AUDITIONS THEATRE: FRANCiS WILSON PLAYHOUSE

AUDITION DATES & LOCATION: December 4 & 5 at 7PM
at the Francis Wilson Playhouse

PLAY/MUSICAL: GYPSY

PRODUCTION DATES: February 16 to March 5, 2023
DIRECTOR: Jason Fortner

Characters:
Momma Rose: The ultimate stage mother. Lives her life
vicariously through her two daughters, whom she's put
into show business. She is loud, brash, pushy and single-
minded, but at times can be doting and charming. She is
holding down demons of her own that she is afraid to
face. Her voice is the ultimate powerful Broadway belt.

Herbie: agent for Rose’s children and Rose’s boyfriend
and a possible husband number 4. He has a heart of gold
but also has the power to defend the people he loves with
strength.

Dainty June: Baby June as a young teenager. The older
she gets, the less she enjoys being her mother's trained
monkey.

Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee: Baby Louise as a teenager, who
grows up to be Gypsy Rose Lee. Still pushed aside by
Madam Rose in favor of June, until she herself becomes
her mother’s new pet project. Must be able to portray
both the awkward teen and a sophisticated woman we
know now as Gypsy Rose Lee.

Dressy Tessie Tura: a stripper just past her prime. A
burlesque dancer that shares her dressing room with
Louise. She was once a ballerina and still has some of
the moves. A coarse broad who’s been around the block.
Very funny.

Mazeppa: another stripper just past her prime. Big
Broadway belt. A burlesque dancer who’s tough and
physically intimidating.

PLAY/MUSICAL: GYPSY (cont’d)

Electra: another stripper just past her prime. Big Broadway
voice. Quieter than her counterparts, but her costume is wired
with lights, allowing her to “shine” without working up a sweat.
Ditzy and sweet.

Miss Cratchitt: the production assistant for the Grantzinger
theater, NYC. A comedic role.

Young Women’s Ensemble: singers/dancers who act as both the
backup dancers for Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee and perform in the
large burlesque numbers in the second act. Some comic skills
very helpful. (Marjorie May, Dolores, Thelma, Gail)

Agnes: one of the women’s dancing chorus, strong comedic
skills

Tulsa: boy-next-door type. Strives to break out of the troupe
with an act of his own. Sings and dances "All I Need Is the Girl."
Extremely strong dancer in all styles of show dance including
tap. Good singer, charming, very athletic and handsome young
man

Kringelin: the put-upon manager of a hotel

Mr. Goldstone: Booking agent for the Orpheum Theater Circuit.
Chaplin-like skills a must never speaks.

Cigar: rather aggressive owner of a burlesque theatre, Classic
character part.

Pastey: Cigar’s stage manager

Uncle Jocko: Alcoholic emcee of a weekly kiddie talent show.

Weber: Surly theatre manager in Los Angeles

Pop: Gruff, unsupportive father of Rose.

Young Men’s Ensemble: Six young men sing and dance backup
for teenage June, plus join in the number "Have an Eggroll,
Mr. Goldstone."

PLAY/MUSICAL: THE LARAMIE PROJECT

INFO:
Please plan to spend an hour or so with us open call
auditions, which affords actors multiple opportunities to
read. No appointment is necessary. Auditions will
consist of readings from the script and are open to
anyone in grade 8 through adult.
This is a tuition-based educational program. Based on
the demands of the script, the rehearsal process of The
Laramie Project will be an acting intensive, focusing
heavily on character development and portrayal. Various
acting techniques will be taught and employed to help
the actors find the different characters each ensemble
member will portray. Rehearsals will be approximately
three times weekly on evenings and weekends.
Tuition Rates:
Grades 8-12: $350
College: $250
Adult: $150
Financial aid is available based on need.

advice! [email protected]

THE STORY:
In October 1998, a twenty-one-year-old student at the
University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten,
and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside
Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, bruised, and battered
body was not discovered until the next day, and he died
several days later in an area hospital.

