Sample 1:
It was a blistering afternoon and the SKKB football team was having its weekly football
practice. The boys were about to represent Setiu in the upcoming inter-district football tournament
in Kuala Terengganu.
As everybody was preoccupied with the game, Wan Said gave a hard kick as he tried to kick
the ball into the opposing team’s goal. The kick was so forceful that the ball flew over the school fence.
It whizzed through the air and across the road. The boys jeered as it was a pain to have to stop the
game to retrieve the ball.
However, in the next second, they were confronted by a sight to behold. The ball had hit a car
across the road and had knocked off one of its headlamps. People around quickly steered clear of the
area. All the boys gaped in shock to see the broken lamp. Standing next to the car was a grumpy old
man. Wan Said realized the gravity of his mistake and felt extremely ashamed of himself. He
apologized profusely to the man. From then on, Wan Said made sure that he remained aware of his
surroundings no matter how excited or carried away he might be.
Sample 2:
Ibrahim is a diligent boy. He studies at SK Kampung Buloh. He lives in a small dilapidated
wooden house, just outside Permaisuri Town. He lost both his parents in a car crash in 2012 and lives
with his grandparents ever since.
Ibrahim’s grandparents were rubber-tappers. As his family was poor, he had to walk to school
every day. Whenever he had free time, he would revise his lessons and study hard. Some of his friends
called him a bookworm. He wished to further his studies in a boarding school. He wanted to pursue
his dream of becoming a teacher.
Ibrahim’s hard work finally paid off. He proudly received the Best Pupil Award from his
headmaster, Encik Luzi after scoring 6As in the UPSR examination last year. He always believes that,
‘where there’s a will there’s a way.’
Sample 3:
It was a fine Saturday evening. Azizan was doing revision in his room when he saw a house
was on blaze. Without further delay, he ran towards the burning house to give a helping hand.
Upon arrival, Azizan saw many people outside the house. Some of them were pouring pails of
water on the fire while the others were throwing sand and dust. The children were crying and
screaming in terror as they were surrounded by the scorching flames. The fire was fast spreading. It
was a pitiable scene.
In the meanwhile, there came a fire brigade. The firefighters did their best to put out the
raging fire. The fire did a great damage to the house but thank God, there was no loss of human life.
All victims were immediately rushed to the hospital in a precarious condition.
A fire officer thanked Azizan for his prompt action.
Sample 4:
It was a nice Saturday evening. Ahmad was doing revision in his room when he heard a strange
grinding noise coming from the next door. Out of curiosity, he looked out of the window.
Ahmad was shocked to see a person with dark clothes was roaming his neighbour's house with
a huge bag. Ahmad could not make out if it was a female or male intruder but he was certain that it
was a burglary in progress.
Ahmad tried to keep a cool head. He dashed for the phone to report the crime. He gave the
police some details they had asked for and he waited for the police to arrive. It was a good thing that
the police station was just a stone's throw away from his house.
When the burglar had accomplished the task of stealing almost every valuable thing in sight, the
police barged into the house. The burglar was arrested, thanks to Ahmad's help in crime watching.
Sample 5:
Last school holidays, Muhardi and his family visited his grandfather in Paka. They set off at 8.00
a.m. and reached there three hours later.
Muhardi's grandfather was very happy to see them. He cooked nasi lemak and spicy fried
chicken. They had lunch together at the verandah. They spent the rest of the day sharing stories while
cleaning the backyard.
The next day, Muhardi's grandfather took him to the river nearby. His grandfather taught him
fishing. He was very proud of Muhardi because his grandchild managed to catch some big fish.
After two days, Muhardi and his family returned to Permaisuri. Although he felt very sad to leave
his grandfather, he was grateful to be able to spend some quality time with him.
Sample 6:
It was a semester break. Said woke up at the crack of dawn and headed for Azizan’s house.
The boys had agreed to go for a swim. Although they were all strong swimmers, Said’s mother had
cautioned him against going for a swim. A week earlier, their neighbour's son had nearly drowned in
that river.
“Splash!” Said and Azizan dived off the rock into the inviting river. The boys plunged in
together, screaming in delight. Everything was fine until they noticed a layer of oil spreading on the
water surface. Said knew the waters in the area well as he often swam there. He convinced Azizan
that there was nothing to worry about.
Fully contented after the perfect swim, Said and Azizan headed home under the glare of the
blazing hot afternoon. Without any warning, they felt an itchy sensation all over their bodies. Pausing
for a moment, with one hand on the wall to steady them, they used another to scratch. Some rashes
started to break out on their skin. Something was not right.
The next day, Said and Azizan went back to the river to investigate. They were shocked to see
huge piles of dead fish floating on the water surface. Said dashed for the phone to report the incident.
Shortly afterwards, police arrested three suspects. They were then brought to the police station for
further investigation.
Sample 7:
It was a quiet and sweltering night when Rapani’s parents were not at home. So, he decided
to hit the sack early. Two burglars armed with knives sneaked into his house. They tip-toed to his
parents’ room to scour for the valuables.
