gain prices. The novelty stall also had a variety of goods on sale. JS Bank and
Pakistan Petroleum Limited have also supported our cause.

Russian Educational System
Russia's higher education system
started with the foundation of
the universities in Moscow and

the 18th century. The system was
constructed similar to that of
Germany. In Soviet times, every
person in Russia compulsorily
attained a secondary education.
The pursuit of higher education

Russian Film Show Held in Islamabad
“The Barber of Siberia” by Nikita Mikhalkov

Non-commercial demonstration of Nikita Mikhalkov’s Dr. Timur Shah
film “The Barber of Siberia” took place in Islamabad in Dawar
“Islamabad ArtFest-2019”, international festival of arts at
Pakistan National Council of Arts. The audience warmly
accepted the masterpiece of the outstanding Russian
filmmaker. After the show people applauded.

Film is based to reflect life and attitudes of political hier-
archy of Russian empire. Jane Callahan (Julia Ormond),
a beautiful American lady, writes to her son, a cadet at a
famous military academy, about a long kept secret. She
arrived in Russia to assist Douglas McCracken (Richard
Harris), an obsessive engineer who needs the Grand
Duke Alexei Alexandrovich's patronage to sponsor his
invention, a massive machine to harvest the forests. On her travels, she meets two men
who would change her life forever: a handsome young cadet Andrej Tolstoy (Oleg Men-
shikov) with whom she shares a fondness for opera, and the powerful General Radlov who
is entranced by her beauty and wants to marry her. Distraught, Tolstoy attacks the General
who arrests his young rival on false charges and banishes him to Siberia to seven years of
hard labor and a further five years of exile.
