Fairs-Lloyds signs deal with Teesside Airport
Fairs-Lloyds Travel has signed a deal that will see its shop remain at Teesside International Airport for the next ten years.
A family run business established in 1979, the agency has had a store inside the main terminal building since 2008. Fairs-Lloyds specialises in breaks to Jersey and Majorca.
Loganair restores Heathrow link from Isle of Man
Loganair, in partnership with the Isle of Man Government, has launched daily services between the island and London Heathrow.
Loganair had previously taken over the route between the Isle of Man and London City from British Airways on an interim basis at the start of September and has now moved the service to Heathrow.
This will be the first time that the airline has operated a permanent scheduled service to London Heathrow, after securing runway slots for the IOM service. The route will be operated using a 49-seater Embraer 145 regional.
Loganair already operates routes from the Isle of Man to Liverpool and Manchester and has maintained the island’s passenger air services following the demise of Flybe and the introduction of Covid-19 lockdowns in March 2020.
The airline employs pilots and cabin crew based in the Isle of Man and contracts the maintenance of its aircraft to local company M&A Technical Services, which is based at Ronaldsway.

OCD
OBSESSIVE. CHRISTMAS. DISORDER.
We at DFDS understand that things are the toughest we have ever seen and experienced. Covid-19 has affected all parts of our industry from Airlines, Ferries, Cruises, Independents, Multiples, Sales Managers and Representatives... the list is endless. Support can come in many different forms and we are all in this together. I just wanted to let you all know you are not alone and we at DFDS are always
here to assist and help where possible.
DFDS are still sailing, even though we are travelling at very low passenger numbers, to try and give a little hope and joy to those needing a break. Quarantine rules and restrictions are halting our ability to sell outside the UK as well as inside the UK. Operators and agents are worrying about paying bills and staff redundancies - we are all fighting our own battles that stem from the same issue.
We know that surviving these times makes us stronger and we are already closer than we have ever been as an industry. Eventually we will see the light at the end of the tunnel and our guests will need their trips, their holidays and their visits to families inside and outside the UK.
We are the most robust sector and we will overcome this. Stay strong, stay safe, enjoy the festive season and remember we are here to help, regardless of your situation. Share you load, share your feelings, share your concerns and together we can look forward to a brighter New Year.
Love
Mark Henderson and us all at DFDS

The Voice of Travel in Scotland
In the best of traditions, the 5th of November went off with a bang as SPAA members took travel’s unique case for effective government support to the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood; and ‘Rewarded’ travel partners and colleagues for some very special efforts during the Coronavirus crisis!
There’s a first time for everything and 2020 has sprung a lot of ‘firsts’ on us - not all of them welcome, by any means! From working at home to taking on second jobs, travel people have really faced down the day-by-day heat of the Coronavirus. Yet we’ve still found the determination to raise our profile and tell travel’s story patiently and effectively - in the papers, on television and on radio.
No fewer than 100 ‘travel heroes’ joined together at Holyrood on 5th November to ‘light a firework’ under our politicians. Another first and it took some organising - but it gained strong media coverage and I was really proud of the wide range of passionate travel folk who made the effort to be there. I talked in the last Travel Matters about the pressures on small businesses - staff and owners - and it was great to see so many picking up the specially produced banners.
Coincidentally, on the same day, UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak finally gave in to relentless pressure and extended the Furlough Scheme until March 2021. At the time of writing, the jury’s still out on how effective it will turn out to be, but there’s no doubt that the travel industry’s loud and clear message is getting through. Our fight goes on!
Still pumped up from the protest on the 5th, the evening brought our first ever (virtual) SPAA Annual ‘Rewards and Awards’ show, when we applauded some of the ‘above and beyond the
call of duty’ efforts of our Associate partners and travel agent colleagues and friends.
Apart from the total roasting (!) I
was treated to by my oldest pal and Awards veteran MC Peter Martin, I’ll long remember the ‘Rewards’ for what it shows about travel people - our versatility, energy and kindness; the legendary patter and our sense of fun - always ready to make ourselves the joke!
If you missed the ‘Rewards’ - or if you just want to enjoy the Show again, drop an email to Janice Hogarth at [email protected] and we’ll do our best to help.
Looking forward, as I said - the SPAA’s fight for travel to #BuildBackBetter goes on - and that means re-energised lobbying of the UK and Scottish Governments for tailored financial support and replacement of the impossible stop/go Quarantine system with a scientifically accepted pre
and post-travel Testing regime. Tests that are dependable, inexpensive for passengers and with fast results.
Be sure, we will continue to work hard on your behalf and for all Scottish travellers - and any support YOU
can kick-in will be vital and much appreciated.
So, as we head into the Festive
Season (can you believe it's December already?), one thing's for sure. Just
as we rose to the challenges of the Coronavirus crisis, back in March - and had to learn fast how to work in new ways and meet online - we’ll make it a holiday time to remember and treasure.
And whatever 2021 brings, we’ll make it work and prosper. Because that’s what we do and who we are - Scotland’s travel people!
All the very best to you and yours, however you choose to celebrate and #StaySafe!
And whatever 2021 brings, we’ll make it work and prosper. Because that’s what we do and who we are - Scotland’s travel people!