Rapani was awakened by the noise, so he went to check it out. The burglars tied him up when
they saw him. Rapani tried to shout for help but the burglars threatened to beat him up. Rapani was
so frightened that he trembled in fear.
When Rapani’s parents came home, they were startled to see what had happened to their
son. They immediately released Rapani and lodged a police report. The police advised Rapani to be
more vigilant and alert in the future.

Sample 8:
Puan Haninah uses a quiet shortcut to go to the market every day because it is more convenient.
On the fateful morning, she was unaware that she had been followed by two men. They rode on a
motorcycle waiting to strike.
When the men saw no one was there, they sped past her and snatched away her handbag. In a
panic, Puan Haninah struggled but was pushed to the ground. She then screamed loudly for help.
Puan Haninah’s scream alerted the policemen nearby. When the police arrived, the snatch
thieves had taken to their heels. Puan Haninah was petrified. The policemen recorded her statement
and sent her home. Two days later, the police arrested the culprits and retrieved her belongings.

Sample 9:
Last Saturday, the pupils of 6 IK went on an excursion to an old folk’s home. On the respective
day, all participants gathered at the school compound. Overwhelmed with joy, they chatted merrily
as they boarded the bus. They set off at 8.00 a.m. and reached there thirty minutes later.
Upon entering the folks’ home, the pupils immediately began chatting with the elderly as the
minutes ticked by. Later, after a short briefing, they started to clean the surrounding of the home. The
pupils were divided into several groups headed by selected teachers. Each group was assigned a task
and stationed at a designated place.
It was a very moving experience with the residents of the old folks’ home. As the pupils departed
the old folks’ home reluctantly, they waved and shouted hearty goodbyes to its residents. They had a
memorable experience, one which taught them compassion and empathy.
Sample 10:
Last weekend, Azizan planned to pay his friend a visit. He arrived at the Machang Railway
Station at 7.00 a.m. to catch the 7.30 express train to Tumpat. There was a big crowd rushing to the
ticketing counter to buy tickets. Fortunately, he had bought his earlier, so he went straight to the
platform.
The train finally arrived and the passengers scrambled into the coach to get a seat. Azizan was
unlucky as there was no vacant seat left for him. So, he remained standing together with other
travellers. Thirty minutes later, there was a jerk and the train came to a halt on the next station. Many
passengers disembarked the train hastily.
Suddenly, something caught Azizan’s eyes. There was a wallet lying on a seat. He opened it to
look for a hint to the owner. He got off the train and rushed to the guy he presumed to be the owner
of the wallet. The guy thanked Azizan abundantly and praised Azizan for his honesty.
Sample 11:
Last weekend, Mastura and her family attended a wedding ceremony in Kelantan. They set off
at 10.00 a.m. and reached there two hours later.
Upon arrival, Mastura's uncle and his wife welcomed them warmly. There were many people
sitting under the beautifully decorated canopies. Everyone looked lovely in their traditional clothes.
A lot of mouth-watering food were served at the buffet table. They looked tasty and tantalizing.
After enjoying the scrumptious food, Mastura and her parents greeted the groom and the
bride. Mastura congratulated them for their wonderful wedding. Then, she thanked both her uncle
and aunt for inviting them. They received a door gift as a token of appreciation.
Sample 12:
Last Saturday, SK Kampung Buloh held a gotong-royong in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
All teachers and pupils were asked to gather at the assembly hall early in the morning. The
headmaster, Encik Luzi gave a short briefing and divided the pupils into several groups headed by
selected teachers. Each group was assigned a task and stationed at a designated place.
Amin and his group were assigned to clear the clogged drains and clean the unoccupied rooms
in the school. The boys cut the grass and trimmed the bushes while the girls took the responsibility to
wipe the dirty windowpanes in the rooms. They collected the unused bottles, cans, twigs and dried
leaves at one place before throwing them at the disposal area.
By the time the gotong-royong ended, some of the pupils were worn out but the school was
spick and span. Everyone gathered at the school canteen for the scrumptious refreshments provided
by the teachers. They made a pledge to have gotong-royong every month to keep their school clean.
Sample 13:
Last Saturday was Aminah's twelfth birthday. She had a small party at her house. Her friends
came over to celebrate the glorious day with her.
Aminah was as happy as a clam when she proudly received a smartphone from her parents.
Aminah was immensely active on social media and she uploaded her personal pictures and videos on
it almost every day. She was unaware that someone was keeping tab on her and planning to pose a
serious threat to harm her.
Feeling aggrieved and threatened, Aminah informed her parents about the menace. They lodged
a police report at once. A couple of days later, the police managed to track down the cyberbully. He
was (handcuffed/ detained) and brought to the police station for further investigation. Aminah was
regretful and promised her parents to be more careful in the future.
Sample 14:
Last weekend, a gotong-royong was held in Taman Manggis to clean up the surrounding from
possible aedes breeding. All residents turned up as early as 8.00 a.m. and swung into action within
minutes.
