APRIL 13-16, 2023 3 3 My Beloved Sisters in Christ: “Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.” WELCOME to Queen Esther Ministries 24th Annual Women’s Retreat! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to spend some quality time with God and with other women. I am so delighted that you are here and I know that God has something special in store for you. The theme that the Lord has chosen for this retreat is “BE HOLY!” 1 Peter 1:15-16 says, 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. God is calling His people back to the basics – back to holiness! We need to know who God really is and who we are in relation to Him. If we depart from the truth found in the Bible, there will be a lack of holiness in our lives and the lives of other believers. During these next few days, we are intentionally going to examine and allow the power of God to purge out any and everything that is not like Him! God’s requirement for each of His children is to BE HOLY as He is holy. Although we might think of holiness as actions we take on the outside, it actually begins from within the heart of a person as they encounter and follow Jesus. What is true today was also true thousands of years ago. We are “CALLED TO HOLINESS”. Are you ready and willing to answer the call? It is my sincere hope and prayer that each of you will be inspired and encouraged by the information you receive and the sessions you attend. It is our desire to equip you with the Word of God to prepare you for the purpose in which God has created you. Please do whatever it takes for you to answer the call to “BE HOLY”! Again, ‘WELCOME’ and may God saturate you with His power and His anointing on this retreat! In the Kingdom for such a time as this, Pastor Esther K. Faulkner Pastor Esther K. Faulkner Greetings & Welcome from Pastor Esther K. Faulkner Greetings & Welcome from Pastor Esther K. Faulkner

APRIL 13-16, 2023 6 6 aside time on Saturday mornings gave retreatants the opportunity to encounter God in a quiet, sober, contemplative, soul searching, and prayerful manner. Bishop Monroe R. Saunders, Sr. described the Retreat Experience as a propitious, sacred event that every serious saint should avail herself or himself the time to partake. The Retreat Experience, as molded by its leader, invited retreatants to sit quietly and bask in God’s presence. It invited God “seekers” to concentrate on God’s holiness and righteousness. It encouraged self-examination and intense thought about life’s true purpose. The Deeper Life Retreat founded in the 1960’s under the ardent guidance of our late Pastor, Bishop Monroe R. Saunders, Sr., expanded from a small Saturday morning gathering of a few famished, yearning pursuers of God to a sizeable community of men and women who longed for continuous communion and fellowship with God. In the mid 1970’s, Chief Apostle Monroe R. Saunders, Sr. bequeathed the Retreat Ministry to his precious, pure wife, Elect-Lady Alberta B. Saunders, who at the time, had undergone a personal, spiritual reformation. Her intimate, spiritual journey with God, coupled with her husband’s retreat vision, prepared her to carve out a Retreat Ministry for women. Her Retreat Ministry, often labeled as a Hospital Birthing Suite, over which she is the chief midwife, has been responsible for birthing new babes in Christ and assisting women who are pregnant with the Holy Ghost to push until the Holy Ghost comes forth. She has helped women to be supernaturally delivered from addictions, negative, unproductive behaviors, and spiritual death. Our deceased Retreat Ministry visionary, Chief Apostle Monroe R. Saunders, Sr., foresaw the need for God’s people to set aside an appointed time and place to gather for the sole purpose of probing the heights and depths of God in spirit and in truth. He wanted congregants to have the experience of hearing God’s still, small voice. Chief Apostle, Dr. Monroe R. Saunders, Sr., the progenitor of the United Church of Jesus Christ, Apostolic, apprehended the revelation of Retreat Ministry during his nascent years as pastor of The First United Church of Jesus Christ, Apostolic located in Baltimore, Maryland. During the peak of the charismatic revival that illuminated the ministry, Pastor Saunders started The Deeper Life Retreat Ministry, a Saturday morning gathering of sincere believers who assembled themselves for prayer and teachings about how to develop a closer walk with the Lord in every aspect of one’s life. This set