MEET THE SPAA COUNCIL
Jimmy Martin
Owner
Jimmy Martin Travel
I started my career in travel as a junior, jack of all trades
at Frutin Travel
in Leith and worked
there for 22 years,
eventually running the
show. Unfortunately we
parted company and I started
my wee agency in Stockbridge on my own.
I launched Jimmy Martin Travel just six weeks after the 9/11 disaster as I was sure people would travel again and this became a reality when business came back in a big way.... and here we are 19 years later, in the same situation.
In between these events, Jimmy Martin Travel has won many top agency awards and I have been lucky enough to be President of the SPAA on two occasions, which was certainly in a different dynamic than it is today. Thanks should go to our current President Joanne and her council, the profile
of the organisation this year has gone through the roof and connected with the public at large.
This time, I fear, it will take longer to recover as this crisis is a worldwide situation - IT WILL RETURN - but it is a question of who will survive to see it?
Several things keep me going. Firstly and foremost, a very happy family home life, my music collection and my beloved Hibs football team, who seem to have as many ups and downs as the travel business, the only difference being, Hibs face a crisis every year. I hope the travel industry will only have to deal with such an event once in my lifetime.

Clyde Travel Management
I joined Clyde Travel Management as
General Manager,
way back in 2008
and am now Managing Director, having been with the company for 12 years.
Although Clyde Travel
Management’s main portfolio is
business and marine travel, Clyde
also owns retail agencies - Alba Travel in Inverness and Beaver Travel in Elgin and Forres.
My career in travel, after graduating from Strathclyde University, led me to working as General Sales Manager for Intourist which gave me a really interesting background in the challenges that travel brings.
Today, I lead an international and diverse team of talented travel professionals and both I and my teams are passionate about travel, helping our Corporate and Marine travellers get the most out of their business trip. I lead my teams
in Glasgow, Sweden, India and the USA, with a total of 13 operational divisions.
I am very passionate and eager to improve things in the travel arena and to learn about new solutions. I joined the SPAA Council two years ago to be involved from the inside in order to help the industry.
When I am away from the business, I enjoy spending my time with my young family, relaxing and having fun with them.
I also love listening to music and writing short stories.

MORE DESTINATIONS AND FLIGHTS WITH QATAR AIRWAYS
Qatar Airways, the national carrier of the State of Qatar, currently operates more than 700 weekly flights to over 100 destinations across six continents, flying from three UK gateways, including Edinburgh, London Heathrow and Manchester, with further plans to expand their network to 125 destinations by the end of the IATA Winter Season.
Passengers can fly from Edinburgh four times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) on Qatar Airways’ state-of-the-art Dreamliner B787. The airline’s mix of fuel-efficient aircraft and strategic network management has enabled it to quickly resume flights and expand services in line with passenger demand.
In the face of the pandemic, Qatar Airways has solidified its position
as the largest international carrier; flying over 175 million kilometres to repatriate over 2.3 million passengers on over 35,000 flights, carrying more passengers and cargo than any other airline and fulfilling its mission of taking people home and supporting the recovery of international travel and vital global supply chains.
The airline has also worked closely with governments and companies around the world to operate over 420 charters and extra sector flights, whilst implementing the most advanced safety and hygiene measures on board its aircraft and in its award-winning home and hub, Hamad International Airport. Qatar
Airways have enforced robust health and safety measures onboard by introducing personal protective equipment for both customers and cabin crew.
These measures include offering face shields and a complimentary protective kit including a single-use face mask, disposable powder-free gloves and an alcohol-based hand sanitiser gel to all passengers, in addition to a disposable protective gown for cabin crew, which is fitted over their uniforms, as well as safety glasses, gloves and a mask.
For aircraft equipped with the award- winning Qsuite, Business Class customers are offered even greater privacy with sliding partitions and fully closing doors and an option to display a ‘Do Not Disturb’ indicator if they wish to limit their interactions with cabin crew.
Qatar Airways offers an unrivalled flexible booking policy to its passengers, demonstrating their commitment to honouring their obligations to passengers who need
to change their plans due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on global travel and ensuring customers can travel with confidence.
From 14th November, passengers can use Qatar Airways services to England and Scotland from a range of global destinations also on the safe travel corridor list via the airline’s Doha hub and will be exempt from the 14-day self-isolation.
Qatar Airways serves a large number of countries appearing on the UK government safe travel corridor list, such as Thailand, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the Maldives, Hong Kong and Singapore.
A multiple award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was named ‘World’s Best Airline’ by the 2019 Skytrax World Airline Awards for the fifth time – an industry first for any airline. It was also named ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’, ‘World’s Best Business Class’ and ‘Best Business Class Seat’, in recognition of its ground-breaking Business Class experience, Qsuite.
Qatar Airways offers an unrivalled flexible booking policy to its passengers

