INTREPID TRAVEL LAUNCHES AGENT INCENTIVE
Intrepid Travel has launched an incentive for agents, Zero to Hero, which lets them earn their way to a free small group adventure.
Zero to Hero is open to UK & Ireland agents who have been employed in the industry for 12 months or less, or who haven’t booked Intrepid for at least 12 months prior to the start of the incentive.
Agents who get involved by completing the Intrepid Training Course on OTT and selling three eligible Intrepid trips, will earn themselves an Intrepid Urban Adventures voucher. Agents who sell a further two trips will also earn a free Intrepid trip in destinations like Costa Rica,
Sri Lanka and Jordan - terms & conditions apply.
Joanna Reeve, Intrepid’s head of business development and partnerships, said: “Following on from our successful ‘Sell 3, Travel Free’ incentive, we wanted to put a new initiative in place that helps to nurture new talent in the industry and supports agents new to adventure touring.
“The best way to learn about our style of travel that’s designed to truly experience local culture is to experience it firsthand, so we can’t wait to have more agents joining our small group adventures.”
The Zero to Hero incentive closes 31 December 2023. Agents must email intrepidlovesagents@intrepid travel.com with their OTT completion certificate and booking references to claim each prize.
ABERCROMBIE & KENT EXPANDS INTO COSTA RICA WITH DMC OPENING
Abercrombie & Kent has announced its expansion into Costa Rica with the opening of a Destination Management Company (DMC).
By establishing its own DMC in Costa Rica, A&K aims to deliver the same level of service it offers globally with travel experiences that showcase the essence of each destination. Costa Rica’s natural beauty, rich biodiversity and dedication to sustainable tourism make it a perfect addition to A&K’s global portfolio.
Martin Froggatt, Chief Destination Officer at A&K Travel Group, comments: “Costa Rica consistently ranks as a top seller among our Central American destinations, so
it made perfect sense to set up operations here. Now, we’re ready and enthusiastic to design outstanding travel experiences that deeply connect visitors to the distinct features of this remarkable destination.”
By setting up their own office, A&K hires and trains local staff, purchasing equipment and building the infrastructure needed to support sustainable tourism. They provide job opportunities to a diverse workforce
of more than 2,500 citizens of the countries where they operate, along with on-going training in subjects such as computers, first aid, driver training, history, geography, natural resources and conservation.
Through its philanthropic arm, Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy (AKP), A&K actively supports community partners involved in education, healthcare, conservation and enterprise development.

‘TREES FOR DAYS’ INITIATIVE LAUNCHES TO SUPPORT ENVIRONMENT AND COMMUNITY ONE TREE PER G ADVENTURES’ TRAVELLER TO BE PLANTED PER DAY
The planet is facing an environmental crisis that is becoming increasingly urgent. Travel companies - and travellers - have the potential to play an important role helping protect the earth for future generations.
Local communities can also be pivotal in helping to alleviate the climate biodiversity crisis as they protect their local environment for tourism purposes, helping to regenerate natural landscapes impacted by global warming.
This World Tourism Day, celebrated
on 27 September, community tourism pioneer, G Adventures, launched its new “Trees for Days” initiative bringing the protection of the environment and empowerment of local communities closer together to enact powerful change through travel and tourism.
For every day a traveller is on a
G Adventures tour, one tree will be grown in their name, helping to both reduce carbon emissions and increase support in 17 local communities around the world.
The tree-planting projects are in locations that have been severely impacted by climate change through deforestation, or that are currently under threat. By supporting the development of sustainable tourism enterprises within these communities, the travel industry can help protect the environment, as well as create additional income streams for local people, most often benefiting and empowering marginalized Indigenous populations, women and youth.
In partnership with G Adventures’ non-profit partner Planeterra, which uses community tourism to change lives and Reforest, which actively supports tree planting and forest conservation work around the world, one million trees have already been purchased, as the small group adventure operator has backdated the planting of trees for all travellers booked since 1st January 2023.
Each time a traveller books a trip with G Adventures, a tree bundle purchase will be made - with trees purchased in the destination they are travelling to wherever possible.
Travellers will be able to log into their
G Adventures account and keep tabs on their tree grove - how many they’ve grown, where they’ve planted roots and even add more to their forest when they travel independently.
Founded in 1990 by social entrepreneur Bruce Poon Tip,
G Adventures is a small group adventure travel operator offering more than 750 trips in 100 countries, on all seven continents. G Adventures’ award-winning trips already support local communities, giving travellers meaningful experiences with people, cultures, landscapes and wildlife, while offering them the freedom and flexibility to explore on their own.
It’s responsible approach to travel is demonstrated through its ‘G for Good’ social impact initiatives, which include travel guidelines for children, wildlife and Indigenous people, community- based social enterprise projects travellers can experience on a trip
and its industry-leading ‘Ripple Score’ assessment which measures how many traveller dollars stay in the
local economy.

