The 4 language centers and partner universities for GAPP are: 1. Language Center Bildungskolleg Weilheim 2.Language Center Sprachzentrale Leipzig 3. Language Center IIK Düsseldorf 4. Language Center IIK Berlin 7 Germany, the land of many opportunities, is renowned for its technological achievements, and its higher education system is considered one of the best in the world. A German university degree is highly respected by employers globally, and programs offered by the Universities of Applied Sciences are particularly known for their practical orientation. For these reasons, the German University Preparatory Program (GAPP) was established at the German-Malaysian Institute in 2001 to prepare and qualify young Malaysians for further studies in engineering at the University of Applied Sciences. This program requires A Levels, TestDAF, and Vorpraktikum qualifications for enrollment. After completing their 22 months of study at GMI, the GAPP 22 (GAPP Intake 2022) students will undergo an intensive 7-month language program in Germany. Since 2010, GMI has established collaborations with four language centers in Germany.

13 MUHAMAD ADAM HAKIM BIN MOHD FAIZ HAKIM Today, as I accept this award, I am grateful for the support I have received. Still, I wonder: is this truly a blessing? Reflecting on my journey, I see how my experiences have shaped me. At GMI, I focused on self-discovery through academics and extracurricular. As challenges grew, I learned that perception matters most. Through trials, I found inner strength and learned valuable lessons. Each challenge offered an opportunity for growth. I question the significance of this award: was I truly deserving? Does it foster complacency or inspire further achievement? Its meaning is up to me. I am thankful for the support of Allah, my family, friends, and mentors. Both allies and adversaries have shaped my journey. I regard this award not as an endpoint, but a step forward. Life's events hold meaning based on our perception. Moving forward, I am committed to facing challenges with courage and gratitude, knowing they foster personal growth.
MUHAMMAD IQHRAAM ZULKEFLI GAPP 2014 14 In 2014, I started studying at GMI. It was a challenge after a long gap since my last exam, the SPM, six months earlier. The first year was tough, and I relied heavily on the library for support. Despite being an average student with no awards I persevered, driven by my goal of working in Germany. In 2016, when I flew to Germany, I expected culture shock, but it didn't deter me from my goal. The real challenge came during my first semester in Zwickau when I struggled with the higher level of German language. Being the only foreigner in my class in Sachsen made it even harder. Identifying my main challenge - the German language - was crucial. Working in factories helped me improve communication, even when I didn't fully understand. Progress happened at different speeds, but as long as the end goal remained clear, I stayed motivated. Thanks to EDAG, I got the opportunity to pursue my goal. Now, I'm working in München as a Test Coordinator, focusing on bodybuilder, steering systems, and crash functionality for MAN Trucks. Recognizing your strengths and weaknesses early on makes facing challenges easier. Setting achievable goals keeps motivation high, even if they're small. Failure is part of life, but it's how you respond that shapes your future.
KAI WONG GAPP 2016 15 As a self-sponsored student of Batch GAPP 16 from Johor, I started a journey that shaped my academic and professional path. This choice led me into Germany's academic world, where GMI helped by providing essential language skills and preparing me for study. The GAPP program within GMI was invaluable, guiding me through the complexities of the German education system, language nuances, and cultural dynamics. After completing a Bachelor's degree in Environmental and Resources Management at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus, I graduated in 2021. I then pursued a Master's degree in Environmental Planning at the Technical University of Berlin. Currently, I'm in the final stages of completing my master thesis, marking the culmination of my academic endeavours. To my fellow juniors beginning their academic journey in Germany, I encourage bravery in speaking German and embracing mistakes. Remember, the learning process is filled with ups and downs, each experience serving as a stepping stone toward success. Germany's academic landscape offers a unique and enriching environment known for its excellence and innovation. During my studies, I gained hands-on experience as a working student. I started in sustainability management at an international plastic company, applying my studies practically. Later, I shifted to sustainability in the automobile industry, focusing on researching carbon emissions for my master's thesis. These experiences were thanks to opportunities at GMI.
DINISH K. KARUNAKARAN GAPP 2016 16 Hi, I am Dinish K Karunakaran, a self-sponsored GAPP16 Student who pursued studies in Germany. Graduating in 2022 with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden, my journey was tough yet fulfilling. Despite initial language challenges, I improved significantly during my six-month language course. With dedication and support, I achieved good results in my TestDaf exam, enabling me to apply to OTH Amberg-Weiden and pursue engineering. Managing finances as a self-sponsored student in Germany was difficult, so I worked part-time alongside my studies. Balancing work and academics taught me discipline and resilience. At OTH Amberg-Weiden, I learned that success as an engineer isn't just about grades but also about leveraging one's strengths. Though I didn't excel academically, I thrived in project work, which contributed to my personal growth. Securing an internship at a wind turbine company in Munich provided invaluable hands-on experience. Designing and testing prototypes allowed me to make a tangible impact on the company's research efforts. Now, as a Developing Engineer at AVL Deutschland GmbH, I am proud to contribute to innovative technology solutions. To aspiring engineers, I offer this advice: persevere and focus on your strengths. Your journey is unique, so avoid comparing yourself to others. Despite challenges, my journey led to a rewarding career. Believe in yourself, embrace your strengths, and success will follow.
SYAFINAH FONG GAPP 2017 17 Assalamualaikum and Hello everyone! I am Syafinah Fong. I pursued my language studies at Technische Hochschule Deggendorf and later enrolled in the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering program at Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz. Despite its small size, I am grateful for the quality education and supportive lecturers at my university, although the limited entertainment options in the small city are a downside. During my fifth semester, I interned at Audi Ingostadt, gaining valuable insights into working in Germany. I also participated in online events, including one on carbon capture, which sparked my interest. In my sixth semester, I collaborated with a professor on a carbon capture project. Despite the small class size, I found it easier to engage with the professor. Surprisingly, he offered me a position as a student assistant after I inquired about it. This opportunity allowed me to learn and complete my diploma thesis on the topic, ultimately leading to my current employment at the German Aerospace Center. My advice to others is to thoroughly research your degree to ensure it aligns with your interests. While studying in Germany may pose challenges, don't be intimidated by others' experiences in different programs or countries. Everyone has their own timeline, so don't feel pressured to rush your journey.
JEREMIAH KEEPAT ANAK WESTMORELAND GAPP 2021 Moin Alle! I am Jeremiah Keepat Anak Westmoreland, also known as Jerry. I am a MARA YTP Scholar from Batch G21, currently completing my first semester in Mechanical Engineering at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. I am set to graduate in 2026, thanks to the YTP Scholarship granted to me in 2021 for my studies in GMI and Germany. Leaving my hometown of Kuching, Sarawak, for GMI marked the beginning of an adventurous journey. Along the way, I had the privilege of serving as the President of GAPP. Despite academic challenges in STEM subjects and learning German, I met MARA's requirements and received the Valedictorian Prize for my batch. Language proficiency was a hurdle I tackled head-on. I immersed myself in German—reading, writing, speaking, and even praying in the language. At IIK Düsseldorf in Germany, I engaged in various activities to practice while socializing with international and German students, leading to success in language exams and admission to university. Since 2021, my journey has been full of valuable learning experiences and new connections, for which I'm grateful to God. I hope you will also find joy in your journey. My advice is to stay genuinely interested in learning, stay curious, and record your insights. Instead of finding joy only in material possessions or success, seek it in the pursuit of knowledge and relationships, as these are gifts from God. Use your time wisely, and you will always find motivation, even on tough days. 18
