The story portrays the triumph of the common man amid the buffoonery of big business. When a restless, creative, and ambitious window washer named J. Pierrepont Finch happens upon a book entitled ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’, he decides to begin his rise up the corporate ladder. With the book’s instructions and a dose of his own cleverness, Finch starts by landing a job in the mailroom at the World Wide Wicket Company, before quickly gaining promotions and outsmarting his scheming, sniveling rival, Frump – who also happens to be the boss’s nephew– until finally reaching the very top of the organization.
How To Succeed… (cont’d)From the very beginning, Finch has had the love and support of Rosemary, a marriage-minded secretary who recognizes Finch’s potential, and finds his innocent demeanour endearing. But in his single-minded pursuit of the top job, Finch is in danger of discounting Rosemary’s love. In a moment of crisis, Finch’s manual to success can no longer help him: he must rely on his own wits, and ultimately, his heart, to save the day. The standout score by Frank Loesser features such classics as the surreal and funny “Coffee Break”, the rousing “Brotherhood of Man”, and the melodious tongue-in-cheek ballad, “I Believe In You”, while the immensely clever book by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock, and Willie Gilbert, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1962 for Best Drama.ROLES -J.B. ON THE BOARDS - DECEMBER 2025ST. PETERSBURG CITY THEATRE - A 1940’s RADIO CHRISTMAS CAROL The long-awaited sequel to the popular The 1940's Radio Hour. It's Christmas Eve, 1943, and the Feddington Players are now broadcasting from a hole-in-the-wall studio in Newark, NJ, and set to present their contemporary \"take\" on Dickens's A Christmas Carol. Whether it's the noisy plumbing, missed cues, electrical blackouts, or the over-the-top theatrics of veteran actor, but radio novice, William St. Claire, this radio show is an entertaining excursion into the mayhem and madness of a live radio show. St. Claire's escalating foibles and acting missteps propel the show to a simultaneously comedic and heart-wrenching dramatic climax: St. Claire has an on-air breakdown, and begins to connect his own life with that of the classic Dickens tale. In order to \"save the show,\" the company improvises an ending to Charles Dickens' classic as a film noir mystery, featuring a hardboiled detective, a femme fatale, and an absurd rescue of Tiny Tim (and the Lindbergh baby) from the clutches of a Hitler-esque villain named Rudolf! SHOW REVIEW THEATRE: EIGHT O’CLOCK THEATREPLAY/MUSICAL: CabaretCome to the Cabaret, they said. You’ll have a good time, they said. And, oh boy, were they SO right! Eight O’Clock Theatre and Domenic Bisesti have shared a terrific, new version of Cabaret. Starting right out with the super Graham Mastro, perfectly cast as The Emcee. Bursting with energy, with seemingly more than two feet twirling in the air, he brings us in, oh so willingly to the Kit Kat Club. And it’s there that we also meet the luscious and lascivious Kit Kat Girls and Kit Kat Boys. Every one of these scantily costumed individuals is the BOMB! Domenic Bisesti’s genius choreography is presented flawlessly. The group is performing technically offstage on the audience floor, extending the Club into that area, along with VIP tables for select audience members. Sweet! We then meet Sally Bowles, superbly played by Justine Grace. Taking over the stage, singing “Don’t Tell Mama” and “Mein Herr”, Ms. Grace is amazingly amazing. Hot to trot, she finds the eyes of an American - Clifford Bradshaw, winningly portrayed by the handsome Steven Fox. Mr. Fox is a natural actor - one that delivers his lines effortlessly and relaxed. A choice well made and welcomed by any audience, especially this one. Travis Moore, presenting Ernst Ludwig, shows us the evil side of this Era - the Nazi devil, buried inside a most kind and gentle character, totally taking in a gullible Mr. Bradshaw. Appearing as the Customs Official is Rick Coates, speaking fluent German. We commend Mr. Coates for taking on this added attribute. Awesome job!Susan Leirer (Fraulein Schneider) and Michael Gregory(Herr Schultz) were a comfortable couple that were not meant to be. Ms. Leirer performed “So What” and “What Would You Do?” with excellence. Mr. Gregory, in his EOT debut, has a voluminous voice, as shown in the song “Married”. Beautiful!
