Below are the questions for the Living and Learning Communities for Fall 2014. Please prepare your
answers in a word document (or format listed in specific questions below) so that you can copy and
paste them into your application when it becomes available next week.

Chinese Language House
1. Please list any pertinent information about your competence in Chinese (indicate if you are a
native speaker, how much time you have spent in China, how many years you have studied
Chinese at Dartmouth or elsewhere, etc.), and will you speak Chinese at the Chinese Language
House at all times?
2. List the reasons you wish to live in the CLH; will you assume a house position, and how will you
help build a community at the house?
3. Do you have any dietary restrictions? If so, please explain.
DEN in Residence
1. Please use the "upload" feature to provide us with a pitch deck addressing the following
questions: Why you? What do you bring? How do you define entrepreneurship and the resulting
entrepreneurial output? How do your academic interests influence your entrepreneurial
outlook? What have you done that is entrepreneurial? The pitch deck can come in any form:
Word document or PDF, 5 slide power point presentation, Link to a video in a word document,
Link to a website in a word document.
2. Residents will experience a two-term innovation cycle to develop the full DEN in Residence.
Describe your interest in developing this community and your current understanding of living
learning communities.

housing application are just about which program you're applying for.
East Wheelock
1. Please list the top two reasons you would like to live in East Wheelock in 140 characters or less.
2. Please describe the ideal East Wheelock community and how you would participate to make it a
reality. (600 words or less)
Foley House
1. Why do you want to live in Foley House? Please include information about what you hope to
gain from the experience and what you will contribute to it.
2. Please share your experience living with a group of individuals and shared responsibilities
(chores and cooking)?
3. How do you approach conflict resolution? Please give examples.
Gender Neutral Program
1. Why are you interested in the gender neutral program floor?
2. What previous experience with exploring gender (academic, personal, and/or community) do
you bring with you to this program?
3. What else, if anything, would make you a strong candidate for the program floor?
Global Village
1. Why do you want to live in the Global Village? What do you hope to gain from this living
learning experience? If there is a particular part of the Global Village that interests you (for
example, a language community, Great Issues Scholars Program, etc.), please be sure to address
why it interests you.
2. The Global Village is inclusive of all life experiences and backgrounds. Please describe what you
bring to the Global Village. Consider your interests, experiences, skills, and/or perspectives. If
you are applying specifically for one of the language communities within the Global Village,
please complete this question in that language, and describe your language proficiency and
experience you have had with the culture. *If you are applying for the Arabic, Chinese or
Japanese communities please indicate that language in the box below and save your answer as a
pdf document and follow the upload instructions in an upcoming step.
3. Describe three ways that you will contribute to the collective academic, cultural, and social
learning experience in the Global Village. For example, what types of activities and
opportunities would you be interested in organizing to enhance the Global Village experience?
Hillel

affinity housing arrangement?

3. In terms of your family or cultural environment where you were raised, what kind of

Inter-faith Program Floor
1. What interests you about the Interfaith Living and Learning Community? What do you plan to
gain from this experience?
2. What background experience have you had with religion or religious traditions (growing up
and/or at Dartmouth)? Please also describe some experiences or encounters with religious
difference or interfaith activity.
3. What unique contributions can you offer to the Interfaith Living and Learning Community?
La Casa
1. Briefly explain why you are interested in living in LA CASA.
2. Describe your background in Spanish and/or Portuguese language(s), and your experience (if
any) with Hispanic and/or Luso-Brazilian cultures.
3. How do you think you would contribute to the academic, cultural, and social learning
environment in La Casa, based on your experience and interests.
Latin Amerian, Latino & Caribbean Studies House
1. How will living in the LALACS House benefit your academic and personal growth?
2. What experiences have you had (research, LSA program, academic travel experiences, etc.) and
courses (Latino Studies, Latin American Studies, English, History, Government, Geography,
Anthropology, etc.) that can create an interdisciplinary learning connection to the Latino
community and Latin American, Latino and Caribbean Studies program in the House?
3. How do you see yourself adding and participating to the academic and social learning
environment in the House based on these experiences?
Max Kade German Center
1. What is your present level of proficiency in German? If you do not speak the language already,
do you plan to study at Dartmouth? What experience, if any, have you had with other aspects
of German culture?
2. Why do you want to live in the Kade Center? Are you willing to participate in at least 50% of the
extracurricular activities held there?
3. What contributions do you feel you will make to community living at the Kade Center?
Native American House
1. In what ways have you been or are you currently involved with the Native American House
(NAH), Native American Studies (NAS), the Native American Program (NAP), or the Native
American Community at Dartmouth?
2. What unique qualities and contributions would you bring to the NAH, and how would they
benefit or compliment the residential program and/or the Native American and greater
Dartmouth Communities?

Shabazz Center for Intellectual Inquiry

Sustainable Living Center
1. What is one experience sustainability related or not that has given you an awareness of your

3. At the SLC we strive to create a place where residents are enthusiastically engaged, excited to
meet new people, and commit time to building a healthy community. How would you define a
healthy community and what do you think it takes to build one?
Triangle House
1. Why are you interested in living in Triangle House? What would you bring to the community?

will you have completed prior to residency in the house?
