Upon completing their 22 months of study at GMI, the GAPP 22(GAPP intake 2022) students will undergo an intensive language programme for 7 months in Germany. GMI has established collaborations with 4 language centers in Germany since 2010. The 4 language centers and partner universities for GAPP are: 1. Language Center Bildungskolleg Weilheim 2.Language Center Sprachzentrale Leipzig 3. Language Center IIK Düsseldorf 4. Language Center IIK Berlin Germany, the land of many opportunities, is renowned for its technological achievements, and its higher education system is considered one of the best in the world. 15 MUHAMAD ADAM HAKIM BIN MOHD FAIZ HAKIM

16 When I flew to Germany in 2016, culture shock was to be expected but that did not impede my goal. The true challenge was during my first semester in Zwickau when I had to listen to the German language at a higher level. This led to so much confusion which caused me to fall behind. Being the only foreigner in the class in Sachsen did not help as well. What helped was recognizing my main challenge: the German language. Once I addressed that by working in factories, communication became smoother and more vibrant, even when I didn't fully comprehend the information given. It's also important to acknowledge that progress may happen at different paces. As long as the end goal remains the same, it's okay. While it's crucial to dream big, being realistic is equally important.. Fortunately, I was given the chance by EDAG to achieve my end goal and for that, I am always thankful for it. I am currently working in München as a Test Coordinator and also conducting some software testing for MAN Trucks. My current focuses are bodybuilder, steering systems, and crash functionality. As a Test Coordinator for bodybuilder, I need to coordinate my team to achieve a goal that was set by the company. This includes ensuring the quality of documentation, test planning, and presenting the current status to the client. For advice, not every tip will work for you. You know better what you can and what you want. Recognising your strengths and weakness early will make accepting challenges easier. Setting a goal will motivate you to keep on going. It does not have to be a big goal. It could be as simple as reading a page. Failing is a part of life. It is what you do after that determines your future. MUHAMMAD IQHRAAM ZULKEFLI GAPP 2014 I started studying at GMi in 2014 and experienced a slight shock to my brain, as the last challenge I faced was the SPM more than half a year earlier. I struggled quite a lot during the first year, and the library became a close friend. Despite being an average student without any awards, I managed to succeed. Having an end goal helped me a lot, motivating me to keep going. In this case, my goal is to work in Germany

17 As a self-sponsored student of Batch GAPP 16, Kai from Johor, I embarked on the journey that would shape my academic and professional trajectory. This decision marked the beginning of a rewarding experience that would lead me to the heart of Germany's academic landscape. GMI played a pivotal role in my educational experience by equipping me with essential language skills and preparing me for effective communication and study in Germany. The GAPP program within GMI proved invaluable in navigating the nuances of the German education system, language intricacies, and cultural dynamics. My educational journey took root at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus, where I pursued a Bachelor's degree in Environmental and Resources Management. Graduating in 2021, I then seized the opportunity to further my knowledge at Technical University of Berlin, pursuing a Master's degree in Environmental Planning. I am currently in the final stages of completing my master thesis, marking the culmination of my academic pursuits. To my fellow juniors embarking on their German academic journey, I encourage you to be brave in speaking German and not be afraid to make mistakes. The learning process is a journey with inevitable ups and downs, each experience serving as a stepping stone towards eventual success. Germany's academic landscape is renowned for its excellence and innovation, providing students with a distinctive and enriching learning environment. During my academic journey, I gained valuable hands-on experience through various roles as a working student. My tenure as a working student in sustainability management at an international plastic company, spanning one and a half years, provided me insights into the practical application of my studies. Subsequently, I delved into the realm of sustainability within the automobile industry, where I am currently immersed in researching and writing my master thesis on carbon emissions in this sector. The opportunities presented during my time at GMI paved the way for these enriching experiences. In reflection, my academic and professional trajectory, supported by GMI and the GAPP program, is a testament to the transformative power of international education. I share my story with the hope that it inspires others to embrace the challenges and opportunities that come with pursuing education in Germany. KAI WONG GAPP 2016

18 Assalamualaikum und Hallo Leute! I´m Syafinah Fong. Luckily, I was able to pursue my language studies at the Technische Hochschule Deggendorf. After receiving my TestDaf result, I enrolled in the Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz for Diploma in Mechanical Engineering program. I am grateful to be able to study at my university, as it is a rather small university with helpful lecturers. The only downside of this university is that it is not big, so there are not many students and the city is small and does not have much entertainment to offer. Thanks to Allah, I got to do my internship at Audi Ingostadt during my fifth semester. During my time there, I learned a lot from my supervisor, not only about my assigned task, but also about working in Germany in general. Furthermore, I was able to participate in a series of online events that evolved around the latest studies/projects. One that particularly caught my attention was carbon capture. Coincidentally, during my 6th semester, I found myself under the tutelage of a professor who is actively engaged in a project centered around carbon capture. Since not many students take this class, it is more convenient to engage in a conversation with him. I once inquired without any expectation of being accepted as a student assistant, and he answered without any hesitation that I should just submit my resume and latest result transcript directly to him by mail. From then on, I learned a lot and also completed my diploma thesis on this topic thanks to this professor. At the end of my study, he even helped me in securing my current employment. Currently pursuing my career as a research assistant at the German Aerospace Center. If I can give you some advice, it would be to do your research regarding the degree thoroughly and meticulously, as Germany has a lot of courses to offer and not only limited to the common one. You do not want to waste your time studying something that does not resonate with your interest. And I know studying in Germany is not easy, so do not feel intimidated by our other friends; who study in local or English-speaking countries, as they are likely to graduate much earlier than we are. Lastly, never let anyone to rush you with their timelines. SYAFINAH FONG GAPP 2017

Moin Alle! I’m Jeremiah Keepat Anak Westmoreland, but known as Jerry among the GMI folks. I am a MARA YTP Scholar from Batch G21, just a year ahead of all of you. Currently, I find myself at the conclusion of my first semester in my Mechanical Engineering degree at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. I have a journey ahead, with my expected graduation in 2026. By God’s grace I was given the YTP Scholarship in 2021 to further my studies in GMI and later on in Germany. From my normal life in Kuching, Sarawak, I embarked on a journey of adventure, leaving my hometown to study at GMI. Along the way, I was blessed with the opportunity to serve GMI as the President of GAPP. The challenges I faced, both academically in understanding STEM subjects and learning German, were met with God's grace, enabling me to meet MARA's requirements and receiving the Valedictorian Prize for my batch. Language proficiency posed a challenge for me. To overcome this, I immersed myself in German daily—reading, writing, speaking, and even praying in German. At the IIK Düsseldorf in Germany, I engaged in various activities to apply the language while socialising with international and German students. It paid off, as I passed language exams and soon found myself at the university. From 2021 until now, my journey has been filled with wonderful learning experiences and meeting new people, and I give thanks to God for it. My hope is that you all will find the same joy in your journey. My advice to you is to take a genuine interest in learning, remain curious, and document your insights. Instead of deriving joy solely from material possessions or success, find joy in the pursuit of knowledge and the relationships you build, as these are gifts from God, as these are gifts from God. Utilise your time effectively, and you will always find motivation to do good, even during challenging days. JEREMIAH KEEPAT ANAK WESTMORELAND GAPP 2021