PLAY/MUSICAL: THE LARAMIIE PROJECT (cont’d)

His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this
assault because he was gay. Moisés Kaufman and fellow
members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to
Laramie over the course of a year and a half, in the aftermath of
the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of
killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with
the people of the town. Some people interviewed were directly
connected to the case, while others were citizens of Laramie, and
the breadth of the reactions to the crime is fascinating. Kaufman
and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply
moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own
experiences in Laramie. THE LARAMIE PROJECT is a
breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity
can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.
Notes about casting: The ages noted next to the character should
be used to imagine who that character is, but we are not
necessarily seeking to cast actors that are the same age as the
character. We are seeking to cast actors that can portray those
ages.
The Ghostlight Young Company is committed to cultivating a
diverse and inclusive community: on our stage, through our
creative and technical teams, and in our house. The audition
notices include brief descriptions of the characters as they are
depicted in the script. Actors of all genders, races, and/or ethnic
backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to audition for any
role that they are interested in portraying.
The Laramie Project includes more than 60 characters portrayed
by an ensemble of 8 or more actors. Familiarity with the script
and content is strongly encouraged.
Contact [email protected] for a perusal script.

CAST LIST A Christmas Carol Cast List (cont’d)

A highly inventive adaptation of the classic Dickens
story, pared down to its essential elements. In this
version, we encounter a company of traveling players
about to enact the Dickens story. As the on-stage trunk
of supplies opens, actors and clowns spill out and roll
on. The gruff stage manager and prop boy check the
show’s props, which are shabby and third rate, but the
troupe improvises by creating a magical world of make-
believe. The acting troupe soon discovers that the
actors playing Scrooge and Tiny Tim have abandoned
the tour; but the show must go on, and the prop boy
eagerly volunteers for the part of Tim while the cynical
stage manager must be forcibly drafted to play the old
miser. The troupe proceeds to make their way through
the tale, creating fog, snow, fire and ghosts through
mime, imagination, and wonderful visual effects. The rag
tag players (including the stage manager and prop boy)
quickly become the characters of the story, and we are
pulled into the life of Ebenezer Scrooge. The Christmas
Spirits work their magic and warm the heart of Scrooge,
as well as the old stage manager.

Goldman, playwright, bottom row, 2nd from right, between
Narrator Luis Rivera and local EMS cameo, said, “It was a
massive task, but the results are fantastic!” A Staged Reading
was hosted on October 15th, the last day of Hispanic Heritage
Month, to an enthusiastic crowd. Check out pictures on

SHOW REVIEW THEATRE: DUNEDIN SHOWCASE THEATRE
PLAY/MUSICAL: DEATH BY CHOCOLATE
I knew chocolate wasn’t good for you if you ate too much of
it, but ONE PIECE? Yeesh! Poor Dyslexia played by Susan
Dearden. Constantly called every name other than the
correct one. Such as Dyptheria, and so forth. Susan shows
the frustration as each time her name is misspoken. Jer-
maine Foster as Ralph Deadwood portrayed his very seedy
character to a “T” - self-centered, egotistical, miserly, loves
his muscled body and takes every chance to model it. Chef
Edith Chiles is played by Marina Spears. Could she be the
one poisoning people in the resort? Seems like the perfect
match… The secretive butler, Alfred Mellox, played by Bruce
Taylor, is also one to watch out for. Bruce plays him with
anger and stiffness which tends to make you thing “he just
HAS to be the one”. Now we meet Lady Riverdale, owner of
the resort, and convincingly played by Barbara Gasper.
Making her debut at DST, Barbara is a welcome cast member
as she is completely at ease in her role. Floating with ease
between English and New “Yawk” accents, she is one to
watch in this play and certainly in more to come on stage.
Jeanine MacLean plays Margret Daniels, the detective. She
fends off romantic come-ons from Jim Green, while working
undercover. The part of Nurse Anne is Julia Roberts, who
just wants everyone to know “she didn’t do it”! Dick
Simmering, the aerobics instructor, lends a bit of comedic
blend with his panic mode exercise routines and he is played
by a frantic Jeff Holstein. Candice Kruse is Sweet Pea
Meadowbrook, who does not speak, but constantly has food
in her mouth. Great job, Candice! It’s harder than it sounds.
Next we have Jim Green playing Ed Parlour. Ed is staying at
the resort trying to work on his play entitled “Death By
Chocolate” - he stumbles upon the news of the murders.
And finally we have John Stone, PUNderfully played by
Graham Muir, with his great Scottish accent! From the
moment he takes the stage, he sets himself as a wise-
cracking soul surrounded by the wackiness that is the
Meadowbrook Health Resort. At one point, Ed Parlour says
to John Stone “You’ve got a lot of gall, Stone.” You could
almost see each of them trying NOT to laugh!
Thanks Mike Cote! And thank you to DST for their 50/50
proceeds going to the Red Cross for hurricane relief.

