Preface to the Ordinal IT is evident unto all men, diligently reading Holy Scripture and ancient Authors, that from the Apostles' time there have been these Orders of Ministers in Christ's Church, --Bishops, Priests, and Deacons. Which Offices were evermore had in such reverend estimation, that no man might presume to execute any of them, except he were first called, tried, examined, and known to have such qualities as are requisite for the same; and also by public Prayer, with Imposition of Hands, were approved and admitted thereunto by lawful Authority. And therefore, to the intent that these Orders may be continued, and reverently used and esteemed in this Church, no man shall be accounted or taken to be a lawful Bishop, Priest, or Deacon, in this Church, or suffered to execute any of the said Functions, except he be called, tried, examined, and admitted thereunto, according to the Form hereafter following, or hath had Episcopal Consecration or Ordination. And the Bishop, knowing either by himself, or by sufficient testimony, any Person to be a man of virtuous conversation, and without crime, and, after examination and trial, finding him sufficiently instructed in the Holy Scripture, and otherwise learned as the Canons require, may, at the times appointed, or else, on urgent occasion, upon some other day, in the face of the Church, admit him a Pastor, in such manner and form as followeth. ╬╬╬

The Ministry of the Word (All are seated while the Old Record is read.) A Lesson from the Hebrew Scriptures Isaiah 61:1-8 Lector: Pastor Wilma Mathis Manifested Vision Ministries, Inc. Boston, Massachusetts The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations. And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers. But ye shall be named the Priests of the Lord: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves. For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore, in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them. For I the Lord love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. Lector: This is the Word of the Lord People: “Thanks Be to God.” A Lesson from the Epistles 1 Peter 5:1-4 Lector: Pastor Tyrone Chase Everyday People, Extraordinary God Boston, Massachusetts The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. The people stand to sing: The Hymn: “TO GOD BE THE GLORY” A Lesson from the Gospels Matthew 20:25-28 Gospeler: Pastor Kenneth Eley Rehoboth Deliverance Worship Center Stoughton, Massachusetts The People remain standing as the lector says: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. Matthew
People: “Glory to you, Lord Christ.” But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. After the reading of the Gospel the lector says: This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ People: “Praise to you, Lord Christ.” The Proffer Finance Committee The Presentation of the Homilist Pastor Brandon Marshall Quarles The Citadel of Glory Raleigh, North Carolina Sermonic Selection Elder Tawanna Johnson Kingdom Movement Church Quincy, Massachusetts The Homily The Right Reverend James Bryant Smith, Ph.D. The Fourth Episcopal Diocesan Bishop Beth-El Churches of Christ, Inc. Baltimore, Maryland Choral Selection The Nation of Kingdom Impact Nation, Boston, Massachusetts The Charge The examination shall be given by the Chief Consecrator, Bishop James Bryant Smith. Pastor-Elect Ayeisha Mathis will stand and face the Bishop to hear the episcopal charge as it is given. Covenant of Installation The Pastoral Statement The Bishop: You have heard, my brother, in your private examination as well as in the exhortation, which was just made to you, and in the writings of the Apostles, of what dignity and of how great importance this office is, whereunto you are now called. And now again we exhort you in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord that you have in remembrance how high a dignity and how weighty an office you are called;
that is to say to be a messenger watchman and steward of the lord’s family; to seek for Christ’s sheep that are scattered abroad, as for his children who are in the midst of this evil world, that they may be saved through Christ forever. Forasmuch then as your office is of both great excellency, and of great difficulty, you see how great care and study you ought to apply yourself. And seeing that you cannot by any other means compass the doing of so weighty a work pertaining to the salvation of man, but with prayer, doctrine, and exhortation takes out of the Holy Scriptures, and with a life aggregable to the same; consider now how studious you ought to be in reading and leaning the Holy Scriptures that you feed the flock of God over whom you are now being given the oversight. The Examination Pastor-Elect Ayeisha Mathis will continue to stand and face the Bishop for the examination. The Pastor-Elect’s Commitment The Bishop: Do you reaffirm your confession of faith, baptism, and give yourself as a follower of Jesus? Pastor-Elect: I do. The Bishop: Do you reaffirm your ordination vows and promise to live your ministry in accordance with the teachings of Jesus? Do you accept the responsibilities of Pastor to which you have been called? Pastor-Elect: With the guidance and help of God, I do. The Bishop: Because of the relationship that must exist between the ministers of the church, do you reaffirm your ordination vows and calling as a minister of the congregation of Kingdom Impact Nation Pastor-Elect: I do. The Bishop: As Pastor, will you encourage and support all baptized people in their gifts and ministries, nourish them for the riches of God’s grace, pray for them without ceasing, and celebrate with them the Sacraments of our Redemption? Pastor-Elect: I will in the name of Jesus Christ. The Bishop: Will you be ready with all diligence to banish and drive away all erroneous and strange doctrines contrary to god’s word and to use both public and private admonishment and exhortations as well to the sick and to those within your charge as need shall require an occasion shall be given? Pastor-Elect: I will endeavor so to do, the Lord being my help.
The Prayer of Consecration Oil will be poured upon the head of Pastor-Elect Ayeisha Mathis as she kneels before the Diocesan Bishop and Clergy. The Diocesan Bishop will read the following statement and then offer the prayer of consecration. The Bishop: Eternal One, hear the vows we have made to one another this day. Strengthen us to carry out the work laid before us. Gather the varied fibers of our being and weave us into a living tapestry of loving service and justice. The Investiture The new Pastor will now be vested according to the order of Pastors. The Bible Presented by opening it to the Gospels and placing it upon the head of the Pastor-Elect with these words: “Receive the Holy Scriptures. Feed the flock of Christ committed to your charge, guard and defend them in His truth and be a faithful steward of His Holy Word and Sacraments.” The Chasuble The Chasuble is presented with these words: “Receive this chasuble, symbolizing the covering you have received by baptism in Christ as testimonial of your fellowship with the Apostles. The Cross The Cross is presented with these words: “Receive this cross as a sign of our Lord’s triumph and the banner of our salvation. Be one with the Apostles in proclaiming Christ’s resurrection and His sovereignty as Lord and Savior.” The Declaration of Installation The Declaration of Installation shall be given by the Chief Consecrator, Bishop James Bryant Smith The Bishop: In the name of Jesus Christ, we declare you properly installed as Pastor of Kingdom Impact Nation, and we commend you to the grace of God in the discharge of your duties as a minister of the gospel.