All participants were briefed on what to do by the community leader. Later that morning, they
were divided into several groups headed by selected people. Each group was assigned a task and
stationed at a designated place.
The gotong-royong ended at two in the afternoon. By this time, the housing estate looked
amazingly spick and span from end to end. Everyone was delighted and made a pledge to have gotong-
royong once in a month.
Sample 15:
It was a Sunday morning. The school bell rang signifying the start of the thirty-minute recess
period. The canteen was noisy and packed. Many pupils were frantically pushing and shoving to get
their food. As usual, there were prefects around to control the pupils and make sure they were orderly
and moved quickly.
Jang was standing in queue waiting to buy a plate of fried rice when suddenly a big-sized pupil
squeezed past him. Jang politely told the boy to go to the rear but the boy pushed him to the ground
and threatened to punch him. A few prefects who saw the incident tried to stop the bully but he just
pushed them aside.
Without further delay, one of the prefects rushed to get the headmaster and reported the
incident. The bully was scolded and given a stern warning. He was regretful and apologized to Jang.
Sample 16:
Last weekend, Mr Ong and his family went to Tanjung Damai Beach. When they arrived at the
beach, they could see many people. They looked for a suitable spot to spread a mat and ended up in
the shade of a big shady tree.
In double-quick time, Mr Ong and his children, Diana and John enjoyed themselves in the sea.
Everyone did except Mrs Ong. She just sat on the mat watching them from afar. After thirty minutes
or so, they got out of the sea for a while as the water was getting increasingly hot.
Later that afternoon, Mr Ong heard her wife calling them for lunch. Diana and John who were
busy building the sandcastles ran to their mother and helped themselves to the scrumptious food she
had brought. At noon, they packed everything in the car and went back home to Permaisuri.
Sample 17:
One bright afternoon, Arsyad and his friends, Dadis and Rapani were on their way home from
school. They decided to drop by a food stall not far from their housing estate.
The savoury aroma from the stall tantalised Arsyad’s senses and his mouth watered
uncontrollably. Without a second thought about the dirty and unhygienic conditions of the stall, they
ordered a large bowl of curry laksa. They gobbled it down like there was no tomorrow.
Later at home, Arsyad started to feel some discomfort. He wondered why his stomach hurt
and then suddenly began to vomit. He was immediately rushed to the hospital in a precarious
condition. Arsyad apologised ruefully to his parents for being so irresponsible and promised not to
buy food from that stall again.
Sample 18:
Last Saturday, the scouts of SKKB went on a camping trip to Bukit Keluang. They set off at 8.00
a.m. and reached there two hours later.
Upon arrival, all campers alighted from the bus and hiked through the forest to the campsite
which was about 200 metres away. On the site, they were divided into several patrols. Patrol 1 was
tasked with pitching the tents while Patrol 2 and Patrol 3 were assigned to prepare lunch and collect
firewood respectively.
After having lunch, all campers went jungle trekking. They were captivated by the stunning
view of nature. Apart from the footsteps, all they could hear were the rustling of leaves and birds
singing. Everything was so calm and peaceful.
Later that night, all campers sat around the campfire sharing stories and songs. They
strummed the guitars and sang happily. It was a memorable experience for them.
Sample 19:
Encik Harun and his family were having their lunch at a restaurant in town. There were many
people in the restaurant. While eating, they shared some stories about their day.
Suddenly, Encik Harun heard a deafening bang. A car skidded on the wet road and overturned
several times before ramming into a tree. Without further ado, he rushed to the scene to give a helping
hand. The driver, an old man, lay lifeless on the steering wheel. He bled profusely from the head and
hands.
In the meanwhile, there came an ambulance and a police car. Two policemen took down
statements from eye-witnesses. The victim was whisked away to the nearest hospital. As for Encik
Harun, it was a moment he would never forget in his entire life.
Sample 20:
Izhar is a very forgetful boy. He loves watching television and often forgets to do his chores.
One afternoon, Izhar was busy watching television when his mother, Puan Aziyah walked past
him. She was going to the grocery to stock up on their food and household supplies. She also reminded
Izhar of his tuition classes before she went out. Izhar did not pay so much attention on it as he was
preoccupied with his favourite cartoon show.
Toward 3.00 o’clock, having finished her grocery shopping, Puan Aziyah returned home. She
found that Izhar was still slouching on the sofa. She completely lost her temper and scolded Izhar for
his irresponsible behaviour. Izhar apologised ruefully to his mother and promised to never repeat the
mistake.
Sample 21:
It was a nice Sunday evening. Anisa was busy helping her mother in the kitchen. They decided
to prepare a chicken roast for dinner.
After Anisa and her mother finished cooking, all the dishes were put on the table. The family
sat at the dinner table together to enjoy the deliciously prepared meal and talked about the events of
their day. They always believe that making time to spend eating meals with the entire family creates
a well-rounded household.
Later that evening, Anisa and her family settled in on the sofa while enjoying their favourite
shows on television. It was indeed a nice respite after a hectic day at school.