GARY REAVELY
CHECKS-IN
WITH...
Edinburgh/Belfast - George Best Belfast City Airport/Edinburgh ATR 72 Aircraft
Following the demise of Flybe - Aer Lingus Regional (operated by Stobart Air) saw the opportunity to base five of their ATR 72 aircraft at Belfast City Airport, flying multi- frequency routes to Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, East Midlands and Exeter.
I recently took the opportunity to fly with them to Belfast, to see what measures they have put in place for passenger safety during the current pandemic.
PRE-FLIGHT ADMINISTRATION
Aerlingus.com is the place to go and it was very easy to check myself in and select my outbound aircraft seat. Aer Lingus also offers check-in at
the airport.
EDINBURGH TO GEORGE BEST BELFAST CITY AIRPORT FLIGHT
When I arrived at the airport, I went to the Aer Lingus branded desk where staff were busy helping passengers with checked bags and issuing boarding passes.
Edinburgh was busier than when I last flew from there a few weeks ago which was great to see, with its excellent safety protocols in place to ensure the safety of its guests at all times.
The aircraft arrived well ahead of schedule and boarding was very slick with passengers called strictly by seat row and separated on the walk to
the aircraft.
The ATR 72 is a twin propeller aircraft that seats 72 passengers in a 2 - 2 seating configuration. The cabin is light and airy with very comfortable leather seats and good leg room.
A big bonus is that the aircraft has much larger overhead bins than the Dash 8 aircraft operated by Flybe, so is ideal for those just wanting to take hand luggage for a short trip.
I had not flown with Aer Lingus for quite a while. My overwhelming memory of them is the friendly and helpful flight attendants and this has not changed. The crew ensured the social distancing measures as passengers boarded the aircraft, clearly explained the Covid-19 procedures in place and apologised
for not being able to provide a beverage service.
After a short flight time of 35 minutes, passengers disembarked with full social distancing procedures and the crew were great helping some elderly passengers with their hand luggage. Within minutes of landing at BHD, I was in a taxi and on my way for the very short trip into the city centre.
GEORGE BEST BELFAST CITY TO EDINBURGH FLIGHT
A 10-minute taxi ride dropped me outside the terminal of this passenger
friendly airport. I decided to check- in at the airport which was fast and simple, with just a short walk through the security check. With the airport’s Covid-19 procedures, I felt very safe and it is an easy stroll to the gate.
OVERVIEW OF AER LINGUS
These two flights cemented the view
I have always had of Aer Lingus -
with their cabin crew amongst the friendliest in the air. They happily go that extra mile for passengers - making flying with them a real pleasure.
Combine the ease of flying through Belfast City Airport with the quality of Aer Lingus and you have a great start and finish to any trip to Belfast.
In addition, all the Covid-19 procedures in place at Edinburgh, Belfast and
with Aer Lingus were extremely well executed. Great job.