SHOW REVIEW THEATRE: FRANCIS WILSON PLAYHOUSE
PLAY/MUSICAL: THE DROWSY CHAPERONE
THE DROWSY CHAPERONE at Francis Wilson Playhouse
was the one to been seen. If you missed this I’m truly sorry.
Right from the start, in the darkness, we hear a man’s voice.
He is our guide through the voices, dances, songs, and
comedy for the next two hours. We were in for a special treat.
Dan Kelley is our powerhouse escort. Personable, comedic,
persuasive, anecdotal, he pulls all of us into his world of this
show which he just adores. He cherishes every single word
of every single song. Even the ones he hates. You find
yourself unable to take your eyes away from him, even when
there’s other action on the stage! You’re watching his
reaction of the action! Got that? He is a wonderment to
observe. But wait - there’s oh so much more…
Alex Lodge and Kayley Jewel play the young romantics who
are to be married. They are a perfect match. They of the
beautiful voices and perfect choreography, they are just
made for each other and their roles. Peter Barlow plays their
Best Man splendidly. The title character, The Chaperone, is
terrifically portrayed by the wonderful Lisa Reimer. She acts
and sings effortlessly and oozes the abundant sarcasm we
all love. Add in Derek Jordan, playing Al-dol-pho, and we’ve
almost got the perfect cast. Derek is hysterical! When he
takes a step back and questions “Whaaat??”, everyone just
laughs uncontrollably. Mrs. Tottendale and Underling (Janet
Ando & Kirby A. Volz), make a terrific comedy duo. Their
spitz scene is side-splitting. Mr. Feidzieg (Dave Davis) is
great as the groom with the “Cold Feets”. Nicole Lodge is
quite the ditzy blonde. Loved her! Played right on! Shianne
Haily and Paulina Gary were Gangsters #1 & #2. What
craziness?! They were a barrel of laughs! Couldn't have cast
any better than this. And then there’s Trix the Aviator, Emily
Szymanski. Great addition to any cast. Only wished we could
have heard more of Emily’s great voice – maybe another
show. Natalie Ness, TJ Howsare, Michelle Morocco, and Tai
Lyttle round out the show as the Ensemble – loved seeing
your talented faces with supporting voices and
choreography. Costumes were to die for by Karen Taylor.
We thank Musical Director Emi Stefanov and Stage Manager
Emily Syzmanski. And of course, Jason Fortner, thanks for
your cool cameo and for another smash hit!