APRIL 13-16, 2023 7 7 He encouraged retreatants to withdraw from earthly concerns for a few moments in order to fully consecrate, purify, and sanctify themselves. He inspired people from all walks of life to strive for a Christian existence that embodies love, humility and obedience to God’s word. The Retreat mantle of Chief Apostle Monroe R. Saunders, Sr. and Elect-Lady Alberta B. Saunders has been conferred upon their beloved daughter, Pastor Esther Faulkner, the founder and leader of Queen Esther Ministries. Pastor Faulkner’s calling into Retreat Ministry has been mandated by the Holy Ghost. In April 2022, the clarion call of this retreat is “Touch the Hem!” On the 24th Anniversary of Queen Esther Ministries Retreat, we must honor our Chief Apostle, Dr. Monroe R. Saunders, Sr., and Elect Lady, Mother Alberta Brockington Saunders who are residing in the presence of the Lord. Their deeper life journey and holy living permeated their character and their love for God’s people and love for Retreat ministry was truly genuine. We salute God’s servants for cultivating a Christian life that we all can emulate; a life that was a portrait of real, honorable, faithful servants of God until they were summoned home. Dear God, Queen Esther Ministries sincerely thanks Chief Apostle Monroe R. Saunders, Sr., D.Min., & Elect Lady Mother Alberta Brockington Saunders, Your servants who ignited the flame for this Retreat Ministry over 45 years ago. Help us to continue to get to know You intimately so that our vessels will be honorable and holy. The Deeper Life Retreat Gems printed in this program have been excerpted from some of Chief Apostle’s retreat messages, notes, journals, and sermons. As you spend your quality time with God this weekend, let these anointed words penetrate your spirit. You will leave this retreat as a “renewed creature” in Christ Jesus.

APRIL 13-16, 2023 8 Retreat Gems * Retreat is a precious encounter not to be taken lightly. * Retreat at your own risk, but if you really retreat, don’t expect to stay the same. * Retreat is the launching pad. Practicing the Word of God keeps you in orbit. * If you come to retreat all right, you will leave better. If you come all ready, you will leave fulfilled. * Nothing is impossible with God. Prove it this weekend. * Bring me to contrition, O God! * For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, And floods upon the dry ground… (Isaiah 44:3)

APRIL 13-16, 2023 9 9 Retreat is. . . The Pathway to the Heart of God Ø A time to be alone with God and have a one-to-One encounter with Him (Mark 6:31) Those that will not come apart, will come a part. Ø A special opportunity to slow down your pace and enjoy unhurried fellowship and communion with God (Luke 10:38-42) Martha wanted to serve the Lord; Mary wanted to enjoy Him. Ø A time to be “transparent” before God and let Him search you by the power of His Holy Spirit (Psalm 139:23-24) Expose yourself to the X-ray of God’s love. “Lord, if you’ll show me, I’ll change it.” Bare your soul; remove the masks. Ø A life-changing experience if you are open to God’s will for your life and willing to let Him “mold you after His will” (Jeremiah 18:6) You put yourself in the Potter’s hands and let Him at His own discretion put you on the wheel or in the fire as often as He sees fit. We have to release our will. Ø A time for inner healing and deliverance from spiritual bondage (Isaiah 61:1-3; Luke 4:18-19; John 8:36) Christ has come to set all men free and we need only to accept our freedom! “I’ve come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.” Ø A time of great outpouring of God’s Spirit!! (Isaiah 44:3; Matthew 5:6; James 4:8; Psalm 22:3) Praises draw God like a magnet. God cannot stand to see a hungry spirit – He rushes to fill it. Ø A time to worship God corporately and individually in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24) “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.”