TRAVEL NEWS
COVID-19 testing opens at airports
The first public Covid screening centre has opened at Edinburgh Airport.
The ExpressTest site is located in front of the terminal in the FastPark area of the car park. Passengers
and staff at Edinburgh Airport will be charged at a subsidised rate of £80 and £60 respectively to use the screening service, whilst it will also be available for the general public for £99.
Test results will be emailed or texted to customers typically the next day, with airline passengers advised to schedule a test 48-96 hours prior to their departure time.
Those who screen negative will be emailed a Fit to Fly certificate that is authorised by a doctor, along with their test result, but passengers will need to check whether this document will be accepted at their destination.
To book a test, visit www.expresstest.co.uk and select a date and time. Customers will then be sent

CELEBRATE
the Celtic connection...
The Barbados Celtic Festival, which takes place on the last weekend in May every year, celebrates the links between the Celtic countries of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Nova Scotia, the Gallic regions in Europe and Barbados.
The Festival dates back to the 1990s when Welsh woman Ruth Williams brought her father’s Male Voice Choir over from Wales to perform in the Frank Collymore Hall. Since then many well known figures from all the Celtic areas
of the world have travelled to Barbados to take part and to enjoy Celtic music, activities and food.
In 2011, Carol Anderson from Edinburgh took over the festival planning and brought in the iconic folk musician Eddi Reader and her band to perform.
The festival has gone from strength to strength and has also featured Peatbog Faeries, Martyn Graves, Hamish Moore, Big Rory and Ochie, The Mackenzie Brothers and John McCusker to name a few.
Next year’s Celtic Festival will take place from 19th - 24th May and for more information visit: www.barbadosceltic festival.com

ESCAPE...
Barbados offers the ultimate escape from it all, with more than 60 beaches set on 70 miles of coastline, crystal clear blue waters and a warm and sunny year-round climate.
With an average daytime high of 30°C / 86°F, the island has over 3,000 hours of sunshine each year. The prevailing northeast trade winds ensure a cool breeze and the rain typically comes in quick showers. The dry season lasts from January to June.
The west coast of the island offers calm waters and white sandy beaches. Surfers should head to the eastern
shoreline, with the Atlantic trade winds providing the perfect waves and well known as one of the best surfing spots in the world.
To the south, the golden sands and reef-protected waters are ideal for
a day of snorkelling or swimming, while the southeast coast is ideal for adventure seekers with windsurfing, sheer cliffs and fine pink sand.
Whether visitors want to jet-ski, boogie board, paddle board, kite surf, or simply relax with a rum punch in hand, Barbados has it all!
Crane Beach in the parish of St. Philip has consistently been recognized as one of the Top 10 Beaches in the world and all beaches in Barbados are open to the public.

For breathtaking views and stunning
scenery, visitors to Barbados should head the parish of St. Andrew to the eastern parish of St. Andrew.
Here you will find the ‘Scotland District’, named by the early settlers of the island as it reminded them of Scotland. However unlike Scotland, the hilly highlands of Barbados feature tropical forest vegetation, while the rest of the island is quite flat and deforested.
Known for its breathtaking view of the Scotland District, another must see is Cherry Tree Hill. At approximately 850 feet above sea level, this is not only a beautiful location, but is also a place which defies the laws of gravity - when parking your car, you will find that it will roll uphill!
Also worth a visit is the famous Morgan Lewis Windmill, where in the 19th century the harvested crops of sugar were brought to be ground to extract the sugar cane juice and then dispatched to Britain to be refined, together with molasses and rum.

INDULGE...
in a taste of rum
The Mount Gay Rum Tour has become one of the most popular tours for holidaymakers to Barbados.
The tour begins in 1637, just after the time when sugar was first brought to the island. Visitors learn all about the original Gilboa Plantation, in the northern parish of St. Lucy, which later became Mount Gay as well
as the copper pot sills, ageing vats and sun-driven fermentation processes involved in the making of rum. The tour features artefacts, archival black and white photo galleries, a video show and taste-testings.
There are three tours to choose from and all include
a visit to the bottling area that prepares over 15,000 bottles of Mount Gay Rum each day as well as tastings of various Mount Gay Rums.
Another rum tour is offered by St. Nicholas Abbey, which has a long tradition of producing rum. Purchased in 2006, the Abbey is currently being restored.
As one of the last surviving and intact 17th century plantations on the island, St. Nicholas Abbey is being developed as a self-supporting plantation.