SHOW REVIEW THEATRE: ST. PETERSBURG CITY THEATRE
PLAY/MUSICAL: THE ADDAMS FAMILY - MUSICAL

Snap, snap. Time for THE ADDAMS FAMILY - MUSICAL at St.
Petersburg City Theatre. Perfectly directed by Christine White,
Music by Dawne Euhanks, and Stage Managed by Kari
Kennedy, it was the “just right” show for this time of the year!
Jeffery Lukas appears as Gomez and you just know the cast will
follow right along. He leads them on, leader of the undead.
“I would live for her. I would die for her. Either way, what
bliss.” Ahhhh… he had her at die. And the “her” is, of course,
Morticia. Portrayed devilishly by Caitlein Hayne Jammo, she is
as kooky as he is charming. Watching both of them dance
together was exciting, especially in the enticing tango. Cara
Mia! Enter Wednesday, creepily depicted by Arden Ruby. And
she is in LOVE! But that’s not good and therein lies the plot and
the problem. Ms. Ruby is terrific as Wednesday - she tortures
her brother (because he wants her to). Ryan Butler is Pugsley,
Wednesday’s brother. He has the BEST scream ever! He
admirably displays this while his sister zaps him in the family’s
cleverly-constructed electric chair. Kudos. But back to
Wednesday - she pines for her love and wants to marry him!
Him being Lucas, characterized by Joe Hauser. With an
amazing voice, Mr. Hauser gives a great performance wavering
back and forth between self-assuredness and fear. Lucas’
father, Mal, is presented to us by David Gallagher. David has
been treading the boards at several local theatres lately. So
enjoyable to see him in action. Another great job. Lucas’
mother, Alice, is deliciously brought to us by Rei Capote. What
a stellar performance! We loved it. Grandma is portrayed by
the one-and-only Carmilina Alford. Her outbursts here and
there are hysterical and so disjointed that you just have to
laugh! Carmilina’s timing is spot on! Lurch, played by Jeff
Morris, gave his obligatory “grunt” here and there to perfection.
Fester Addams is played exuberantly by Chris Cordero. I don’t
think I’ve seen as much energy as is displayed in a character in
recent theatre viewing. He was simply an Energizer Bunny!
What a character he created - and kept with throughout the
entire performance. Fester was quirky and odd and imaginative
and endearing and, well, LOVABLE! Great job! And silently
played so well was Cousin Itt by Hadley Cote. Good going!
Thanks to the Ancestors - Allison Garrett, Amanda “Fox”
Gomer, Cadance Hughes, Gabriella DeAngelo, Kate Cordes,
Leyla-Jade Curbelo, Suzanne Alexander, DJ Schuett, and
Brianna Hayes. Great theatre by a stellar cast and crew!

SHOW REVIEW THEATRE: PROJECT FREE RISING STARS
PLAY/MUSICAL: ROCK OF AGES
To say this show was fabulous is an understatement.
Because this show ROCKS!!! Wow, it was just so GOOD!
I was floored by how much talent was displayed.
Right from the very start when Angela took the stage as
Lonnie, singing “Just Like Paradise” she grabbed hold of
everyone. What a great job! She acts, she sings, and
she’s beautiful! She was joined by Justice, played by
Lauren and Dennis played by Dominique and they
continued singing “Nothin But A Good Time”.
The two sweethearts of the plot were Drew Boley,
portrayed by Steven and Sherrie Christian played by
Kellie. What a perfect pair. Steven is an actor to contend
with - he can sing so well and act even better. His humor
is right on and his timing is perfect. Kellie is a charmer
and smiles from ear to ear. She’s a real sweetheart and
her talent is beyond compare. We loved her!
The music in the show was just what you want to hear -
from the 80’s and oh-so singable. These young adults
bring so much energy and sang every word with wonderful
enthusiasm. I just have to acknowledge them - Angela,
Steven, Kellie, Dominique, Lauren, Stephan, Christina,
Andrew, Tim, Scott, Tina, Stephen, Nadya, Robert,
Kathryn, Max, Matthew, Trinity, Nicole, Kathryn, Josh,
Asani, Nadya, Marina, Mark, Nick, Denice, Patricia, Alice,
Amy, Linda, Lynn, Megan, Melissa, Michelle, Molly,
Nichole, Rachel, Renee, Sheryl, Stephen, and Tyler.
APPLAUSE!!!!!!!!!
And a big thanks to Director Corinne Broskette. She took
on this huge undertaking with patience, understanding,
talent, and love. And it shows. You produced a simply ter-
rific thing of beauty. Also thanks to Asst. Director Alicia
Merel, Producer Sharon Vanderlinde, Music Director
Audrey Short, Choreographer Tabatha Conza, Set
Designer Vince Casciato, and all of the crew involved in
this production. I usually don’t list all of these people, but
this particular time is special and unique. It’s a passion of
love and a perfection to view. Bravo!