APRIL 13-16, 2023 10 Retreat is. . . The Pathway to the Heart of God WHY * to rest, be renewed and receive (Mark 6:31; Isaiah 30:15) Your spirit, mind and body need rest so that you may be restored, renewed and regenerated. HOW * through repenting and forsaking of sin (Romans 6:1; Isaiah 55:7-10; Psalm 51:17) * by emptying out; laying aside; and “putting off the old man and his deeds” (1 John 1:9; Hebrews 12:1; Ephesians 4:22; Luke 5:37-38) * through Silence, Stillness, Solitude, Meditation and Quietness (Psalm 46:10; Mark 1:35; Isaiah 30:7, 15; Joshua 1:8; Habakkuk 2:20) Be Still and Know . . . WHO * the invitation is open to all who desire to find the pathway to the heart of God (Psalm 16:11; 34:11; Matthew 5:6) Those who hunger and thirst; Those who fear the Lord. WHEN * whenever the opportunity is available to you * as often as you need to * Retreat daily (Ephesians 4:23-24; 6:11; John 8:31; 15:9; Titus 3:5; Acts 14:22) Learn how to continue the retreat experience and to incorporate the dynamics of retreat into your daily walk with Christ. Continue to be renewed in your mind, restored in your soul, and regenerated by the Word.

APRIL 13-16, 2023 16 16 DR. MARIE E. BRICE-HAWKINS DR. MARIE E. BRICE-HAWKINS Dr. Marie Brice-Hawkins, called to minister globally to the body of Christ, is the Pastor and Founder of the Pentecostal Church of Deliverance in Baltimore, Maryland. Obedient to a vision granted to her by God, she is the Establishmentarian and General Overseer of several churches. Pastor Brice-Hawkins, a native of Anne Arundel County Maryland, met her former husband, Deacon Elmore Brice at a very young age. Though very young, they were married when the right time came. Nine children were born out of this beautiful union. Her husband, Deacon Elmore Brice, was her soul mate for 51 years. He was an entrepreneur and he owned and operated his own business. He was Dr. Brice’s greatest supporter of her ministry since the day she became Pastor. God saw fit to take him home in 2009. Seven and a half years later, Pastor Brice-Hawkins met and married Elder Dalton Hawkins, a navy veteran. He was a member of the Way Back to Pentecost Church of the Apostolic Faith located in Baltimore, MD and Washington DC where Bishop Henry L. Sanders was the Pastor. In 1969 Pastor Brice-Hawkins received the gift of the Holy Ghost under the leadership of the Late Elder Shadrick Tyler from the Bibleway Churches Worldwide. In 1970, because of an unfortunate crisis in the church, she was later led to the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ under the leadership of the Late Bishop Louis Walker who was a member of the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith, Incorporated. It was there that she developed in the foundational teaching of the Apostolic Doctrine. She later obtained licenses under the P.C.A.F. and P.A.W. organizations. Dr. Brice-Hawkins received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religious Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, and she attended Saint Mary’s Seminary and the University of Maryland. Because of all the accomplishments Dr. Brice-Hawkins has achieved in ministry, the Canon Bible Institute in Orlando, Florida bestowed upon her an Honorary Doctorate Degree in 2002. Great ministries have been birthed out of the preaching and teaching ministry of this great woman of God. Commissioned to excel within the kingdom, Dr. Brice-Hawkins was called by God to pastor in 1979. God placed on her a mantle of great faith, healing and dedicated prayer. The day and night prayer caused a rapid growth in the ministry resulting in church building and expansion. In 2012 many challenges had taken place along with tremendous economic pressures producing a significant shortage of cash flow in operating our 37,000 square foot building, with many departments and administrators. Dr. Brice-Hawkins consulted the Lord for direction and when God gave her the answer, she called her staff together and they agreed with her to sell the 37,000 square foot building. The transaction was miraculously wrought by God. The visionary leader God called, successfully relocated the ministry, debt free, no burdens, and no strings attached. Though often presented with various difficulties, the Pentecostal Church of Deliverance has continued to move forward with a vision filled with hope and determination to fulfill the task God has given to the church. Through it all, Pastor Brice-Hawkins has shown great strength and courage and has been a great example to her congregation and to all who follow her ministry. We really love our pastor, and through the many prayers of the saints, she has recovered from the deep pain of losing her husband. Dr. Brice-Hawkins has preached as far away as Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory in West Africa, in the region of Onitsha in Nigeria, England, Trinidad and the West Indies. The Pentecostal Church of Deliverance holds a church and business charter in Trinidad, Tobago. May the blessings of the Lord be upon our Pastor, Dr. Marie Brice-Hawkins as she continues to excel within the Kingdom of God.

