Dear readers of the informant of the University "Kadri Zeka" Gjilan,

By sharing your precious time with our University, you will understand the confidence and
hopes of students, professors, assistants and the UKZ administration to create a new, modern,
quality university that is compatible with the job market.

We are a new university, but this offers us the opportunity to orient our university towards
new goals, with new strategies and methods, so that the UKZ student, with his degree, is
equal to other students in the country,in the region and in the European area.

The university is a great opportunity for society, provided that it cultivates the open mind of
students, cultivates critical thinking and promotes scientific research. Only with this
approach can our students repay the debt to society, the homeland and the world: improving
social welfare, economic development and promoting competition while respecting
competition. Only with this approach can our University play the role of window and
gateway to society: an open window to see more and an open gate to communicate more and
more equally with the world. The word university itself has this meaning.

Our society, like other societies in transition, suffers from the mismatch between the
academic teaching offered by universities and the labor market demands of universities.
We aim to make UKZ compatible with the labor market, given Kosovo resources and global
market demands.
Kosovo will one day be part of the European Union. Upon entering the European market, the
UKZ student is in competition with the European student, both for the job, for scientific
research and for every other academic aspect. The only way to cope with this competition is
to increase the quality of teaching at the University and open up opportunities for research.
Our university sees as a priority issue the cooperation with the stakeholders of academic
education, starting from professional institutions, social groups to civil society. Only on the
basis of regular communication about the demands of society and its possibilities can we
design our study programs.
Our university sees as very important issues the cooperation with other universities, local,
regional and international. Student mobility is very fruitful not only for students but also for
UKZ itself. The communication of traditions, cultures, ideas, research and other academic
tendencies is in the spirit and soul of our University.
Our university sees as prosperous the multicultural structure of our society, as well as the
multiculturalism of the societies around the Republic of Kosovo. Therefore, we consider
important the cooperation with all these social structures and the orientation of study
programs in these directions.
To achieve these goals, UKZ must establish and always have a capable academic staff and an
effective administration. We are open and demanding for every academic person, who can
bring innovation to UKZ, in any academic field and in any academic aspect.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

“Kadri Zeka” University in Gjilan, established by the decision of the Government of the
Republic of Kosovo on March 6, 2013, is one of the new universities in Kosovo to promote
academic and scientific research. UKZ has a special role and responsibility in advancing and
developing the intellectual, scientific, artistic and cultural wealth of:

● Gjilan region ​: (municipalities : Gjilan, Kamenica, Novo Berda, Ranillug, Viti,
Partesh, Kllokot, Ferizaj, Kaçanik, Elez Han, Shtimje)

● Presheva region :​ Municipality of Bujanoc, Presheva and Medvegja.
● Kumanova region ​: (Northern Macedonia): Kumanova, Likova.

Kadri Zeka University offers excellent teaching opportunities and consists of five academic
units with seven Bachelor study programs, and two Master study programs.
The academic teaching process takes place within the study programs based on the
University Statute.

OFFICE FOR ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT AND QUALITY

"Kadri Zeka" University in Gjilan, in order to achieve the main strategic objectives has
managed in 2018 to establish the Office for Academic Development and Quality, which will
be constantly monitoring the quality of teaching and development of the Institution.
The Office for Science, Academic Development and Quality, coordinates the work in support
of academic units for the process of institutional accreditation and program accreditation
including all activities involving these processes and also coordinates the work of the Office
with the UKZ Senate, Council Leaders, Academic Units, Institutes, as well as with councils,
commissions and working groups in the research sector and related issues, etc.

ONLINE LESSONS

As a result of the situation created by the Covid-19 pandemic, Kadri Zeka University has
enabled the development of virtual learning using the SMU, Google Meet, Google Classroom
and Moodle platforms.
For ten weeks, as long as the online lectures lasted, 3600 teaching hours were held, with one
hundred thousand participants, with an average of 1500 daily connections.

Dear students, professors and administration staff,
I congratulate you on the successful passage of this phase of the Covid 19 pandemic.
Public University "Kadri Zeka" completed the online lecture process with extraordinary
success.

For ten weeks, as long as the online lectures lasted, 3600 teaching hours were held, with one
hundred thousand participants, with an average of 1500 daily connections.

Online lectures were initially imposed on us due to the Covid 19 pandemic, but in the end
resulted in a very high quality increase in UKZ and public universities in Kosovo.
We entered this process without prior preparation, without training, however it only took us
a week to organize the online system and start successfully in a field unknown to us.
The result of online learning is beyond all our expectations. The presence of students in the
classrooms has been greater than that in the classrooms. Classes lasted an average of 41
minutes, longer than classroom hours. There are far fewer hours lost than in classroom
teaching. Professors are more carefully prepared for the lesson.
This process shows that UKZ, but also other public universities in Kosovo, have a high
degree of academic and technological preparation, as well as willingness to work. This
proves that public universities have high academic values ​and are the right path for higher
education in Kosovo.

