Our Worship: a note of Explanation
The Eucharist has always been the central
act of Christian worship. It is celebrated
in obedience to Jesus' command at the
Last Supper: "Do this in remembrance of
me".
Within our worship we seek to express
our praise for God through words,
colour, ritual actions and silence, which
allow us to be touched by the mystery
and beauty of God present in Word, in
Sacrament and in one another.
There are four parts to the eucharist:
1. The Gathering
We come as individuals and gather in this
building to become the church, the
people of God. This begins with the
greeting, the general confession and
concludes with the collect, or opening
prayer.
2. The Liturgy of the Word
God speaks to us through the bible
readings and the homily. The high point
of this part of our worship is the
proclamation of the Gospel. We respond coming to worship.
by affirming our faith in the creed and
prayers of intercession. This leads us into: Lord, open your word to
our hearts and our hearts