DREAMS... do come true The story behind the tartan of Barbados
Robert & Maureen Guibal, who own and run the company, James Robertson Kiltmaker in central Glasgow, were delighted when two years ago, Shane Thomas popped into the shop.
Shane spoke passionately about his love of Barbados and the historic links between Scotland and the island. He explained that for sometime, he had been trying to find someone who would create a tartan for Barbados, which would help link the close ties between the history and cultures of the two countries.
Shane wanted a tartan using only the colours of the National flag; blue to represent the sea and sky; yellow for the golden sands of the island; and the black broken trident which symbolises Neptune and the breaking away from Britain in 1966.
Relishing a challenge, Robert and Maureen started the process of designing a tartan that would be very traditional but with a modern Caribbean twist.
Then came the huge task of having the wool yarn specially dyed to match the colours of the Barbados flag. It was then time to get the ‘Island of Barbados’ tartan into production and registered with the official Scottish Register of Tartans!
Unfortunately due to Covid-19, the launch of the first ever Caribbean tartan has been postponed however, once revealed, it will be a dream come true for Shane!

DECEMBER 2020 31

ESCORTED TOURING WITH RIVIERA TRAVEL
In these challenging times, it’s perhaps more inviting than ever for your clients to put all the planning and organising of their holiday in the hands of an expert and a great way to do this can be on an Escorted Tour. Riviera Travel offers a portfolio of tours to cater to all tastes. I got to sample one of their Italian tours, taking in Lake Garda, Verona and Venice to see how it all worked.
So, what can your clients expect
on a Riviera Travel Escorted Tour? Well, they will be completely looked after from start to finish that’s for sure. They will enjoy a well thought out itinerary that strikes the
perfect balance of free time with organised tours as well as the ideal mix of culture, history, scenery and architecture. Guests will certainly come back with more knowledge than they went with and possibly weighing a few extra pounds!
Our tour was based in the town of Riva del Garda on the banks of the Lake, which allowed us to explore
a new destination each day in the region of Veneto. Having one base meant no constant packing and unpacking which was a huge plus. We stayed at the four-star Hotel Kristal Palace, which features a rooftop with seating area, lounge beds, bar and pool with spectacular views - it all felt very luxurious!
The food was also exceptional with a different menu every day.
The quality of the tour manager
can make or break an escorted
tour and our guide, Nicola Wood
was exceptional. A Scot with Italian heritage and huge passion for the country, her knowledge was second to none and not confined only to the tours. In the bus, we were regaled with stories, anecdotes and tales that brought the entire region and country to life.
Our itinerary included a visit to a local winery (including a tasting of course), a day trip in and around Lake Garda which took in both Sirmione and Salo, as well as day visits to both Verona and Venice.
Verona is a total gem of a town. Steeped in history, it’s compact enough to get around but also packs a punch with its architectural sites.
Juliet’s house and famous balcony is there, of course, but you simply can’t beat the Arena (Amphitheatre) where you can sit and admire the views while having lunch in the elegant Piazza Bra.
Venice is obviously a firm favourite but even if your clients have visited before, they will love Riviera’s ‘Hidden Venice’ walking tour, using their local Venetian guide which takes you to places the tourists just don’t go.
Escorted Touring represents a great sales opportunity for agents, so why not get in touch with Riviera’s sales team. You can be totally confident in recommending Riviera Travel to your clients.
Hilary Douglas was a guest with Riviera Travel. For more information on all tours and holidays, including their new UK Tours programme, visit: www.riveriatravel.co.uk
Riviera has made several adjustments to ensure the health and safety of their guests is paramount during the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond. Their coaches run at 50% capacity to ensure social distancing, hand sanitisers are readily available and mask wearing mandatory when with your tour group. For the walking tours, they have introduced personal vox radios so you can keep a safe distance from the guide and rest of group. All hotels they use are fully Covid aware and cleaned to exacting standards as well as ensuring mask wearing and hand hygiene is adhered to at all times. All of these measures mean you can reassure your clients that safe touring is possible and won’t detract from the enjoyment of their holiday.

