I firmly remember the day I picked up a basketball. It was round, bouncy, andweird to grip. I do not, however, remember the day I ever thought of quittingthe sport. Because, to me, it wasn’t just a ball, it was a way of living. Passionis the ever-burning fire that drives us to be better.Passion sure does get you started. But passion is unreliable. It’s there whenyou make a shot, win a game. But it begins to fade when you miss 5 in a row, when your legs are heavy, knees weak, palms are sweaty. No one notices theeffort you put in. What separates players isn’t how much they love the game,it’s what they do with it. Are you willing to put in the effort to becomegreater than you were? To use the passion you have, to be the version ofyourself you sought to be when you first picked up the ball? Ambition is saidto be endless. A void, you can never fill. Discipline? It’s limited, weak, useless… Unless you realize. Discipline is what fills the void. Disciplinedrives passion and passion drives discipline. It’s a perfect symbiosis. Then there’s something quieter… awareness. Understanding where you areweak, where your team breaks down, and what the game is asking you in thatexact moment. Passion makes you loud. Discipline makes you consistent.Awareness makes you dangerous. If you wish to build something, whether ateam, a system, or just your own game, don’t rely on passion to carry it. Buildsystems that survive bad days, a foundation that is invulnerable underpressure. A mindset that doesn’t require motivation to function. Because atthe end, every player faces the same question: Who are you when the feelingis gone? If passion keeps you steady, what are you without it?The answer is where the real sport begins.Wisdom CornerADHRIT NARANG | XI C

When Andy Warhol met Muhammad Ali in the late 1970s, itwasn’t just an artist encountering a subject—it was one iconrecognizing another. By then, the world unanimously agreedthat even amongst the most famous athletes and sportspeople ofall time, Muhammad Ali still stood a league above. Themeeting of these two titans in their respective fields felt almostinevitable, like two streams destined to cross paths. Painted in1978 and part of Warhol’s Athletes series, the portrait payshomage to the legendary boxer, not by attempting to revealsomeCanvas Chronicleworld had already embraced.Warhol began with a Polaroid photograph taken during their session, transformingAli into an image before translating him into paint. This step was crucial to hisprocess, because, by flattening Ali into a photograph, he aligned him with the verylanguage of mass media, the same language through which his legend had been built. The image was then transferred to canvas using Warhol’s characteristic silkscreentechnique, allowing for both precision and distortion. Blurry lines, smudged ink, andcolours that bleed out of their boundaries and into one-another work together tocreate a perfectly maintained balance between intentional and accidental. What makes the work resonate is the convergence of their legendary reputations. Ali,who had spent his career crafting his own myth through charisma, defiance, andperformance, meets Warhol, an artist obsessed with the mechanics of fame andrepetition. Neither diminishes the other. Instead, the portrait becomes a collaborationof sorts, Ali offering his image, and Warhol refining it into something permanent. In the end, the portrait is less about likeness and more about translation: how a manbecomes an image, and how that image becomes history.hidden facet of the icon but by emboldening what theADITYA PRATAP SINGH | XI

Poetry and Worth - A - VisitIn his classic poem “Vitai Lampada” (Latin for \"The Torchof Life\"), Henry Newbolt explores a sentiment that wasdeeply ingrained in the Victorian era, the idea that thecharacter built on the sports field is the same character thatcarries a person through the darkest trials of life. It’s astirring, rhythmic piece that connects the \"breathless hush\"of a cricket match to the \"dust and smoke\" of a battlefield. The poem is structured in three distinct movements. It openson a tense cricket pitch where a young player faces immensepressure, ten runs to win, one wicket left. The second stanzashifts abruptly to a chaotic desert battle where a regiment isfalling apart. Finally, the third stanza acts as a bridge, explaining that the lessons learned at school aren't just forgraduation day; they are a \"torch\" passed from onegeneration to the next. The heartbeat of this poem is its famous refrain: “Play up!play up! and play the game!” Newbolt isn't just talking aboutfollowing the rules of a sport. He’s using cricket as ametaphor for a moral code. A few key themes stand out:1.The Unselfish Motive: The player isn't striving for a\"ribboned coat\" (medals) or \"season’s fame\" (personalglory). He does it for the team and the \"captain’s handon his shoulder.\"2. Stoicism Under Pressure: By placing the cricket matchand the battle side-by-side, Newbolt suggests that themental toughness required to win a game is the samegrit needed to survive a crisis.