DAY 1
The student expedition visit to Johor was
implemented starting on Tuesday, 7
December 2021 until Friday 10 December
2021. On the first day, students were asked
to gather in front of the Dewan Platinum of
Politeknik Merlimau, Melaka at 6.45 am for a
briefing from the tour leader while waiting for
the bus.
R&H CAFE SATAY MAHARANI
Leave for the first destination, Muar for breakfast at R&H Cafe Satay Maharani, where there
are a variety of foods for breakfast such as boiled noodles, vermicelli soup, satay, and etc.
GALERI DARURAT BUKIT KEPONG
After eating, leave for Galeri Darurat Bukit Kepong. In Bukit Kepong
there were several policemen who received a visit and led by
Sergeant Encik Mat Rasul, he explained a lot about the history of the
Bukit Kepong museum and took a look around the Bukit Kepong
museum area. Various treasures related to the Bukit Kepong
Tragedy are kept at the museum as it was the actual location of the
attack by about 200 communist terrorists attacking the police station
which killed 25 members of the security forces including their family
members. Indirectly, the Galeri Darurat Bukit Kepong is a
complement to the tourism sector in this district which is famous for
its unique natural treasures, heritage, culture and history.
He not only told about the history but also showed various
artifacts such as firearms, clothes, the condition of the
members' barracks and some vehicles that were once used
by the security forces, but also presented with various
information interactively. In addition, several other exhibits
such as armored cars, police patrol boats and several other
artifacts once used by the security forces are also
displayed in the basement of the gallery. The gallery
provides several other facilities such as toilets, prayer
rooms, special lifts for the elderly and people with
disabilities (OKU). The Galeri Darurat is open free to
visitors from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Next, leave for Batu Pahat for lunch at Restaurant
Bariani Power before checking in at Barokah Sri
Village Parit Raja, Batu Pahat.
BARONGAN AND KUDA KEPANG
In the evening, dinner at kuda kepang,
served nasi ambeng cooked by Kuda
Kepang Jaran Wibowo because nasi
ambeng is one of the traditional
Javanese food. The show started with
barongan and kuda kepang. All the
cultural elements in the art of barongan
and kuda kepang are actively mobilized
by the Javanese community in Batu
Pahat, especially in Parit Bingan. Groups
in Batu Pahat use traditional musical
instruments commonly called gamelan
such as gongs, drums and so on.
DAY 2
NECTAR PINEAPPLE PARK
On the second day, we check out from chalet after take a breakfast and
continued our expedition to Nictar Pineapple Park, Pekan Nanas, Johor.
Nictar Pineapple park is one of the interesting places in Johor, is an eco-
themed farm that aims to educate the public about nature and agriculture.
The place also provides educational tours to their pineapple farms
located in the same area. This pineapple farm has a pineapple garden of
10 acres which makes it an ideal place for those who want to see
different types of pineapples.
We were all greeted by Mr. Haleem, the owner of the Nictar Pineapple
Farm. Mr Haleem told about the pineapple farm and showed some
pineapple crops in his farm and there are 12 breeds of pineapple found in
Malaysia and 12 breeds of pineapple have been registered by the
agriculture department. All registered pineapples have their own IC.
There are several breeds of pineapple, there are Moris Pineapple, N36
Pineapple, Sarawak Pineapple, Elephant Moris Pineapple, Josa Pine
Pineapple, Yankie Pineapple, MD2 Pineapple and Maspine Pineapple.
Mr. Haleem gave some pineapple seeds to taste and gave pineapple
juice for free. In addition to pineapple juice, his farm also sells pineapple
jam, pineapple acid and others. Nictar Pineapple Park entre fee is RM10
per person.
PONTIAN BUGIS MUSEUM
We’re going to the Bugis Museum, Pontian is to pay homage to the Bugis people and
there are a history and customs of the Bugis people. This Bugis Museum is supported by
the Johor Heritage Foundation and the first Bugis Museum in Malaysia. We will be able to
see many black and white pictures that tell the story of the Bugis in Johor. This museum
was originally founded in 1982 as Bugis Heritage. On July 26, 1994, declared this museum
as the first Bugis museum in Malaysia. There are more than 2,000 artifacts on display,
from weapons, clothing, old ceilings, jewelry, pictures. In addition there are a collection of
Bugis art and culture, also a history and information related to the Bugis community. The
museum is open daily from 10:00 am until 6:00 p.m. The admission is free.