FLORIDA
DISCOVER THE
GREAT OUTDOORS
Visitors to the Sunshine State have plenty of choice to get away from the crowds when it comes to remote places to stay.
From swamp camping in the Everglades to glamping in a tepee
on a dude ranch, there is a range of budget-friendly accommodation that allows holidaymakers to experience a different side of Florida.
For a western type escape, the Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo in Central Florida features a luxury teepee glamping experience with American-themed decor, including
a double sided stone rock hearth fireplace, cowhide furnishings, a porcelain cast iron claw bathtub and access to the resort’s 1,700-acre
dude ranch. A personal “glamping” concierge is also available who can arrange tickets to the Westgate Rodeo, pony rides and swamp buggy rides.
Further north and situated on the Alabama-Florida border at Coldwater Creek in Pensacola, is Katie’s Kaboose, a converted freight train carriage, complete with a mini kitchen, shower and full-size bed, an outside charcoal grill, fire pit and a hammock. Guests can enjoy the thrill of a zipline canopy tour across the creek or tube down the crystal-clear streams through
the Blackwater River State Forest. Secluded cabins, stilted lodges and camping are also available.
Alternatively, travellers who really want to get away from it all, can navigate their way through the mangroves by kayak to one of the chickee sites that are dotted throughout the Everglades.
Chickee huts are sheltered camping platforms used where dry land is inaccessible - a man-made miniature island in the open water of a mangrove swamp. Wilderness permits are required for overnight camping and cost £12 per person, plus an additional £2 per night.
The Trail Lakes Campground, located in the heart of the Big Cypress Western Everglades, provides a chickee hut glamping experience in chickee
huts made by local Seminole native Americans. Whilst the thatched chickees are rustic with no water or electricity, they are situated by the campground wash facilities. They sleep up to four people and cost from £150 per night.
THRILLS AND SPILLS AT SEAWORLD ORLANDO
SeaWorld’s first launch coaster, Ice Breaker, will open in Spring 2021.
This brand new coaster will be located across from Wild Arctic and will feature four launches, including both backwards and forwards as well as a reverse launch into the steepest beyond vertical drop in Florida - a 93 feet
tall spike with 100 degree angle.
Visitors to SeaWorld can also enjoy the roller coaster thrills of Mako, Manta and Kraken, the water rapids of Infinity Falls and the flume fun of Journey to Atlantis.

FLORIDA
Experience the
Real Florida
A new tours and excursions company has recently launched in Orlando.
Real Florida Adventures aims to provide top-quality tours and excursions and will offer travellers a range of unique experiences in the Sunshine State.
The new venture is headed up by James Brown, a Brit who has lived in Florida for over 25 years. With over
20 years of experience in the tour and excursions business as well as working with other tourist attractions, James comments: “We have some amazing things to do and see in Florida and we want these to be considered as “must do” rather than a “maybe” when people
“We want to challenge holidaymakers to explore beyond the major theme parks and experience all the wonderfully unique experiences that the state has to offer.”
The effects of Covid-19 have been devastating for the global travel industry and James adds: “Starting a new company in these difficult times is hugely challenging. However, we know how resilient the Brits and Irish are and that there will be pent up demand as and when they can return to Florida.
“For this reason, we are already establishing ourselves in these markets, ready to help agents tap into these great commissionable tours and excursions which will offer their customers a truly unforgettable Florida experience.”
Initially Real Florida Adventures will operate smaller vehicles, to limit large numbers due to Covid-19, offering
t
tours and excursions to Kennedy Space
C
Center, Crystal River in Citrus County
a
and Clearwater Beach. Plans are in
p
place to extend the fleet and new tours
w
will be unveiled over the coming year.
There will be four tour options for Kennedy Space Centre including Dine with an Astronaut and the Real Florida Manatee Adventure will take guests
to the only place where you are legally allowed to swim with Manatees in the USA, Crystal River.
Other excursions include a day trip to Clearwater Beach, which will offer five itinerary options including Clearwater Marine Aquarium and Winter the Dolphin.
Agents can book the tours through DoSomethingDifferent or through their preferred attraction ticket supplier.

Classic American Fun
For a taste of classic Florida, the walking district of Old Town in Kissimmee, is a throwback to good old fashioned American fun.

With 18-acres of tree-lined brick streets, Old Town is ideal for families, with the outdoor venue allowing for social distancing if necessary. Visitors can discover over 70 unique shops and restaurants as well as family friendly attractions and rides, including the iconic front entrance Ferris Wheel, standing 86-feet over Highway 192 and offering spectacular views of Kissimmee. Also reminiscent of the classic ‘50s is the 45-feet colourfully lit Juke Box.
Weekly entertainment includes Saturday Night Classic Car Cruise (the longest running weekly car show and cruise in America) along with live music.
Located one mile east of 1-4, just minutes from Walt Disney World, Universal, SeaWorld and International Drive, the venue is easy to get to, offers lots of parking and free admission, with guests paying for individual rides.

