Candlelight Memorial Service MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, INC. Candlelight Service Greeting …………………………………………………………………………… Debora W. Savoy, ’82 2nd Vice President, MSUAA Hope looks for the good in people instead of harping on the worst in them. Hope opens doors where despair closes them. Hope discovers what can be done instead of grumbling about what cannot. Hope draws its power on a deep trust in God and the basic goodness of humankind. Hope lights a candle instead of cursing the darkness. Hope regards problems, small or large, as opportunities. Hope cherishes no illusions, nor does it yield to cynicism. We gather to worship the God of Hope. THE PEOPLE GATHER … Call to Worship ……………………………………………………………… Gloria B. Wayman, ’90 Leader: God’s wisdom is pure, peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without uncertainty or insincerity. Response: Our wisdom is none of these things. We compete for knowledge, and our learning fosters belligerence. Our understanding is insufficient and our compassion is limited. We long for certainty and sacrifice too much for its sake. We strive for conditional sincerity. Leader: The harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. Response: We do not fully comprehend God’s wisdom or achieve God’s righteousness, but we come together to share insight, read Scripture, sing, pray, and make peace. Unison: Let us worship together. Invocation ……………………………………………………………… Minister Clarence A. Wayman Assistant Director, MSU Memorial Chapel Words of Welcome ….....………………………………………………… Mrs. Phyllis C. Davis, ’82 Immediate Past President, MSUAA
Candlelight Memorial Service MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, INC. Prayer of Confession (to be read in Unison) O God, you search after us when we have gone far from you, yet we confess that we have become consumed with our own affairs. We seldom pause to listen for the wind in the trees of hear the happy voices of children. Sometimes we feel that the burdens of the world fall entirely on our shoulders, and we have been slow to put our trust in you or to cooperate with others. When we take ourselves too seriously, remind us that we are only human! Make us patient with our mistakes, even as we are willing to forgive others. And remind us that we are also precious, not because we are good but because you have accepted us and called us to be your very own. Amen. The Coming of the Lord 13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 timeprinters.com