BURASAK ABAH RESTAURANT
Just finished from the bugis museum we moved to new
johor and stopped for lunch at Burasak Abah. Located at
No 14 Jalan Utama 2 taman utama 81500 Pekan Nanas
Pontian johor is open daily at 11.00 am - 6.00 pm.
Burasak Abah Restaurant founded by Encik Ismail and
his wife has been operating for the past 10 years starting
from a small business only and the recipes used are
their own hereditary recipes. The Burasak and Lepat Loi
business gave a warm welcome to Mr. Ismail and his
wife and, they have decided to open a restaurant to
attract customers from abroad and the state to taste the
original Bugis Burasak and Lepat Loi.
Burasak or Buras is the name of the traditional food of
the Bugis community. This food is served on festive
days such as Hari Raya and also for feasts. Burasak is
the main dish eaten with side dishes such as red cooked
chicken, rendang, chicken cooked with dates, boiled
parang fish, spicy sour parang fish. Burasak is made
from rice soaked in coconut milk and wrapped with
banana leaves. The burasak is shaped into a rectangle
and tied with string to be steamed for 7 to 8 hours.
Burasak can last up to 2 to 3. In addition to burasak
there are other dishes such as lepat loi or lepat lueh is
also a traditional food that is often served with burasak.
Lepat Loi is made from glutinous rice that is boiled or
steamed and mixed with coconut milk. This traditional
food comes from Sulawesi and is often the choice of the
Bugis as a supply for fishermen Lepat loi is triangular in
shape and cooked for 8 hours wrapped in banana
leaves.
MASJID SULTAN ABU BAKAR
After lunch in Pontian we resumed the expedition assignment to the Sultan
Abu Bakar Mosque.Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque is a Johor state mosque
located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This mosque was built under the direction of
Sultan Abu Bakar between 1892 to 1900s. The architecture of this mosque is
very unique because it combines Malay and Western elements in one
building. The state mosque is located on a hill, facing the Straits of Johor. This
mosque has 4 towers that resemble the White Mosque, Terengganu and West
Asian countries, especially in Egypt. The tower has 2 round levels above and
a square below and is domed. This mosque can accommodate about 3000
Muslims praying and this mosque is also a landmark that proves that Malay
engineers are also able to build large buildings that are beautiful and strong as
in Europe and Arabia at the end of the 19th century. features of Islamic
architecture. This mosque is caged with 4 porches each with a dome tower.
But unfortunately on the day we wanted to visit we could only take pictures
outside the mosque because in the covid season the sultan of johor ordered
not to allow anyone to enter the sultan abu bakar mosque.
SKYSCAPE KOMTAR JOHOR BAHRU
Skyscape Komtar Johor Bahru located in
Jland johor bahru city center and admission
is RM 20.60 per person including shoe cover.
Open daily at 9.30 am-11.00 pm and opened
in 2019. In addition, this skyscape is the first
place in Johor that has Skyscape which is
the glass department and the height of this
building is 149 meters and can see the
atmosphere of Johor Bahru and Singapore.
Our skyscape is divided into groups because
due to the covid season, we cannot allow
large numbers to enter. Apart from that, in
the skyscape, there are several activities that
we can do, namely VR games, mini cinemas,
LED tunnels and Interactive Floor Games.
JB NIGHT MARKET
We started moving to the JB Night Bazaar for doing a
task expedition and dinner. The bazaar known as Bazar
JB, is located at Jalan Segget, Bandar Johor Bahru,
80000 Johor Bahru, Johor and is open daily from 6.00
am -12.00 pm. The bazaar was opened in 2009 and it
is estimated that there are about 600 stalls in, sells
antiques such as black plates, old telephones and old
radios that attract foreign tourists to this bazaar. The
bazaar is. Only open at night, this flea market sells
everything you can think of, from handicrafts to local
produce and food. In addition, this bazaar is a unique
place because it sells old goods and located in the
center of town and surrounded by old shops. We also
had an interview with the entrepreneur asking for
perfume for our assignment provided by the lecturer
before the trip started.