CONTIKI LAUNCH FIRST EVER K-WAVE TOUR OF SOUTH KOREA
Contiki, the social travel brand for 18-35s, has announced the first ever youth-focussed trip to South Korea.
The 9-day trip begins and ends in Seoul with a focus on K-Wave Culture in addition to the more traditional tourist hotspots, something previously unavailable as a guided tour. Activities include a high-speed rail journey to Busan, plus
a stopover at Jeonju – the UNESCO World Heritage town known for its traditional ambience and local hospitality.
In and around the capital, guests will have the chance to visit Gangnam, made famous worldwide by Psy’s smash hit song ‘Gangnam Style’, along with Seongsu – once known as a shoe-making district and now considered one of South Korea’s most exciting shopping districts.
Experiences included on the tour are a trip to the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), where on a clear day you can look over the border into North Korea, a visit to the Awon Hanok Gallery along with plenty of authentic cuisine – including a Korean BBQ dinner on the final night. Guests will also have the chance to discover Busan by night on board a private yacht, to watch a baseball game and to star in their very own K-pop music video.
“Over the past few years, South Korea has become a powerhouse for popular culture,” says Taryn Welsh, Operations Director, Asia at Contiki. “It’s now one of the most sought-after travel destinations among 18-35s globally, thanks in no small part to movies and TV shows such as Parasite and Squid Game, plus the rising popularity of K-pop and K-beauty.
“We’re delighted to be launching this trip. It does a great job of showcasing both the modern and traditional aspects of this diverse and wonderful country. Travellers will flitter from traditional Buddhist temples to the vending machines of Gangnam and back again.
“And with Contiki, they don’t need to worry about the language barriers, navigation, transport or anything like that. Our Trip Manager and local guide take care of all this for them, so they’re free to relax and enjoy their trip.”

TITAN TRAVEL’S INAUGURAL PRIVATE JET ADVENTURE TAKES OFF
Titan Travel recently waved off its first-ever private jet holiday on a 23-day ‘Captivating Cultures’ grand tour.
The 737-400 single aisle aircraft, featured five cabin crew, a flight deck of three pilots and three tour managers and an aviation specialist operations director on board to oversee the tour.
Saga Travel Group’s CEO, John Constable and Marketing Director, Lisa Warner were on hand to see the group off on their travels. Constable commented: “We’re delighted that our inaugural private jet tour has taken to the skies and we wish all our guests an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
“They were in high-spirits as they boarded, looking forward to the next 23-days and nine cultural destinations from Petra to the Taj Mahal and Samarkand. We can’t wait to hear all their stories when they return!”
The tour included Rome, Montenegro, Jordan, India and Uzbekistan and ended in Istanbul and featured once-in-a-lifetime experiences, many of which will be exclusive to the group including a visit to the Vatican before it opened, cruising in the Bay of Kotor, visiting iconic Petra and sitting under the stars in Wadi Rum desert. India involved a tour of the Palace of the Winds, game drives in search of tigers and dawn views of the Taj Mahal.
Titan is repeating the Captivating Cultures private jet tour in September 2024 and also has a 21-day round- the-world tour that departs in November 2024 and takes in Rio de Janeiro, Easter Island, Fiji, Sydney, Siem Reap, Agra, Delhi and the Maasai Mara. The operator is also set to launch a new 2025 Spice Route private jet tour shortly.
John Constable continued: “The Captivating Cultures private jet tour has proved incredibly popular and was 70% sold within two months of opening for sale, so we are hosting another one next year, along with a round- the-world option. There’s also a 2025 Spice Route launching on sale in the coming weeks, which we’ve already had significant pre-registrations for.”

