Bishop Moore Catholic.

Over the years something great has been built at Bishop Moore. We will
continue this legacy that includes a foundation in faith, exemplary education, and
strength that we have inherited. No matter what adversity is put in front of us, we
will continue to strive for excellence, we will stay strong in our faith, and we will

ASHLEY BEAUREGARD ‘20

For many years, track coach Carolista Ware saw that the FHSAA had opportunities for adaptive athletes to compete
in various track events. BMC had never had an adaptive athlete or a student in a wheelchair. The Administration
wanted to change that and converted the campus to accommodate to students in wheelchairs.
Enter students like Ashley Beauregard ’20 who was born with spina bifida and is wheelchair bound.

Following the lead that every child should not be restricted from finding success at BMC,
Coach Ware reached out to Ashley her freshman year and invited her to join the track team.
“Basically, I wanted Ashley to be a part of something and knew, based on the school's
commitment and what the FHSAA had to offer, we could make it happen” says Ware.

Ashley was tentative, but receptive to the idea and soon became BMC’s first ever adaptive
athlete, winning multiple state championships in 200 and 800 meter competitions.
Coach Ware says that Ashley’s parents deserve a lot of the credit for Ashley and the
coaching team’s success.“ They taught the coaching staff and myself what types of
workouts she needed. We tried to make sure if our other athletes were working on
starts, Ashley was doing the same.” Coach Ware teaches all of us what it means
to make people feel like they are a part of a team. “Inclusion means to me,
that all participate to their ability in a typical setting” Coach Ware said.

The track team members always made sure to include Ashley and “she learned
that she too should worry and care for her teammates as a whole” said Ware.
I watched Ashley compete to the best of her ability every time she raced,
many times unopposed, that did not matter to her. She really got after it all the
time” said Athletic Director Mike Malatesta.

Ashley’s response, “It makes me very proud. I feel like I have
actually accomplished something. It feels like a legacy, basically.”

CLASSH O N OFO R I N G T2H E020

Our 2020 senior class

will forever be linked with the pandemic
of the Corona Virus. Valedictorian Aaron
Baeird shared in his speech at graduation
that “Our character has grown and has
been made by the trials and tribulations
of high school.” Certainly this truth was
felt deeply by this class who were not
afforded the rites of passage and final
celebrations like prom, senior picnic, or
spending the last few months planning
for the future with their friends at BMC.

That is why our faculty and staff were determined to give this class an
in-person graduation that would celebrate their hard work and achievements
of the past four years. Once in-person gatherings were permitted, a team
of devoted staff persons sprang into action to put together a safe and
social distant event for the 325 graduates and their immediate families.
The event was livestreamed so that family members could watch from
home. A keepsake video, special gift bags for each graduate, and BMC
custom coolers for each family were a special touch that added to the
Pomp and Circumstance of the day!

After so much of the end-of-the-year taking place virtually, families were thrilled
to have this “live” celebration. Parent Kevin Barry said “You have taken a
difficult time and turned it into something beautiful. We are very grateful
for how you shaped our children.” Similar sentiments were shared by Leslie
Rosario-Lebron who thanked BMC for “making my wish come true! I got
to see my son walk!” Ed Hamann, parent of 2020 graduate, kept it real by
saying “As hot as it was on that field today, it was worth it.”

Bishop Moore Catholic is proud of the resiliency and adaptability of this
Class of 2020. We expect great things from this group of young people
who have embraced sacrifice and are better for it. Liam Sy, BMC
Salutatorian, wise beyond his years shared in his Commencement
speech “By embracing uncertainty we can discover new interests and
experiencing discomfort we can grow as individuals.”

Follow Me...

Every month, BMC parents and friends get together for breakfast, fellowship,
and faith formation. In this relaxed environment at Dubsdread Taproom, we share a great meal, listen to

an inspiring speaker, and catch up with one another on our own lives. Because schedules are tight, we open at 7:45 am
for coffee, serve breakfast at 8am and always end promptly at 9am. In an effort to respect CDC guidelines,
the location of Family of Faith events is subject to change. Please keep an eye on your emails for current
information, including virtual links or location details. If you have any questions, contact Monica Cowart:
[email protected]

Our theme for this year comes from Matthew's Gospel (4:18-22) as he calls some of the disciples...
Come Follow Me. Below you can find the dates and topics for each Family of Faith event. We journey in faith
together, and we'd like to invite you to join us for any of these events.
