DEAR CHILDREN Dear Children
Dear Children
I often wondered how long it would take
to write all my memoirs to you, and I
wonder throughout this writing if I have
left anything out. I’m sure I have, but you just
can’t remember everything. What surprises me,
though. is not that I remembered, but how MUCH
I remembered. This letter has become very
therapeutic for me, and I have enjoyed probing my
mind for minor details that were important to my

life. I hope you have enjoyed reading about me.
This letter has either become a book that didn’t
take very long at all to write, or it has become a
very long letter that seems like it took forever to
complete. In any case, it's about as complete as 1
think it should he. Some chapters are longer than
others, as you saw, and some are just mere basic
information. I hope that you will read these
passages and pages over and over again, when you
are bored, when you are lonely, when you are
alone with your thoughts, or just anytime you have
the urge to read it. I hope, too, that your children
will know about me through this letter, and their
children. and so on and so on. I wish Grandma
and Grandpa had put together something like this
so I could know a little about them, too.
There you are, Dear Children. When I started
writing this to you, Scott, you were 8, ready to turn
9 on March 5, 1987. Katie, you were just 7 last
December 19, 1986.
How old are you now?