APRIL 13-16, 2023 APRIL 13-16, 2023 “WE HOLY” WORKSHOP Class Descriptions 23

APRIL 13-16, 2023 24 24 “SPIRITUAL DETOXIFICATION” The Chesapeake – Level 3 2 Corinthians 7:1 KJV 1 Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Psalms 51:7; 10 NLT 7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow… 10 Create in me a clean heart, oh God, renew a loyal spirit within me. 1 John 1:9 NLT 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. Detoxification means to remove a harmful substance such as a poison or a toxin or a drug or addictive substance. When the word detoxification is used in a spiritual context, the question is asked what negative destructive substances are hindering a person's desire to live a holy life. This workshop is an opportunity for women to identify their toxins and secret sins. Confess your sins and ask God to detoxify you from all unrighteousness. A pure heart, and a renewed spirit awaits you once you become detoxified.

APRIL 13-16, 2023 25 25 “CONFORM OR TRANSFORM: IT’S YOUR CHOICE” (The Pritchett - Level 1) 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God. So many people, including Christians, want to copy and be in agreement with current trends, or customs. Often identity is established or boasted by a woman's evaluation of her self-image through the lens of what her friends, family or neighbors are doing. Satisfaction with her own accomplishments is lacking because her achievements are not in accord with what everyone else is doing. Conformity is a hindrance to spiritual growth. Women, you must present your bodies “a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God.” Your desire should not be to follow the crowd or to do what everyone else is doing or saying. The call for this retreat is to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. The only person you should be conformed to is your Creator. Is your life holy, good and acceptable and in the perfect will of God?

APRIL 13-16, 2023 26 26 “SUBMITTING TO HIS WILL” (The Pritchett – Level 1) Psalm 143:10 ESV Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; Let your good spirit lead me on level ground. I John 2:17 NASB The world is passing away and also its lust; But the one who does the will of God lives forever. Psalm 40:8 ESV I delight to do your will, Oh my God, your law is within my heart. God has granted humans free will, the ability to decide or to act on their own behalf. Ladies can choose to control and plan every aspect of their lives or they can, on purpose, submit their lives to the will of God who desires his children to submit to his will. Do you wish to give Satan and evil forces control over your life? Are you living in rebellion to God's will? Leave this session with the words of this hymn in nominating your spirit. SWEET WILL OF GOD My stubborn will at last have yielded, I would be thine and thine alone; and this the prayer my lips are bringing, Lord, let in me thy will be done. Sweet will of God, still fold me closer; till I am wholly lost in thee. Sweet will of God, still fold me closer; Till I am wholly lost in thee.

APRIL 13-16, 2023 27 27 “FASHION POLICE” (Guistewite – Level 1) I Corinthians 6: 19-20 ESV 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body. I Peter 3:4 ESV 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious. When we hear the word fashion, today, we often think of the television program Project Runway or the red carpet fashions displayed by famous actors, especially beautiful, stylish women. The word police suggests the need for public order from a governing body; men and women appointed to make sure that rules are followed. Is anyone violating Christian fashion rules, and if so, who are the Christian woman’s Fashion Police? The discussion of this topic will bring a refreshing clarity to present concerns and discussion about fashion dress codes for holy women. Should there be a fashion dress code for holy women? Is there a need for holy Fashion Police?

