Writing Part 1: Practice

The other member will ask you a series of questions. You should answer all three questions to the best
of your abilities. You have 10 minutes in total. Answer all three questions.

01 Lynn: Hi! Welcome to the club. Why did you decide to join?

02 Lynn: Can you remember the first time you went on a journey
yourself? What was it like?

03 Lynn: What is the most exciting journey you’ve been on?

Writing Part 1: Practice

Lynn: Hi! Welcome to the club. Why did you decide to join?
I was thrilled to join because I want to unite with people who
have an akin passion for travelling. Indeed, I am eager to
explore as many as possible of the sights and experiences that
our wondrous planet has to offer.

Writing Part 1: Practice

Lynn: Can you remember the first time you went on a journey
yourself? What was it like?

Yes, when I was about seven, I travelled across the country to
stay with my aunt and cousins in the countryside. I was
terrified; indeed, I experienced a myriad of emotions at that
moment, but I inevitably went through them.

Absolutely. My most costly and memorable journey to Niagara
Falls. I felt the emotion of being part of a multitude of people
who had the privilege to be there and watch the wonder. The
view was spectacular; I felt incredibly fortunate.

Writing Part 1: Practice

Lynn: What is the most exciting journey you’ve been on?

My journey to Everest was an exceptionally an exciting one. I
didn't climb up to the highest peak, but nature's beauty
surrounded me. The breezes blew through my hair and the
sun shined right in my eyes. It was an extremely incredible
journey of my life.

My exhilarating trip to Sahara, the desert of my childhood
imaginings was truly worthwhile. It was indeed a chance of a
lifetime. The mother nature, the animals I saw, and the people I
encountered with, altered my perspective of life. I am entirely a
changed person since.

all of your questions with a smile? (2) Lastly, what did you think of our new patio? Did you have
a chance to enjoy it? (3) We would love to hear your thoughts!
Yours faithfully,
Krave Café Staff
NOTES:
1. Slow service - made me late for work
2. Friendly staff – but too talkative
3. Patio looked beautiful – but it was raining

Writing Part 2 : Sample Answer

Dear Krave Café Staff,

Thanks for reaching out!

While I normally love to frequent your café, I have to admit I was quite underwhelmed by my experience there the
last time I went. For starters, the service was incredibly slow. I think it took more than 10 minutes till my latte was
served. I know that is not a long time to wait, but it made me late for work. I think it may have been because your
barista was overly chatty with each customer. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to be friendly. However, people have
places to be in the morning!

On my way out, I noticed how lovely the new patio looked. Had I not been running late, or if it were not raining, I
would have loved to enjoy my coffee there.

Let me know if you have any questions about my comments.

Best regards,

Sandra (149 words –C1)

Acing the Exams

In this issue, let me share with you some tips for the upcoming Cambridge exams in June. As Benjamin Franklin
says, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Success doesn’t happen by accident.

For a start, it is vital to prepare a study schedule to keep you organised and manage your time wisely. Keeping a
schedule allows you to revise as much as you can in the shortest possible time.

Apart from that, it is important to be stress-free before your exams. Exam anxiety deters one from performing
their best during the examination. Thus, the true reflection of one’s capabilities may not be captured. It is
advisable and encouraged that you adopt an optimistic and positive approach in overcoming anxiety. It will help
you become comfortable, at ease and ready to face all the challenges in your exams.

It is also wise to practise some practical study techniques such as taking breaks and minimise distractions to help
you be more focused. Similarly, these habits ensure healthy and quality learning, which are essential to ace in
the exams. Avoid burning the midnight oil as this will result to exhaustion and tiredness on the exam day.

To conclude, do follow these proven tips to get your desired results. I wish you the best of luck with your
upcoming exams.
