A RESISTOR IS AN ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE USED TO RESIST THE FLOW OF CURRENT. IT IS MANUFACTURED WITH DIFFERENT RESISTANCE VALUES, RANGING FROM LOW TO HIGH. RESISTORS HAVE THE PROPERTY OF OPPOSING THE FLOW OF CURRENT. THERE ARE VARIOUS TYPES OF RESISTORS AVAILABLE, WITH DIFFERENCES IN THE MATERIALS USED FOR MANUFACTURING, SHAPE, PERFORMANCE, AND POWER HANDLING CAPABILITIES. TO USE A RESISTOR, IT IS NECESSARY TO STUDY AND UNDERSTAND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF EACH TYPE, INCLUDING THE FORMAT AND STRUCTURE, UNITS USED TO INDICATE RESISTANCE VALUES, TOLERANCE LEVELS, AND ERRORS THAT MAY OCCUR.
A RESISTOR IS MADE OF A GLASS TUBE OR A CERAMIC TILE COATED WITH A THIN METAL FILM. IT IS FURTHER MODIFIED BY BURNING OFF SOME OF THE METAL WITH A LASER TO ACHIEVE THE CORRECT RESISTANCE VALUE. RESISTORS CAN BE MADE OF CARBON OR WIRE. TYPICALLY, BOTH ENDS ARE EXTENDED WITH A COVER CAP AND WIRE LEADS, AND THEN THE RESISTOR IS PAINTED WITH COLORED BANDS THAT INDICATE THE RESISTANCE VALUE AND ACCURACY.