APRIL 13-16, 2023 APRIL 13-16, 2023 THINK ON THESE THINGS 28

APRIL 13-16, 2023 29 “THE HOLY LIFE” Excerpts from “Sermons & Hymns from My Heart” by Bishop Monroe R. Saunders, Sr. Like obedient children, do not shape your life by the cravings which were formerly yours in the time of your ignorance, but in imitation of the Holy One who has called you, do you also be holy in all your behavior since it is written, You are to be holy because I am holy. Peter 1:14-16 (NKJV) In reference to the crucified life of a Christian, we may not like it, we may not accept it, but when we become Christians we are crucified with Christ. We are to be dead to sin, to lust, to lying, to pride, to self-ambition, to our own will. We are to be united with Christ in the likeness of his resurrection – we are to walk in the newness of life. ********** “Holiness is a lifestyle of God-consciousness and conscious living which leads to Godly character. There is no substitute for holiness.” – Bishop R.S. Faulkner, Faith Christian Center Church - Baltimore MD “Holiness is a mandate from God Himself. If we want to go to heaven we must “Be holy” here and now. It’s time to Raise the Standard of Holiness! ~ Pastor Esther K. Faulkner, Faith Christian Center Church -Baltimore MD “Holiness is intentional. If you are not intentional about being holy, you are wasting your time. You have to prepare to meet the Lord. God never intended for us to be anything but “Be Holy!” ~Pastor John D. Watts, Kingdom Life Church Apostolic - Baltimore MD “Holiness is a requirement of the Kingdom of God. As we live in these unprecedented times, we are surrounded and distracted by unholy lifestyles. This is a sign that the coming of the Lord is eminent.” Bishop Jermie McGregor, Grace Apostolic Deliverance Tabernacle – Kingston, Jamaica “The only way we can be holy is if we abide in Him. Holiness outside of Christ is not holiness.” – Pastor Winsome Powell, Church of Jesus Christ Ministries - St. Petersburg, FL 1 Thessalonians 4:7 (KJV) 7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. “It is God’s will that we live holy. Without holiness, no man shall see God!” Bishop Lloyd L. Faulknor, First United Tabernacle International Ministries, East Orange NJ “There can be no relationship with God without holiness. Holiness is not something that can be manufactured by the human mind. You can’t be holy without the Holy Ghost that comes from God Himself.” Bishop James D. Nelson, Sr., World Assemblies of Restoration, Baltimore MD “No matter how much education you have, no matter how well versed you are, 29

APRIL 13-16, 2023 30 30 it is nothing without the anointing of the Holy Ghost which enables you to live holy and operate in the spirit.” Bishop Robert E. Johnson, Sr., New Jerusalem Praise Tabernacle, Baltimore MD “You can’t live holy without a fresh dose of the Holy Ghost.” ~ Overseer Jacqueline F. Johnson, New Jerusalem Praise Tabernacle, Baltimore MD THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF HOLINESS From IMPERFECTLY HOLY: HOLINESS IS A PROCESS by R.C. Blakes, Jr. 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 King James Version 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place. This passage reveals three very important things concerning holiness. It reveals the responsibility we have as the people of God to the pursuit of holiness. It discloses some of the basic requirements to succeed in the process of holiness, and finally it unfolds the great global results of living for God. WE HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO REPRESENT GOD IN THE EARTH The passage in 2 Chronicles goes on to address certain basic requirements that every child of God must meet. The nature of God should be revealed to the world by our lifestyle. We are the physical representatives of God to the world. This is a part of what Jesus meant when he called us “the light of the world.” HOLINESS WILL REQUIRE TURNING YOUR BACK ON YOUR OLD WAY OF LIVING.

