Alternative Energy

By: Michelle Candelario

Solar Energy
Alternative Energy are all the things that do not
use fossil fuel. Solar energy was the first
energy source in the world and it makes little or
no pollution. Solar powered photovoltaic
convert the sun's rays into electricity by exciting
electrons in silicon cells using the photons of
light from the sun. We use solar panels to warm
our home and to warm our water, but we also
used them so that the electricity can power our
lights and appliances . They most used solar are
in the southwest desert, some of the countries
that use solar energy are, Germany, spain, italy,
japan, United states and czech republic.

Solar energy used clean and pure energy from the sun,
installing solar panels on your home helps combat
greenhouse gas emissions and reduces our collective
dependence on fossil fuels.
Advantages of using solar energy reduces our carbon
footprint and it helps slow down global warming. It saves us
money and it saves our society billions of dollars. One of the
disadvantages are, the sun doesn't shine 24 hours a day, but
you can still save electricity by buying batteries.

Wind Energy

Wind energy is created by using large wind
turbines usually consisting of propellers. This
energy is used by kinetic energy converting into
mechanical energy. We usually use this for
grinding grain and pumping our water. Wind
powers 1.9 percent of all the energy consumed in
the u.s so yes the united states uses wind energy.
Wind energy is mostly used in China with the
capacity of 114,763 megawatts.

Wind energy is healthy for our environment
because it does not pollute the air, its renewable
and sustainable. Also, Wind energy is free and are
considered low maintenance. Wind energy isnt
always a good thing because their are some
disadvantages in using wind energy like the wind
isn't always blowing, installation is expensive and
it is a threat to wildlife, especially for the
animals that can fly.

Geothermal energy

To create this energy, steam rotates a turbine
that activates the generator. We use this type of
energy to cool our houses in the summer,
farmers also use this source of energy, and alot
of industries use this energy. Geothermal energy
provides heating and cooling to 3 million
americans so yes the us does use this source of
energy. The u.s, kenya, and the philippines. ,

Geothermal can be a good thing because it is
environment friendly , its a renewable and stable
resource and there's no fuel required. It can also
be not such a good thing as the electricity can
be at such high cost, and you could run out of
steam which is needed to activate the power.

Tidal energy

is converted into mechanical energy, when
water is released through large turbines, it
creates electrical power through the
generators. We use it for grain mills and energy
storage. For wave energy, the estimate of usage
is 3,800 terawatt-Hours per year. The us does not
use this source of energy but France, canada,
england and russia have more potential use to
tidal power.

Advantages of tidal energy Disadvantages of Tidal
Energy
● The life of tidal energy is
very long ● The cost of construction
is very high
● Its easy to predict the
rise and falls of the ● There are very few
tides. locations where you can
build one
● Tidal Energy does not
require fuel to run ● The sea can freeze up
and tides may be low or
● Maintenance costs are weak
very low.