This process is also an indication that we should not give up online learning, despite the ban
on Covid 19 virus, or any other reason. We made a qualitative increase in our higher
education and now we should not go back, but find ways and modes where we can and how
we can use online learning in the future.
I hope that the students will be very well prepared for the June exam deadline and will
successfully complete this academic year.
I would like to thank in the first place the students and the Student Parliament of UKZ, who
engaged with great will in this process.
I thank the academic staff, first of all the deans of the faculties, who did not hesitate and did
not back down from the challenges imposed by the transition from classical to online
teaching and did not miss almost any teaching hours.
I also thank the UKZ administration which stood by the students and academic staff all the
time in this important process.
I am proud of this joint success!
Dear students, academic staff and administration staff,
should not be underestimated the fact that Covid 19 is still present and still hits. I invite you
to be part of the exams by adhering to all the rules of the pandemic period: keep your
distance and do not physically contact each other. Greet with your hand on your heart! Wear

people in the Municipality of Gjilan and other municipalities, as well as students in the
Presevo Valley and Northern Macedonia. It is considered one of the main branches in study
levels; Bachelor and Master that offers study programs with the best contemporary models
based on the experiences and methods of prestigious western universities.

Through the full implementation of the European credit transfer system, it enables the

The Faculty of Economics is selected in business and economics in the country and the
region to do research, learn and create sustainable development solutions.
The study programs at the Faculty of Economics are in line with the programs of the two
member universities of the Bologna Process, namely the University of Ljubljana and the
University of Zagreb. The Faculty of Economics has the following study programs:
- Management / BA, which creates opportunities for students to gain knowledge and skills to
be able to develop the private sector, to explore market needs in the dimensions of an
advanced market economy.
- Banking, Finance and Accounting / BA, which offers contemporary theoretical and

The mission of the Faculty of Computer Science is to provide complete experts in the
field of technology.

The Faculty of Computer Science provides basic and advanced knowledge of technological
and software challenges in the field of computer science as well as their application in the IT
industry and software development for Web design and Economics.

Knowing that engineers in modern times must be able to solve increasingly complex
problems and issues, to design and implement software packages, to design and implement
solutions in computer networks, or to improve and maintain information technologies, those

to be offered in this Bachelor program, will cover techniques which will increase
productivity in software and information technology software development.

The mission of the Faculty of Applied Sciences is applied education, paying attention to
human and civic values, universal values, as well as gaining a broad academic culture in
the way of judging and reacting to the situations of contemporary and dynamic society.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences, with the bachelor program "Educational Mathematics", is a
necessary need, which will fulfill one of the obligations of higher education in Kosovo,
which is to prepare mathematics teachers in a new spirit of educational developments
mathematics defined by ICME, ERME, ATEE etc. In the coming years we will continue with
other application programs, which are based on mathematics and its application in the labor
market, especially in the economy and entrepreneurship of the region and beyond.
The Faculty of Applied Sciences prepares professionals ready for the labor market, and at the
service of the needs of a developed and prosperous society.

"Kadri Zeka" University with the establishment of FSHA and the Educational Mathematics
program will use its capacities and will work with dedication and responsibility to
successfully face the preparation of mathematics teachers as a key subject in pre-university
education.

LIBRARY

UKZ is committed to pursuing knowledge, but also bears the responsibility of providing a
scientific basis for self-reflection in society, contributing greatly towards its positive
development by providing literature in the University library to both academic staff as well
as for students.
The library of the University "Kadri Zeka" has a space of about 500 m2. There are a total of
3 reading rooms, which are used quite a lot for reading.

The library room is suitable for reading and is relatively rich in books, there are a total of
45,100 copies. Most of them are in Albanian and Serbo-Croatian, but there are also in
English and other languages.

STUDENT PARLIAMENT

According to the Statute of the University "Kadri Zeka" the interests of the Students are represented
within the University with the following bodies:

● Student Parliament at University level
The Student Parliament is the highest body of student representation.
The total number of student parliament members is 11.

● Student Council at the level of the Academic Unit
Student councils are the student representation bodies in each academic unit.
The total number of members of each student council is 1% of the number of
total of full-time students enrolled in that academic unit, with a minimum of 5 and
maximum 21 members.

Being one of the distinguished ones of a University is undoubtedly one of the best events that
a student can have for throughout the rise in vocational training and one of the best

faculties.

The student of the Faculty of Law at the University "Kadri Zeka" in Gjilan, Verona Bekteshi, to whom
Rector Bajram Kosumi awarded the diploma "Distinguished Student" on the 6th anniversary of its
establishment, March 2019, says that the diploma says that this diploma increases the motivation to

Verona says that it is precisely these symbolic gestures that increase the motivation and desire to
learn and at the same time says that they influence the creation of goals for achieving success.

"Kadri Zeka" University in international cooperation promotes the exchange of students and

✔ The student of the Faculty of Law, Lizë Rexhepi, received her degree here last year. He has
now earned a full master's degree from the prestigious Ohio Northern University Pettit
College of Law, in the United States.

✔ Student of the Faculty of Economics, Xheneta Vranovci, has continued her master studies at
the University of Freiburg in Switzerland.