Cabaret review (cont’d)Coral Furtado brought us Fraulein Kost. Ms. Furtado, with her magnificent voice, performed in “Married”. Looking very much the “gal of the time” with her coifed blonde hair and slim, black dress. DJ Schuett, portraying Max, blew me away with is largerthan-life voice. Whoa!TJ Venieris, as the Gorilla, was hysterical and well animated. The marvelous Kit Kat Girls - Bianca Rotondo, Kayley Jewel, Sara Pierce, Aniesa Hanson, Olivia Lucci, Kendall Kay, Emily Molinaro, Mackenzie Morris, and Annie E. Miller.Kit Kat Boys were fabulously played by DJ Schuett, Arbie Ignacio, Ken Leist, and TJ Venieris. The marvelous Ensemble included Jackie Deppner, Bri Middleton, Sara Pierce, Declan Fletcher, Jana Townsend, and Kristine Weinstein. SHOW REVIEW THEATRE: GULFPORT COMMUNITY PLAYERS PLAY/MUSICAL: Sex, Please - We’re SixtyA perfect Saturday evening. Relaxing in our seats at Gulfport Community Players’ production of Sex Please, We’re Sixty. A night of belly laughs totally ignited from a stellar cast. Beginning with Greg Garbers, playing “Bud, the Stud”! It’s a B&B setting and Bud is the resident lothario. He checks the upcoming guest list regularly, scoping out possible female candidates for his “evening activities”. It was difficult to believe that this was Mr. Garbers’ very first foray on the stage! He was so natural and comedic, it seemed as if he had been acting forever! So good! The B&B is run by Mrs. Stancliffe, played winningly by Nona Edelson. Ms. Edelson is simply wonderful in her role and we enjoyed her immensely. Mrs. Stancliffe’s wannabe paramour is portrayed by Mike Rutigliano as Henry, and what a performance he gave! What a loving character. He tries daily to propose to Mrs. Stancliffe, for 20 years, to no avail. Always with flowers in hand, he is rejected. Mr. Rutigliano is just perfect and we frowned each time he was turned down. Awwww…Annie Murren presents Hillary, another new guest at the B&B. It turns out that she is a friend of Henry’s. Ms. Murren does an outstanding job. She is down-to-earth - until she takes one of the magic “pills” that Henry manufactures. And then the gloves are off! She begins to experience menopausal symptoms and is not happy about it. Great job, Annie!Victoria is played by Stacie Steinke. We’ve seen Ms. Steinke in several other productions, and she is one of our favorites. Extremely comfortable in her role, she is super experienced, as her character displays. Good performance!
Sex, Please - We’re Sixty review (cont’d)Lastly, but certainly not least, is Charmaine Beauregard, superbly portrayed by Elaine Bovinette. Ms. Bovinette is purely a Southern gal, complete with her drawl and sex-driven ways. She is there to solely meet back up with Bud for another rendezvous. To us, she is just solely there for laughter, and she delivers the goods. Her “granny always says” quotes are hilarious. Directing this hit is Olga Kruse, and what a stupendous job she has done. Of course, we have come to know that if Ms. Kruse is at the helm of a show, you know you are in for a prizewinner. You’ve done it once again, Olga!Thank you all for a fun-filled evening!End ofArticleCast from left to right -Stacie Steinke, Greg Garbers, Nona Edelson, Mike Rutigliano, Annie Murren, and Elaine Bovinette
SHOW REVIEW THEATRE: BEYOND THE WINGS THEATERPLAY/MUSICAL: Game of TiarasGame of Tiaras by Don Zolidis is a mash-up of “Game of Thrones” and Disney Prince and Princesses. With puns and quips galore, this one is made for chuckles and outloud laughter. Brimming with young ones, some maybe on stage for the first time, all of them were quite good and knew exactly when to enter and what to do while on stage. Especially cute and funny was Phoenix Keplinger playing Blood Packet Girl. She appeared whenever someone died, and most frequently when there was “blood”. She shook her two red cheerleader pom-poms over and around the victim. What a hoot! We looked forward to her every entrance. Great job, Phoenix! The three Disney-esque princesses were Teresa Richardson as Cinderella; Lauren Cunningham as Ellie the Snow Queen; and Roxanne Kadiam as Snow White. They were the daughters of The King (Victor Carr). Mr. Carr was hysterical! With each of his lines, he got more and more sarcastic. Loved him! And the three princesses mentioned were terrific! Each one of them nailed their character. And Ms. Kadiam sang a great song, performing a takeoff of one of Disney’s songs beautifully. Very unexpected and welcomed. Other Disney-like females were marvelous. They were Cara Keane as Belle and a return performance by Ms. Kadiam, but this time as the Little Mermaid. And, of course, there needs to be princes. Appearing as Prince Charming was Josh Paul. Handsome, but a little quirky when preoccupied with stuffed rabbits. Also a prince was Levi Sloan as the French Prince. Both were “priceless princes”! Mr. Sloan had a very believable French accent. Nice expansion for your character! And kudos to also playing the Executioner.
Game of Tiaras review (cont’d)The two narrators for this cute play were Brittany Leclair as Narrator 1 and Candice Kruse as Narrator 2. Beautiful interpretations of keeping the narration of the story on track. Sarcastic asides added much to both of their roles. Sidney Kadiam portrayed Smeagol. Kind of a servant/horse to The King. He caused overflowing laughter whenever he unpocketed his Duyuglars to resemble the sound of clopping hooves on buggy trips with The King. Your character interpretation was spot on!Marley Hinves, Hazel Ball, Veronica Coogan, Farrah Ball, Cora Julian, Angelo Medina, Jerry Seay, Mike Lufriu, and Doreen Sloan, played a myriad of characters such as Dwarves, Guards, Crowd Members, French Soldiers, an Animated Snowman, peasants, secondary princesses, a Herald, the talking candle man, talking teapot lady, Barney and his wife. I have to give Savannah Novakextra credit for appearing in most of the play behind a White Walker mask. That had to be a little bit uncomfortable throughout, but we saw you and appreciated you and your role! Thank for a great time! You all were WONDERFUL!End ofArticle
