Lesson 1: Getting Started With MT4

This tutorial will show you how to get started with the ‘Meta Trader’ Trading Platform
- known as MT4. When you launch the MT4 application for the first time, the login
window will appear.

Make sure that you are using your account number login details sent to you by
e-mail. Enter your password in the password box; remember that the password is
case sensitive.
Next, check that the correct server is being used: real for real accounts or demo for
demo accounts. If you already have a live trading account, ensure that you select
real server. The number of your real server can be seen on your registration e-mail.

To save time in future, leave the ‘save account information’ box ticked and MT4
will store your data to log you in automatically next time. Once the platform is
launched, you will see 3 basic window panels: the top left side comprises a Market
Watch Panel which displays the live prices and symbols of all the trading
instruments available at your broker.

In the center of the screen is the chart window which displays in graph form, the
historical prices, indicators and other useful tools. At the bottom, you can see the
terminal window panel showing your active, pending and closed trades. This is
also the panel where you can use the journal tab to configure alerts and monitor the
platform.
