Introduction: This adventure is based on an adventure created by Matt
Colville, on his YouTube channel, Matthew Colville (https://
www.youtube.com/channel/UCkVdb9Yr8fc05_VbAVfskCA).
Matt also owns MCDM Productions, which publishes content for
TTRPGs.
This adventure has been adapted by me, Matthew Martin,
for the Hero Kids system. I have no connection to Matt
Colville or MCDM Productions and Matt Colville has not
endorsed this project (though I’d like to think he’d
appreciate my take on it if he saw it).
Synopsis: The heroes are eating dinner at the Tavern
when they learn that Bess, the Blacksmith’s daughter,
has been kidnapped by Goblins. The heroes track the
Goblins to a long forgotten and abandoned tomb of the
Knights of the Delian Order. The heroes battle Goblins and a
Bugbear and free Bess. There is a secret room at the end of the
adventure where they can fight Skeletons and get new rewards (if
they discover it).

On the wall is a mural of the Knights of the Delian Order
battling goblinoids. Written on the mural is a quote which is an
important clue for the secret room later in this adventure.
Read Aloud Text: With the battle over and the Goblins
defeated, you begin to look around to room. You see four
large statues of powerful knights holding their swords.
One of the statues has been moved, revealing a secret
passageway that leads deeper into this building.
In the center of the room is a large bowl. You gather that
in the old days, people would come here to leave coins
and other valuables as an offering to the knights of this
order as they prayed for good fortune.
On the wall you notice a large mural. It’s a painting of the
knights battling goblinoids: goblins, hobgoblins, and
bugbears. Above the painting is an inscription. It reads as
follows: “The Pledge of the Knights of the Delian Order: I
give you my word. I will keep my word. I will defend this
realm against all those who threaten it.”

Encounter 3: The Alter Room (continued) Follow this guide for the number of enemies:
1 Hero: (1) Bugbear & (1) Goblin Shaman
The hallway opens up in to the Alter Room. From here, the 2 Heroes: (1) Bugbear, (1) Goblin Shaman, & (1) Goblin Archer
heroes can see a Bugbear Warband Leader (1) pacing back and 3 Heroes: (1) Bugbear, (1) Goblin Shaman, & (2) Goblin Archers
forth, anxiously. A Goblin Shaman (2) stands on the alter, 4 Heroes: (1) Bugbear, (1) Goblin Shaman, & (3) Goblin Archers
chanting, deep in the process of casting his ritual. Depending on
the size of the party, there may be Goblin Archers, as well. Bess
is in the cage (top left of the map) and she seems more annoyed
that scared. There is a secret door (marked (S)
on the map) next to the alter.
Tactics: The Goblin Shaman will ignore the fight
until he is attacked or commanded to join it by
the Bugbear (this will trigger immediately
when the Bugbear becomes “Hurt”). The
Goblin Archer (3) behind the cage will
use the cage as cover (tip: cover
grants a 1 die bonus to armor pools).
A hero can move to the space in between
him and the Alter to get around his cover.
Note: If you only have one hero, reduce the
Bugbear’s stats. Have him begin “Bruised”
and utilize Bess judiciously to increase your
hero’s armor pool (see sidebar, “Bess”).
Bess: Have Bess interact with the heroes and enemies
during the fight. She can warn the heroes of an incoming
attack (“watch out behind you!”) to grant them an extra
die in their armor pool and she can distract the enemies
with insults (“do you work hard to be this bad or does it
just come naturally?”) to reduce their armor pool.
Page 11 Hero Kids Creator’s Guild: The Delian Tomb, by Matthew Martin, based on an adventure by Matt Colville www.ReverieAndDragons.com
Encounter 4: The Delian Tomb (secret room)
When the fight is over, the heroes can free Bess from the cage.
She laments the fact that they defeated all the Goblins before
she got a chance to get in on the fight. If asked, Bess will explain
that the Goblins were attempting to summon some kind of
scary monster to control and they planned on feeding it Bess,
(though she’ll note that she wasn’t scared because whatever it
was, she could take it).
Looking around the room, the heroes see, over the alter, a
mural like the one in the offering room.
Read Aloud Text: Looking around the room, you now see
that this is a temple with an alter in the center. This must be
where the Knights of Delian Order came to worship. Above
the alter is a mural, like the one in the earlier room. This
mural depicts the Knights victorious, standing over the
Goblinoids that lie defeated at their feet. Above the mural is
an inscription. It appears to be a riddle and it reads, “in
order to keep this you must first give it to me.” What
would you like to do?
The answer to the riddle is “my word.” Any variation of
answering the riddle or pledging their word to fight those who
would do harm will open the secret door (marked (S) on the
map), leading in to the Delian Tomb.
Page 12 Hero Kids Creator’s Guild: The Delian Tomb, by Matthew Martin, based on an adventure by Matt Colville www.ReverieAndDragons.com
Encounter 4: The Delian Tomb (secret room) Follow this guide for the number of enemies:
1 Hero: (1) Skeleton Pummeler
Here, the heroes can take the sword of the Delian Order as well 2 Heroes: (2) Skeleton Pummeler
as some potions (see the next page). 3 Heroes: (3) Skeleton Pummeler
4 Heroes: (4) Skeleton Pummeler
Read Aloud Text: As the answer to the riddle leaves
your lips, you hear a low rumbling sound as a secret
stone door next to the alter begins sliding open. A
narrow, cobweb covered passage way is now visible.
You brush the dusty cobwebs aside, moving through a
hallway that appears to have been untouched for at least
a hundred years. The passage leads you to another room:
this is the Delian Tomb. The final resting place of the
Knights of the Delian Order. Along the wall are four stone
slabs with skeletons on them. By their feet you see potion
bottles. On the table at the top of the room is a
mummified knight, laid to rest at least a century ago. In
his hands you see a sword.
It’s a curious thing. This room, untouched for
generations, is dark and dusty. But the sword in
this knight’s hands is pristine, shiny, and almost
glowing. What do you do?
Read Aloud Text (as the sword is removed): As you lift
up the sword, you hear a voice boom throughout the
chamber. “Only those that are worthy can wield the
sword of the Delian Order!” and the skeletons of the
Knights rise up to fight you. Roll initiative!