agent talk small
with Bruce Cairns Travel Counsellor
Who would be your ideal dinner guest?
I would invite the great Sir Michael Palin, just to chat about his worldwide travel and experiences - all with a bit of humour thrown in.
Who would you most like to take on a world cruise?
It has to be my wife Gail. She is my favourite person, my rock and the best travelling companion I could ask for!
What is the strangest request you have had from a client?
Not my client directly, but I was involved in helping to find a client’s false teeth that he had lost on holiday - can’t say that has happened before!
Do you have a favourite film?
It is a toss-up between The Quiet Man, showing my age but I simply loved John Wayne growing up. I also love Ireland and The Blues Brothers - all that is great in a movie, with something to make you laugh, brilliant music and car chases!
Do you enjoy live concerts?
Most definitely! I went to see Michael Bublé at the Odyssey in Belfast. It was the most amazing concert and I was also treated to some wonderful hospitality from Belfast International Airport!
Tell us about your favourite destination
Wow, that is such a hard question! To decide on one favourite destination is almost impossible as there are so many!
However, if I was allowed to only visit one place ever again it would have to be Rome. Each time I visit I see and discover something new, plus you get to enjoy all the history, culture and the amazing food.
What was the best piece of advice you were ever given?
Always look after your customers in the same way that you would look after your family. Sound advice which has held me in good stead for many, many years and which I still follow today.
Have you had any famous clients?
No, but I did have to call the lead singer in a famous Scottish band to ask him to call in and pay cash for his trip after his cheque bounced!
What advice would you give young people joining the travel industry?
I would simply say - make sure you enjoy it! You will meet some wonderful people and see amazing things. Remember to take every opportunity you can to explore our wide, wonderful world.
Do you have any hidden talents that would surprise people?
I’m afraid not. No hidden talents that I can share anyway!
What is your favourite Karaoke song?
Caledonia – although I am a rubbish singer!
If time and money were no object,
how would you spend the perfect day?
I would have a full Scottish Breakfast in Fife looking out over the Forth, followed by a thrilling safari and a spot of lunch in South Africa. This would be followed by a super dinner in Rome and finally, some bar hopping in Nashville, while listening to loads of great bands
and music!

TRAVEL NEWS
Emirates increases UK services
Emirates has expanded services in the UK following the establishment of the UK-UAE air corridor, with additional flights to Glasgow and Birmingham, together with increased services to Manchester and London.
Flights to Glasgow have increased from four-a-week to daily services, as well as 10 flights per week to Manchester, of which six will be served by an Emirates A380 and four with a Boeing 777-300ER.
Under the air travel corridor, travellers entering the UK from the UAE will no longer be required to quarantine. UK travellers heading to Dubai can opt to do their COVID-19 PCR tests 96 hours in advance of their flight, or to do the test on arrival in Dubai.
Customers who purchase an Emirates ticket for travel on or before 31st March 2021, can also take advantage of flexible rebooking terms and options, if they have to change their travel plans.
Emirates is also offering free, global cover for COVID-19 related costs for passengers and will cover COVID-19 related medical expenses, free of cost, should they
be diagnosed with COVID-19 during their travel while they are away from home. This cover is available until 31st December 2020 and is valid for 31 days from the moment they fly the first sector of their journey.
Emirates customers can also take advantage of Dubai Connect, which gives customers transiting through its hub, a complimentary night's stay in Dubai in a four or five-star hotel, ground transfers to and from the airport, meals at the hotel as well as UAE visa on arrival where required.
The offer is available to customers booked in all classes with a best connection time that exceeds 10 hours.
Newmarket Holidays expands UK touring programme
This year, Newmarket Holidays has seen huge demand for UK and Ireland-based tours and has responded by significantly expanding their portfolio.
The company has added eight new exclusive tours in total, including a Beatles-themed musical adventure in Liverpool, an exploration of Kent’s historic Cinque Ports and castles, together with the county’s links to James Bond and a unique Highland safari in Scotland.
The new tours include several included and optional excursions, allowing customers to tailor their holiday experience based on their interests and desires. In addition there are three new Andre Rieu concerts in Belfast, Dublin and Glasgow each with a touring element added too.
Richard Forde, Trade Sales Manager, said: “Newmarket has always had
a strong presence with tours to
the UK and Ireland. Reacting to customer demand and changing market conditions, we are delighted to expand our range, enabling agents to offer their customers a wider choice. All of these new holidays are available online and will feature in our new winter brochure, which is coming out very soon!”