-Henry NewboltThe Olympic Games site in Greece presents ahistorical location that showcases athletic traditionsand cultural heritage. Movie and Book ReviewTo begin with,“Chak De! India” is the perfect choice fora sports-themed review, not just because of the game itportrays, but because of how beautifully it portraysemotional and social structures. It feels like the kind offilm you can rewatch on a quiet Sunday with your family, yet still experience every emotion as intensely as the firsttime. At its core, the film explores the obstacles faced by thecoach, Kabir Khan, whose love and passion for hockeynever faded, even after being misjudged and rejectedbecause of his identity. What makes this story trulyspectacular is not just his fall, but his decision to riseagain. Despite losing everything, he chooses to return tothe same path, holding onto a quiet but unshakable hope. That kind of passion, the kind that survives humiliation, loss, and isolation, is what defines the soul of the film. Atthe same time, the players reflect another layer ofcomplexity. They come from different regions, backgrounds, and beliefs, and at the start, as expected, clash with one another. Their journey is messy, filled withego clashes, arguments, and moments of division. Butslowly, something shifts. They begin to let go of theirdifferences, choosing the game over their pride. The film reflects that true faith, for all those people, doesn’t lie in labels or identities, but in the sport theylove. Hockey becomes more than just a game; it becomesa space where they find unity, purpose, and belonging.”Chak De! India” goes beyond passion. It shows thatsometimes, passion is not just about love for something, itis about choosing it again and again, even when the worldtries to tear you apart from it.with the theme of the book. The wise selection of sportspersons and the excellent wayof presenting their details in a storytelling manner makethis book a treat to read. The author did deep researchabout every sportsman/woman he has written about. Hehas shared information not only about the sports journey, rewards, accolades, and controversies, but has alsothrown light on the childhood, family background, growing up years, education, previous jobs before gettinginto sports, and other challenges in the lives of thesportspersons described. You would read about almost allsports, ranging from Cricket to Hockey, Tennis toBadminton, Chess to Gymnastics, Football to Boxing, and so on. Thiswas an entertaining book for me as I discovered so manyunknown facts about my favorite players who had made itto the author's list. To name a few - Lionel Messi,Cristiano Ronaldo, Shoaib Akhtar, Vishwanathan Anand, and of course, the master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar. The author is a feminist and this is quite evident from hischoice of players, as he has included many women, too.The pride of our nation, Dipa Karmakar, Mary Kom, PVSindhu and Saina Nehwal have all made it to this bookand it was an absolute delight to read about theirinspiring journey. As the name indicates, thisbook is about 26 legendarysportspersons from varioussports who showcased theiramazing talent and wonmillions of hearts. The authorhas carefully pickedwonderful personalities acrossall sports, age groups andgenerations and has sharedsome really interestinginformation about each one ofthem. Startup QuestSports and fitness are an important part of everyone’s lives, especially athleteswho depend on their health to play well and earn money. Tracking not just stepsbut also sleep, heart rate, stress, and recovery becomes not just a side project butessential. To help with this, Will Ahmed, a Harvard graduate, founded thecompany WHOOP in 2012.WHOOP is not an ordinary fitness band company that makes smartwatches. Butrather, deep monitoring devices that are meant to be worn on the wrists. Theselling point of the watch is that it is not for casual users but rather for seriousathletes.WHOOP bands do not contain a screen to display time or notification but ratherhave many sensors that track various body functions such as heart rate, stresslevels, sleep patterns, recovery, and daily strain. All this data is then sent to theapp by the watch. This data is not only available for viewing but also used by anAI trainer to give personalized recommendations to help you train and get intobetter shape.Their business model is interesting as, instead of providing one with a smartwatch for a prize and a free app, the company instead sells you a subscription tothe app and the watch is often included in the prize of the subscription. This hasled to better and more revenue generation than other smart watch companies likeBOAT or Fast Track. Some positives of the company are that the insights are deep and not just datathrown at you; it has genuinely helped to improve sleep and recovery, and it isvery comfortable to wear 24x7. Some downsides include a high subscription priceand the fact that it is overkill for casual users.ARYAV SAREEN | XII B
