Diwali or Deepavali is a festival where people from all age groups par ticipate. They give ex-
pression to their happiness by lighting earthen ‘diyas’(lamps), decorating the houses, bursting firecrackers and
inviting near and dear ones to their households for partaking in a sumptuous feast. The illumination of homes
with lights and the skies with firecrackers is an expression of obeisance to the heaven for the attainment of
health, wealth, knowledge, peace and prosperity. According to one belief, the sound of fire-crackers are an indi-
cation of the joy of the people living on earth, making the Gods aware of their plentiful state. Still another possi-
ble reason has a more scientific basis: the fumes produced by the crackers kill a lot of insects and mosquitoes,
found in plenty after the rains.
On the occasion Diwali celebration Bhavans Pearl Wisdom School organized an enthusiastic staging called DY-
UTI. A Rangoli competition was conducted for the students symbolizing the impor tance of happiness and
colours in life. Children enjoyed the Rangoli competition. Children showcased various performances on stage
with lots of energy. Teachers and parents also took an active part in the celebration, with various colourful pro-
grams.

extraordinary shopping centre for traditional Arabic attire and other handicraft items. Items that are available for
purchase include women’s and men’s traditional clothing, as well as, utensils, camping tools, falconry equipment
and more. The students of BPWS got an opportunity to give colors to a big UAE Flag displayed there. There were
volunteers who guided the children to different areas.

plained the reason why they are keeping the falcons in the left hand and why they tie their eyes closely.

Coir Industry, Pottery, Handi crafts using leaves

items are made. The people who are really experts in their areas explained and demonstrated to students how dif-
ferent items are made.

the real cool and comfortable feel of the house of the UAE people. The students were explained about the special-

Fresh dates were given to the students to explore the taste and they explained how to store Dates by putting cumin
seeds inside the packet and pressing them. One small box of dates was presented to each student and staff.

Balloons of UAE Flag colour and UAE flags were given to students. At sharp 11 o’clock, the UAE flag was hoist-
ed and all the balloons were released into the sky. It was really an awesome experience. The visit was really in-

The United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) Flag Day is a national occasion
where people of the UAE remember the efforts of the founders of
their State, Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid, and their brothers who
sacrificed everything for the sake of their nation. It is a day when the
national spirit is renewed, and an occasion to reflect on the achieve-
ments of the era of the President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Na-
hyan. The UAE flag represents meanings of justice, peace, tolerance,
power and moderation, under which all Emiratis live a decent life
and enjoy security and stability. This comes in continuation of the
legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The Flag Day
marks the anniversary of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan be-
coming the president in 2004. Every year on 3rd November people in
the Emirates celebrate this national occasion, in which they reaffirm
their allegiance to the UAE flag, which is a symbol of the country’s
unity and greatness and represents their aspirations. On this day,
Emiratis across the UAE sing the country’s national Anthem and
host the flag atop their buildings and at their backyards.
The Flag Day was celebrated in BPWS on November 3rd. At 11 am,

Principal Dr. Nandakumar hoisted the National Flag in the presence

of admin staff, teachers and students followed by the rendition of the
National Anthem. This event was held near the main entrance of the

school. A drawing and colouring competition of UAE Flag was also
conducted on the same day where they coloured the UAE national

flag. This activity created an awareness of the importance of the flag,
its colour and meaning among the students. All students participated

with great enthusiasm and were eager to know more.

A tsunami is a series of waves caused by a large, sudden
disturbance of the sea. Undersea earthquakes are the
most common cause, but landslides, volcanic activity,
certain types of weather, and meteorites can also cause
tsunamis.
Tsunamis are rare. But they can be extremely deadly.
Tsunamis knows no borders, making international coop-
eration key for deeper political and public understanding
of risk reduction measures.
As a result, the UN General Assembly has designated
5th November as World Tsunami Awareness Day and
called on the world to mark it.
The observance of the day helps to spread awareness
among people across the world in matters related to the
dangers of tsunami and stresses on the importance of
early warning systems in order to mitigate damage from
the often-devastating natural hazard. It also aims at re-
viving traditional knowledge about tsunamis.
As a part of World Tsunami Awareness day, Grade 4 stu-
dents conducted a special assembly about the Tsunami
Awareness day.