✔ Naxhije Rexhepi, student of the Faculty of Economics of UKZ, within Erasmus +, has won a
scholarship and is continuing her master studies at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia.

✔ Let Erleta Halimi UKZ student has received a full scholarship for master studies at the
University of Sheffield

✔ About 15 students of the Faculty of Computer Science of UKZ, have participated in the
workshop for development of innovative modules, within the REBUS project, part of which
is UKZ, which workshop lasted 15 days and was held in Graz, Austria .

✔ As part of the cooperation agreement that the University "Kadri Zeka" has with the
University of Zug in Switzerland, mobility has been realized between students and staff of
these two institutions.

✔ About 20 students from the University of Zug from Switzerland have stayed at UKZ,

✔ Swiss students and our students have learned a lot from the experiences of both

✔ Students and leaders of the UKZ Student Parliament, Adrian Bajrami, Dritor Mehmeti and
Blerine Ajvazi, have represented the Republic of Kosovo at the Peace Summit in the Republic
of South Korea, becoming a member of IPYG (International Peace Youth Group).

ALUMNI

The Alumni Network of the University "Kadri Zeka" focuses on the professional well-being of
students who have completed their studies at the University "Kadri Zeka" and their interconnection.
Through meetings and activities, it helps to transmit ideas, initiatives, innovation, collaborations
between each other which are much needed after the graduation process and especially during the
confrontation with the labor market.
The purpose of this service is to connect all generations of UKZ students, to create ongoing
collaboration and networking between graduates, professors of the respective faculties, the wider
academic community and employers.

Alumni was established as a laboratory for the access of its students (jobseekers) and their academic
formation to the demands of the labor market (employees).
"Kadri Zeka" University has done research on the alumni of the Faculty of Economics, according to
which after completing bachelor studies, over 70% of students have successfully continued master
studies, some others have been employed, while there were those who have opened their own
business. Also according to the research, the study at UKZ has helped them a lot in further
successes.
Doruntinë Hajdari, a student of the Faculty of Education at UKZ, after completing her studies, has
managed to get a job as a teacher in a primary school in the Municipality of Gjilan.

I am honored to present today the speech on behalf of the Faculty of Education, in this special act
where the work and dedication not only of students but also of our professors is sublimated.
Today concludes for you an important academic stage, just like for me two years ago, a stage that
gave me the shape of a professional, now I am a teacher transmitting knowledge to students, I am
also engaged in the Ministry of Education for the program "Teaching Curricula" I completed the
master of Inclusive Education. My colleagues are excelling with the best performance, they are
committed teachers, great lawyers and successful economists, and for that we thank the professors
of our University who formed us as professionals of the future and the Student Parliament for
courage and dignified representation .
The road was not easy but our common goal is to have a university as successful and professional as
possible.

The Conference of Rectors of Public Universities of the Republic of Kosovo was established
in 2016.

● At the Balkan Leadership Conference of the Universal Peace Federation held in
Tirana, of which Kadri Zeka University in Gjilan is a member, Rector Bajram
Kosumi, also the former Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, was awarded the
Peace Medal.

Other personalities from the country and the region also participated in this conference, such
as Alfred Moisiu, President of the Republic of Albania during the years (2002 - 2007),
Stjepan Mesic, President of the Republic of Croatia during the years (2000 - 2010), Rexhep
Meidani , President of the Republic of Albania (1997 - 2002), Fatmir Sejdiu, President of the
Republic of Kosovo during the years (2002 - 2007) and Živko Budimir, President of Bosnia

PRACTICAL ORGANIZATIONS

The Faculty of Law has established a Criminal Law Clinic. For this, the Ambassador of the United
States in Kosovo, Sh. T. Philip S. Kosnett visited this Clinic where he saw closely the provision of legal
aid services by pro-bono lawyers (free of charge) licensed by the Kosovo Bar Association and
students of the Criminal Law Clinic with Real Cases during the activity "Hours for Free Legal Aid
”organized at the University“ Kadri Zeka ”in Gjilan.

"Kadri Zeka" University in Gjilan, respectively the Faculty of Law, with the support of USAID Activity
Justice Values ​and in cooperation with the Kosovo Chamber of Advocates, has established "Legal
Clinics with real cases".

An important step has been taken in relation to the labor market and businesses. The Faculty of
Economics has organized the job fair "Building a partnership!".

UKZ project, created in cooperation with GIZ and MEST, "Primary schools one or more teachers"
extends the implementation of this project to other schools in the municipality of Gjilan and beyond.

The Faculty of Computer Science has organized the DiGiDay 2019 Conference, in cooperation with
the University of Podgorica, the University of Korça "Fan S. Noli", the University of Elabasan
"Aleksander Xhuvani", the University "Mother Teresa", Skopje, the University of Vlora "Ismail
Qemajli" and the University of Mitrovica, "Isa Boletini".

UKZ again this year co-organizer of the cultural event "Meetings of Dom Mikel"

UKZ has established the Debate Club where it has organized debate competitions.