SHOW REVIEW THEATRE: WEST COAST PLAYERS
PLAY/MUSICAL: I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES
West Coast Players always brings it. They did not fail.
Neil Simon always brings it. He certainly did not fail.
I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES was the highlight of my day.
Oh heck, of my week. This cast was flawless. They just
never stopped being - well, good. Good casting, Mr.
Bisesti. Lest I forget, the set was so cool. Designed by
Domenic Bisesti, much of it was “suspended” from above
which worked well. It was there but “not there”.
All of the cast are newcomers. Not just to West Coast
Players, but new to Tampa Bay Area community theatre.
Not for much longer. We first see Judy Wilson portraying
Steffy. Steffy is characterized as filled with confidence,
knowing what she wants and usually getting it. She’s not
afraid to stand her ground. Ms. Wilson plays her character
to the hilt and we instantly like her. She’s a go-getter and
in 1973, she has her feet firmly planted in a great job with
Columbia Pictures. Not bad for a woman in the 70’s. She
answers the door and we meet Libby who has just arrived
in LA. We meet Erin Nelson as Libby. She “lights” up the
stage just doesn’t cut it. Ms. Nelson was BRILLIANT.
With her mannerisms and exuberance you wanted to hug
her immediately. She brought a confident manner but, at
the same time, a naivete to Libby. She so much wants to
be a movie star - she would take a TV star - but movies is
what she really wants, with Jane Fonda as her ideal. Libby
explains that she has come to meet her Dad - of whom she
has never met.
Minutes later, in he comes. Herb Tucker, played insanely
great by Mike Arce, arrives and discovers Libby and what
her visit is all about. There are comedic moments for sure,
but not the slapstick usually paired with Neil Simon. Not
your usual guffaws, but more of a smile or a chuckle kind
of laugh. You appreciate the humor is there, but it doesn’t
slap you in the face as much. This genre of Mr. Simon can
almost be filed under that dramedy title, with emphasis on
the drama. Heavy at times - particularly in the second act
phone scene with Mike Arce. Wipe-away tears are called
for and a precious moment gives satisfaction to the
audience. You’re a lucky man, Mike, to have such material
to work with. And so are we. You aced it. Thank you.

SHOW REVIEW THEATRE: EIGHT O’CLOCK THEATRE
PLAY/MUSICAL: THE WEDDING SINGER

“All you’ll need is me, and all I’ll need is you”
Kind of sums up EOT’s latest upbeat 80’s-theme production of
THE WEDDING SINGER. With Andrew Roehm in the title role
(Robbie Hart), he’s got the voice and boy-next-door charm to
entertain at every wedding in the NYC area. He’s got it all -
except the right girl. And then in walks Julia, played sweetly by
Katie Voorhees. She literally locks eyes with him and the rest is
history. Of course, love doesn’t go smoothly and there are
other complications, and tons of songs in between, much to our
enjoyment.
Robbie’s bandmates are Sammy, played by Steven Fox and
George, portrayed by Domenic Bisesti. You couldn’t ask for two
better mates than these two. Loyal to the end, all they want is
what’s best for the band and they try to stay out of all this “love”
nonsense. Craig Ruska plays Glen Guglia, Julia’s rich and
powerful fiancé. A guy you love to hate. Plays him spot on.
Lisa Malloy portrays Holly, Julia’s friend. Lisa gives us a
powerhouse performance! Along with a few costume “strips”,
she wows us with a belting voice and knock-out choreography
as she performs in “Saturday Night in the City”.
Playing Rosie the Grandma’s role is Gay Lora Grooms. Played
to the hilt with little zingers here and there. Terrific tenderisms
where needed and the audience loved her. And a Grandma RAP
to boot! Chelsie Smith played Robbie’s ex, Linda. Sex drooled
out of every pore. Every bump and grind meant to sizzle and
she delivered.
This Ensemble was right on, Dude! Aidan Anderson, Paige
Crockett, Sarah Dunn, Coral Furtado, Arbie Igacio, Shelly
Johnson, Mona Lim, Andrew Luc, Matthew Morris, David
O’Brien, Chrisheena Qasem, Sarah Roehm, Biance Rotondo,
Chelsie Smith, and Michael Sporck - all TOP NOTCH. How you
all managed to execute those stupendous dance moves from
choreographer Amy Fee, I’ll never know. Bravo!
Applause, Applause to all Tech Crew! This was a tough one, I’m
sure. You deserve every accolade you receive. Thanks to
Musical Director Gabe Flores for outstanding vocal
arrangement. And many, many, many thanks to Director James
Grenelle. You have outdone yourself. And it shows.
