The Office of Advancement is proud to oversee a growing number of named endowment funds that have been established to provide financial assistance to students who wish to attend Bishop Moore Catholic. Each year a defined portion of the fund is awarded while the principal investment is held “in perpetuity” so that the vision of the donors will continue to make a difference at BMC. These funds have been established by alumni, parents, & friends of our school. OUR ENDOWMENTS BMC as of 6/30/23 Dawn Michelle Aberwald Endowment Fund Dawn, Class of ‘82, graduated Valedictorian of her class. Gifts from this endowment will be granted in the following manner: 50% is awarded to the Valedictorian of BMC to cover ancillary expenses (books, room, board) and 50% to assist a current student from St. Andrews Catholic School in financial need. Fund Balance: $49,634 Bishop Moore Endowment and Charitable Trust The Endowment and Charitable Trust was established for the following purposes: capital improvements, faculty and staff salaries, faculty and staff professional development, and student financial aid. Fund Balance: $3,842,793 The Gary Burkey Student-Athlete Endowment This fund provides financial support for student-athletes who cannot afford ancillary expenses required to participate in their sport. Interest from this endowment will be used to cover costs associated with in-season expenses which are a requirement of team member. Fund Balance: $26,935 Guardian Angel Endowment This fund provides financial assistance to BMC student’s families who are in crisis due to an unexpected emergency. It’s purpose is to lighten a family’s financial burden when facing serious illness, loss of employment, or other factors that affect their ability to pay school-related expenses such as tuition, technology, books, uniforms, lunch accounts, sports teams, and other essentials. Fund Balance: $384,767 Ann Hefferin Memorial Endowment Two memorial scholarships are awarded in loving memory of Ann Marie Hefferin, Class of ’11. Ann died suddenly in her freshman year of college at UCF. An annual scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to a college-bound graduate of BMC. Fund Balance: $37,318 Peter and Catherine McCaffrey Endowment Fund This fund was established in memory of Peter and Catherine McCaffrey, parents of Anne. Joe and Anne Schultz wanted to establish a fund that would provide financial assistance for an incoming freshman student from St. James Cathedral School. Fund Balance: $63,178 St. Michael the Archangel Endowment This fund was established out of the idea that our BMC community could benefit from the presence of a religious sister, full-time on campus. With this endowment, students are able to witness, on a daily basis, a religious sister who has said yes to God’s call for her life. Our goal for this fund is to reach $750,000, which would yield an investment to sustain the salary for a religious sister in perpetuity. Fund Balance: $315,464 Shaughnessy-Mantle Family Endowment Proceeds from this endowment will be used to help an already-enrolled Catholic student at BMC whose family suffers a crisis creating financial difficulty (such as the death of a parent, loss of job, or serious illness) and the student might otherwise be forced to leave BMC in the absence of financial assistance. Fund Balance: $62,027 The Hall Family Tuition Assistance Fund This semi-resticted fund exists to provide selected BMC students with tuition assistance needed to attend and receive a Bishop Moore Catholic Education. Fund Balance: $229,192 Kelly Reen Memorial Endowment Kelly Erin Reen was a graduate of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School and a Sophomore at BMC at the time of her passing (’10). A memorial scholarship is awarded in her loving memory. A $1,000 award is granted each year to a graduating senior from BMC. Fund Balance: $27,454 Michael Scheve Memorial Endowment Michael Lawrence Sheve, Class of ’98, played on the ’94-’97 basketball and ’94-’98 golf teams. This endowment helps with financial assistance for students in need at Bishop Moore Catholic and Morning Star Catholic School. Fund Balance: $187,689 Joe Skinner Endowment Fund Named in memory of Joseph Skinner, Class of ‘16. This endowment awards a scholarship to the male and female recipient of the Bishop Moore Catholic Senior Religion Award. Fund Balance: $23,564 Perreault Family Endowment Fund This fund was established to assist those called to serve in Catholic vocations. Proceeds will provide tuition assistance and supplemental living expenses while on their religious formation. Fund Balance: $37,318 Robert J. Peterson Memorial Endowment Fund The fund was established in 2019 in honor of Robert J. Peterson by his family and friends. Proceeds will benefit students who demonstrate financial need or who have experienced hardship due to the loss of a parent. Fund Balance: $53,285 The Dave Powers Memorial Endowment Fund A group of current and former directors and officers of United Legacy Bank created the fund to ensure Dave Power’s legacy lives on at his beloved alma mater (class of 1974). Interest from the endowment will directly benefit the Black & Gold Brigade for the purchasing of new musical instruments and band uniforms. Fund Balance: $54,285 Andrew P. Caneza Foundation Endowment Fund Andrew P. Caneza was a loving father and grandfather who was a strong supporter of Catholic education, his family began this endowment in his memory to offer financial assistance to a student in need. Fund Balance: $25,103 Joanne C. Brown Memorial Endowment Fund Joann was a tireless and selfless volunteer at BMC and completed our first alumni directory. So many family and friends came together to create this endowment so more young people would have the gift of a Catholic education and a deeper relationship with God. It provides tuition assistance for a practicing Catholic student to remain at BMC. Fund Balance: $81,311 Maria Boudet & de la Roza Family Endowment Señora Maria Boudet taught Spanish at BMC for 25 years, was Chairperson of the Language Department, and the Dean of Students. Beloved by students, faculty, and staff, she helped initiate various Spanish courses, the Spanish club, and the Spanish Honor Society. This fund was established by her loving family to honor and continue her legacy of faith and quality teaching. The endowment will provide funding for technology enhancements in the Language Lab as well as additional devices and infrastructure as needed. Fund Balance: $94,525