Flowers are revered by people because of their beauty and smell. Flowers are a gift to this earth. Their elegance
and delicate touches have us all in awe and exhilaration. Some flowers are associated with certain meanings. For
example, red roses are associated with love, poppies with consolation after death, iris and lilies with burial, and
daisies with innocence.

To celebrate the beauty of flowers graciously brought to our lives by flowers, we At BPWS celebrated Flower day
in a unique way. The students of Kindergarten came dressed up as their favourite flower and spoke a few lines on
the same. It made the students realize the importance of each flower and what great joy it can bring.

They were excited to talk about their favourite flower and also learnt a lot from their friends about different flow-
ers. This helped them develop their listening and speaking skills while having fun during the activity.

Culture plays an important role in the development of any nation. It represents a set of shared attitudes, values,
goals and practices. Culture and creativity manifest themselves in almost all economic, social and other activities.
A country as diverse as India is symbolized by the plurality of its culture.

Our students performed during the cultural event organized by IFCA (Indian Friends Cultural Association) at the
Zayed Central Library "Varnolsavam" held on 8/11/19. This was the first public staging performance for the stu-
dents to put forward their cultural aspect in front of others. It was a great opportunity for the students to showcase
their talent.

Be a true buddy, not a false bully.

The Ministry of Education had launched its second National Bullying Prevention Week campaign running from November 18th to
24th in conjunction with World Children’s Day. The aim of the initiative was to equip students, educators and parents in the UAE

with the skills needed to address bullying.

Bullying is the use of force, or threat, to abuse, aggressively dominate or intimidate. The behavior is often repeated and ha-
bitual. A bullying culture can develop in any context in which humans interact with each other. This may include school, family, the
workplace, the home, and neighborhoods. Bullying remains an important and relevant issue, the problem far from being stamped
out. Public awareness has improved massively over the years and this has spilled over into government policy – all of which shows
the vital importance and impact of awareness campaigns such as Anti-Bullying Week and their power to improve the lives of thou-
sands who, otherwise, may not have had a voice.

BPWS organized various programs for Anti – bullying week which included various activities to throw light on the issue: Poster
making, campaign, Presentations, reading session about friendship and tolerance. This Anti-Bullying Week, raised awareness on the

issue of bullying and the harmful effect it can have on its victims, as well as the different ways in which people from all corners of

society can confront and deal with the issue. Report By Nayana Sasidharan

The School health club is a vehicle that empowers pupils to play an active role in deciding and implementing issues related to their

health when they are in school. The Club also affords the pupils the opportunity to become ‘Agents of Change’ who carry home and

who might be out of school. Pearl's Burjeel Health club is an innovative concept aiming to provide students an avenue for promoting

good healthcare practices in association with Burjeel Medical Center, which comes under VPS Health care. The main aim of the

health club is to promote good health practices among the students. by achieving the objectives in coordination with the head of the

A Zoo is a great place to see and experience new things. At the Zoo, we may see many different kinds of animals.
Some of these animals we might have seen before. Some of them may be new to us.

Al Ain zoo is one of the best environmental, recreational, and educational destinations you can head to in the
country. Al Ain Zoo covers four-kilometer land area, the zoo is home to over 4,000 animals across 200 species.
The zoo was established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 1968. It is one of the most important
and diverse tourism attractions on both local and global level.

Visiting a zoo helps children understand the importance of taking care of the environment as it has a significant

impact on the lives and welfare of animals. Zoos also teach families about the importance of conservation and an-

imal care. A zoo’s paramount purpose is to promote wildlife conservation. A zoo exists to educate. Research hap-

pens, recreation happens, but above all is the intent to educate. BPWS students had a chance to visit Al Ain zoo
on 21st November with teachers. It was an entertainment and also a feast for their eyes. They enjoyed the entire