What are the best ways to check pricing and availability and make a reservation?
We work with all the major bed
banks and tour operators. We also have our own booking system www.IberostarPro.com which has proven to be very popular this year, offering great commission levels and flexible policies for our agent partners.
Tell us about Iberostar’s sustainability policy and carbon reduction programmes?
Our journey to carbon neutrality in 2030 is made up of 3 pillars. Firstly, moving towards a circular economy
- we have been free of single use plastics since 2020 and we’ll be waste free by 2025.
We also continue to focus on our coastal health and responsible consumption of seafood - of which will be 100% responsibly sourced by 2025.
We also now have our first zero emission hotels in Mallorca and Montenegro, and all of our hotels in Spain are now run on renewable electricity.
What’s your groups policy?
As a BDM I am the sole point of contact for agents with group enquiries (eilidh. [email protected]). We have groups departments throughout our entire portfolio, so I am able to forward on any queries that our agent partners might have.
We are also delighted to be able to offer group bookings of up to eight rooms directly with www.IberostarPro.com.
Can you share with us any success stories with agents selling Iberostar?
Sales with our agent partners have gone through the roof this year which is amazing to see! This year we were thrilled to become the top selling hotel chain with a well-known lux home working agency. We’re very creative in ideas - for example we have introduced our ‘Iberostar Reporter’ concept with them, something that we would love to replicate with other agent partners. Of course, other ideas are always welcome!

do you have worldwide and
what’s the key demographic?
We have a portfolio of over 100 properties worldwide, with over 80% of them in a beachfront location. We have hotels for families such as our newly renovated Iberostar Selection Albufera Park, adult focused properties such as Iberostar Grand El Mirador and lastly, we have our urban hotels - featuring in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona
and Lisbon.

And there’s magic for all the family on our three and four- night Santa Breaks.
There’s plenty to do in Lapland and with Inghams you can pre-book a whole host of excursions such as snowmobiling, reindeer sleigh ride, husky-sled safaris, skiing and cross- country skiing. Not forgetting the search for the Northern Lights! On

Nothing compares to visiting Santa and his helpers in their home in Lapland - a snowy winter wonderland like no other. Clients can make the spirit of Christmas come alive on a magical adventure to see Santa and have an authentic festive experience with family and friends. Holidaymakers can visit Santa’s elves’ hideaway, hidden away in a snowy, candlelit, magic forest - full of atmosphere and fun for the children.
They can take a peak in one of Santa’s workshops and make gingerbread with his elves, take part in Elf school and various snow games for the youngsters - tobogganing and snowballs are always on the agenda. They can also enjoy a break in a cosy cabin, cook a yummy sausage over the open fire and warm up with a cup of hot berry juice. Plus of course, there’s the highlight of the day - a private meeting with Santa Claus himself where the little ones are gifted a special something!
Customers can travel with Inghams on a seven-night holiday in either Levi, Ylläs or Saariselkä. These holidays run from November - February.
All trips include accommodation, flights and transfers to and from the resort. All excursions must be added on as extras. If you want to add on the Santa experience to a seven-night trip, you can do so in November and December only.

NEWS
AIR TRANSAT RESEARCH REVEALS BRITONS’ PERCEPTIONS OF CANADA
Air Transat recently conducted a survey among 2,000 UK adults, in order to gain an insight into Britons’ perceptions of Canada’s most notable exports.
The research has been conducted as part of a brand evolution being launched by Air Transat this autumn, with a new strapline “Where Open Minds Fly”. Britons highlighted insulin as the greatest Canadian export, followed by the pacemaker, maple syrup and peanut butter. The survey also revealed that many Britons hold Canadian celebrities in high esteem, including actors Ryan Reynolds and Keanu Reeves, musician Bryan Adams and Celine Dion.
Some 62% of respondents considered Canada’s natural beauty as the country’s most exceptional attribute, with the breathtaking scenery, considered as ‘world-leading’ by 76% of respondents, followed by the country’s wildlife (42%), friendly people (23%) and a wide range of outdoor activities (26%).
Nearly half of respondents (48%) who had not yet visited Canada expressed a desire to do so, while over a quarter (26%) said making a trip to Canada was on their bucket list, placing it in the top three countries in the world.
AER LINGUS CELEBRATES TRANSATLANTIC SCHEDULE
Aer Lingus is celebrating the success of its summer schedule to North America and recently welcomed its two millionth 2023 transatlantic flight customer on its service to Florida, on flight EI 121 from Dublin
to Orlando.
Summer 2023 has seen Aer Lingus operate its largest-ever schedule, with over 2.25 million seats to North America on sale across 19 direct routes from its UK base in Manchester, Dublin and Shannon. These routes include the addition of the new direct service to Cleveland, Ohio which was added to the carrier’s network in May.
This winter the airline will restart flights to Miami from Dublin on 28th October and to Barbados direct from Manchester on 1st November.
Aer Lingus will continue to expand in 2024, with new direct services to Denver, Colorado and Minneapolis-St. Paul, bringing the total number of Aer Lingus routes operating between Europe and North America to 21.
If Only has relocated its head office to a new location in Glasgow city centre.
Now based at 10 Bothwell Street, the new office space is more open plan with break out areas and a bespoke design that the firm says is “more in-keeping with the If Only brand and company ethos.”
