Five ways to freshen your sealed
building's air
You are usually told to open the windows to get rid of stagnant, stuffy air. It is simply not possible
in Canada because of so many sealed buildings! This contributes to the problem, unfortunately.
Buildings with sealed air tend to have problems with ventilation, air flow, and air quality, all of
which cause stuffy air.
Are there any things you can do to improve the quality of air in your home or workplace to make
it fresher and more pleasant? Yes! Read on to find out how.
There are five HVAC solutions to minimize stuffy air when it
is impossible to open a window
1. Install make-up air units
Stuffy air can result from inadequate ventilation in your space. Make-up air units are one
solution. How does make up air work? Essentially, a makeup air unit conditions outside air to the
set indoor temperature before it is dispersed into your space.
When a commercial space, or even a residential kitchen, has powerful exhaust systems, make up
air units can be especially useful. Air is brought into the space by make-up air to replace air that
has been removed by the exhaust system.
Their purpose is to maintain a balanced ventilation environment that dispenses with stuffy air,
doors, and nuisances caused by unbalanced air pressures (like doors slamming or drafts).
2. Problems with air distribution should be fixed
If you have renovated your space at some point, have you updated the HVAC system as well? Or
have the patterns of occupancy and usage changed?
It's possible that a few design changes could benefit your HVAC distribution system.
The current configuration and use of your space may not be optimal for your duct runs. If the air
is stagnant, stuffy, or poorly controlled, the environment could be uncomfortable. Getting rid of
stuffy air, improving ventilation, and enhancing comfort can all be achieved with HVAC experts
rerouting the air supply/return ducts (and registers).
3. Purify the air and eliminate contaminants
Do you notice an unpleasant door in your space as well as stuffy air? Your health might actually
be affected if you suffer from this problem.
Doors can indicate the presence of dangerous contaminants in the air. A mild-infested HVAC duct
or VOCs from cleaning chemicals or building materials could be the cause.
For mild problems, you will need to have the ducts cleaned and the mild remedied. When it comes
to removing VOCs or other contaminants from the air, AIR PURIFIERS can be of great assistance.
Covid-19 can also be prevented from spreading in your space with their help.
4. Make sure humidity is addressed
In humid conditions, the air can feel stuffy and sticky if there is too much humidity.
A sealed building might seem to be sealed against humidity. Even old buildings that do not have
windows may not be very airtight anymore. Because of this, humidity seeps in through all the
cracks and crevices. As well as spas, fitness centres, and commercial kitchens, certain indoor
environments add extra humidity to the air. If you do not know how to get rid of it, it can be
difficult.
You should start by ensuring your air conditioning system is sized appropriately. When your unit
is extremely powerful, it may not run long enough to remove humidity. The VRF technology is
better for controlling humidity if you're replacing your air conditioner. Your HVAC humidity can
be better controlled if you add a dehumidifier to the system if you live in an extremely humid
environment.
5. Make sure your HVAC system is maintained regularly
The proper flow of air within your HVAC system is crucial to preventing stuffy air, as well as to
ensuring that the equipment is operating efficiently and effectively. Filters that are clogged, dirty
coils, problems with the fan, and obstructions in the system can all affect air flow.
Air flow problems can be prevented by getting your cooling and heating equipment serviced
regularly (at least once a year). In terms of banishing stuffy air, this is the best possible solution...
It's inexpensive and helps you breathe easier.
