By GlamourX House MOU PIEJUSH SARKAR INICIATIVE Century Ply Presents GlamourX India 2023: Acid Attack Survivors Shine on the Ramp, Inspiring Change and Empowerment “Century Ply Presents GlamourX India 2023” held on September 02, 2023, at Holiday Inn Kolkata Chinar Park- Darbar, with the support of the Acid Survivors and Women Welfare Foundation and Century Ply. West Bengal finally witnessed an extraordinary walk where acid attack survivors took the ramp and walked in beauty. Century Ply presents GlamourX India, which is the Mou Pijush Sarkar Initiative and was organized by GlamourX House, the first platform in West Bengal that has been able to make this type of walk happen. The event was for a Job Appeal at all corporates for Acid Survivors. The acid attack survivors also shared their ordeals and struggles in life. One of them narrated how she and her uncle were attacked with acid when her family rejected a marriage proposal. She also appealed that the uncontrolled sale of acid be banned so that miscreants could not commit this horrible crime. The walk and talk of the acid attack survivors brought tears to the audience present at the Century Ply Presents GlamourX India final, while their spirit and confidence brought smiles and appreciation to them. MR UDAY KUMAR MR UDAY KUMAR ‘One Leg Uday’ — Mr Uday Kumar is a real example “ Nothing can stop you if you know your goal” GLAMOURX TRUE HERO AWARD 2023 Mr Uday Kumar is a real-life true hero who is featured in the India Book of Records for achieving the remarkable feat of completing 55 marathons with a 91% disability. He is a true motivational figure who completed 55 Marathon Events in various parts of India with one leg. We are proud of Mr Uday Kumar who sets a true fighter example for everyone. GLAMOURX TRUE HERO AWARD - 2023 MA R C H 2024 | IS S UE 1 10 Uday Kumar stands as an example of courage, dedication, and strength as he runs one marathon after another with one natural, and one prosthetic leg. In the past, Uday has participated in several runs and is the 1st amputee from West Bengal with so many successful marathons in this of achievements. Uday was left devastated after losing his left leg to a train accident in October 2015. The pain of losing one leg and the accompanying stress, the responsibility of two small kids and a very supportive wife was all he had to look up to. The Kumar family was traveling back to Kolkata from their hometown in Bihar when this misfortune struck them. Uday slipped and fell from the train into the railway tracks. An unbearable pain took over and Uday knew that this had to be the moment of rising up. Surviving the bitterness in his blood and bones, he made it to the hospital with little help. Awake throughout the agony, Uday felt a numbness in the left side of his body on the next day. His left leg had to be removed. Determination saw a new level has Uday rose up from the doom and pledged to achieve way more than anyone thought possible. As of November 2019, Uday has had a bucket full of achievements and recognition for the sportsmanship spirit he has shone and the goals he has achieved. He has not only inspired people across the country through various engagements but has also been assigned the ambassadors of various past and upcoming marathons of the city.
‘SAXOPHONE SISTERS’ ‘SAXOPHONE SISTERS’ ‘Saxophone Sisters’ — how this duo from Bengal overcame the digital W divide to script a musical journey ith little knowledge about musical notes, Priya and Chumki did face initial hiccups but their grit and determination soon helped them learn a couple of songs. GLAMOURX NARI SHAKTI AWARD 2023 The prolonged pandemic, coupled with the lockdowns, had practically paralysed the Badyakar family of Pashchim Bardhaman district economically, like many others in the country. The male members of the Badyakars, who for at least four generations now have been playing various wind instruments such as the clarinet, trumpet, saxophone and flute in band parties — a colloquial term for musical ensembles who play at weddings and other events — suddenly found themselves out of job after a blanket ban was imposed on gatherings. Seeing the men in distress, Priya and Chumki, the daughters-in-law of Paban Badyakar, approached him and sought to learn how to play the saxophone although the beginning was out of sheer curiosity. “We used to always listen to our husbands and our father-in-law playing them but never got a chance to learn. Initially, we just wanted to try our hands on the instrument since sitting at home the whole day during the lockdowns had soon become boring. But the moment we picked up the first song, an urge set in and we wanted to financially support the family and waited for the lockdown to end,” said Priya, wife of Monoj Badyakar, the elder son of the family. Two saree-clad women playing saxophones in a village is not something one gets to see often and that’s probably one major reason that still keeps women in rural setups from trying out something out of the box.