DAY 3
DAY 3 (DECEMBER 9, 2021)
On the third day, we had breakfast at the hotel and check out
for the next destination, to Kota Tinggi. In tracing the road to
Kota Tinggi, we enjoyed a beautiful journey with views of the
city of Johor Bahru before arriving in Kota Tinggi which is full of
green trees. The next destination, Teluk Sengat Crocodile Farm
takes an hour to arrived, located in a remote area from the main
road, at Jalan Sembilang, Teluk Sengat, Kota Tinggi.
TELUK SENGAT CROCODILE FARM
Teluk Sengat Crocodile Farm established in the year of
1979, a place of a shield of crocodiles more than 1000,
various types and sizes of crocodiles. There are
crocodiles that are passed down from one generation to
another, so these old crocodiles are also very old and
toothless. This place is clean and does not smell bad
even though the number of crocodiles is very large.
Tourist can buy a chicken to see crocodiles eats, which is
3 chickens RM20.
Besides, there are satay, eggs, and crocodile soup, just
for non-Muslims only. This place is a bit secluded from
the main road and need to enter a small road to get to this
place. The normal price for entrance is RM 8 for adult and
RM 4 for children. Visitors have the a chance to take
pictures with crocodiles for RM 5.
After an hour visiting Teluk Sengat Crocodile Farm, we
take a lunch together at Masakan Panas Ibrahim, only
takes 15 minutes to arrive. We enjoyed our lunch whose
various menus were available in the store. Then we
continued our journey to the Kota Tinggi Museum, which is
the most places to visit after arrived at Kota Tinggi, Johor.
After arrival at the Museum Kota
Tinggi, we were presented with a
beautiful view of the museum built
with more modern construction
than ever before. There, stored
artifacts from the time of the
Sultanate of Johor, tells the history
of Kota Tinggi, Johor. We learned
a little about the history and
culture of Kota Tinggi, including
old items worn by the ancients and
items during the war.
After visiting Museum Kota Tinggi, we proceeded
to the next hotel to stay, at the Mayres Hotel.
Then, we rested for a while before continuing our
journey to the next destination, Kota Tinggi Firefly
Park. We arrived at the park at 7pm to get ready
for the boat ride, which was our trip at 7:30 pm.
We were briefed before boarding the boat and
advised not to open the camera flash to take
pictures so that the fireflies would not run away.
Then, we boarded a boat and sailed the Johor
river in total darkness to see fireflies perched on
mangrove trees and Berembang trees.
KOTA TINGGI FIREFLY PARK
It belongs to the Chinese and has a restaurant by the jetty. Every night, there are
3 trips, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tourists share a big boat ride through the river to
see the fireflies on the banks of the river in the mangrove trees especially in the
Berembang trees. From the jetty area, the boat will enter the river area in total
darkness. Trip to see fireflies around 30-45 minutes. The normal ticket price is
RM 20 for adult, RM 12 for children.
DAY 4
DAY 4 (DECEMBER 10, 2021)
We started our last day at Kota Tinggi by
having breakfast at hotel and check out,
going to the next destination, Johor
Premium Outlet (JPO) at Kulai, Johor
Bahru. It took almost 1 hour to arrived at
JPO. JPO is a premium outlet many
various shop that we can spend time with
shopping, eating and sightseeing. We
spent 3 hours there with our friends and
than, we continued our journey to going
back to Melaka, exactly at 2 p.m.
JOHOR PREMIUM OUTLET (JPO)
The mall first opened in December 2011, as a joint
venture between Genting Plantations and Simon
Property Group,in Kulai, Johor. The opening that
Johor mall targets visitors from Malaysia and
neighboring Singapore with luxury brands such as
Bally, Salvatore Ferragamo, Furla, Ermenegildo
Zegna and Coach. The official opening attended by
Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan
Iskandar. The location JPO is near Senai Airport,
located 3 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur and one
hour drive from downtown Singapore. In Kulai, it is
at the intersection of the North-South Expressway
and the Second Link Expressway. The location is
on 18.2 ha of land, with a built up 379,000 sq ft.
On the way back, many of us sleeping
like a log because we were so tired and
the rest were happily karaoke. Despite of
feeling exhausted, we felt overjoyed in
this trip because we’re finally managed to
complete this assignment and also
exposed to so many new things that we
could learn.