APRIL 13-16, 2023 31 31 Our base text in 2 Chronicles 7:14 goes on to say: “repent.” Repent does not merely mean to be sorry. It means to be sorry and to turn around and go in the opposite direction. When a person repents they go in a different direction. If you were supposed to be going west and happened to be heading east, it would not be enough to just be sorry that you were heading in the wrong direction. You would have to stop, turn around, and adjust your direction. The call to repent is the call to depart from any way that does not line up with God's will. LIVING THE HOLINESS LIFESTYLE REQUIRES REFUSING TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR FLESH The Bible gives great wisdom in this matter. It says in Romans 8:13-14 KJV ~ 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. The term mortify in this text is the Greek term thanatoo (than-at-o’-o). It means to kill, literally or figuratively. The greatest enemy we have working against the holiness process is our very own flesh nature. IT MUST BE PURPOSELY KILLED! WE MORTIFY (KILL) THE FLESH NATURE IN AT LEAST THREE SPECIFIC WAYS: #1 - REFUSE TO FEED THE FLESH WHAT IT LIKES. If you are going to begin the process of maximizing your holy potential you must REFUSE TO FEED THE FLESH WHAT IT LIKES. You can’t just keep on giving your flesh what it's craving for and think that you're going to transform your lifestyle. You can't conform and transform at the same time. You can't continue to give the flesh everything it reaches for and desires and think that that's going to lead to godliness. At some point you've got to make up your mind that I'm going to starve this flesh! #2 DON’T ALLOW YOUR FLESH TO HAVE AN OPINION We have to recognize the voice of our flesh when it is attempting to influence our behavior. We cannot entertain flesh at all. The word of God says, “For we are the circumcision, which worship God in spirit, and rejoice in Jesus Christ, and have no confidence in the flesh.” (Philippians 3:3) #3 STAY BUILT UP IN THE THINGS OF GOD If we are going to have the spiritual stamina to deny our flesh, we will have to have a strong spirit. This means that we have to gravitate to the things that make us strong spiritually. As Paul states in Galatians 5:16 “16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” HOLINESS WILL REQUIRE A CONSTANT HUNGER FOR GOD The 2 Chronicles 7:14 passage finally instructs us to "seek God's face." This speaks of developing an honest desire for an intimate fellowship with God. To seek God's face is to desire to really know him, not for what he can do, but for who He is. We will never come into holiness until we desire God more than anything else. This is why the Bible says, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." (Matthew 5:6) Finally, 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, when his people understand the responsibility to live for him and meet the basic requirements, the result would be the healing of the land. The healing of the land speaks of God moving upon the landscape and rectifying the many ailments that the withdrawal from God's ways has brought about. When men live like God commands, the blessings of God take over. When men disobey God's commands, curses persist. The scripture says: "If you be willing and obedient comma you shall eat the good of the land ." (Isaiah 1:19)

APRIL 13-16, 2023 32 32 Five Warning Signs You Are Veering Off the Narrow Road To Life BY DON IBBITSON Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:13-14 that the gate to destruction is wide and the road is broad. However, the gate to life (Him!) is small and the road to life is narrow. A narrow road to life is not incompatible in any way with God’s grace and mercy any more than staying on a mountain highway is restrictive! What are some warning lights that flash if we are veering off God’s road? The list below is compiled from some of the information we gather during our initial appointment with counselees who seek help in our Center: Not spending time in God’s word. The bible is, among other things, God’s playbook for life and we ignore it at great peril. Praying to God is good but not enough; that is typically a one-way conversation for many. The number one way God speaks to us is through His word. 1. Not in a good Spirit-filled, Bible-believing, Word-preaching church. Sorry, but watching your favorite tele-preacher/teacher is not enough. Really. We are sheep and sheep need to be in a (healthy) herd to survive and thrive. 2. Isolation/no accountability. Lone rangers are in great danger of being deceived. God speaks to us; our own flesh (mind) speaks to us and so does the demonic realm. Sometimes people need help to sort out the voices. Using the herd analogy again, watch a nature show and see who the herd of lions tries to attack? They don’t have much success on the main body but work to isolate an animal and then they gang up on it. Dinner is served… 3. No improper boundaries. APRIL 13-16, 2023 34 34 25 Core Characteristics of a Godly Woman The Bible has much to say on how to become more godly, and there are many specific passages that share how to do so as a holy woman of God. Here are 25 core characteristics that are found in godly women. #1 A Godly Woman Fears the Lord Proverbs 31:30 says…“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” Rather than focusing on outward beauty or appealing to other people, a godly woman focuses on God first. #2 She Speaks and Behaves Wisely Proverbs 31:26-27 says…“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” A godly woman remembers that her words have meaning and that caring for her home and family is of the utmost importance. She uses her words to build up and not tear down. #3 She Helps to Guide Younger Women into Godliness Themselves Titus 2:3-5 says…“Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” This is often used as an idealized portrait of the spouse of a deacon or elder in the church, but it can be applied to any godly woman who seeks after the things of God. One key characteristic is that she is concerned about teaching other women to follow Scripture in all they do. #4 She Submits to Her Husband in Christian Marriage Colossians 3:18 says…Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.” Rather than sinfully seeking dominance over her spouse, a godly woman should submit to her husband as he follows the Lord in their marriage. #5 She Maintains a Witness for God in Her Marriage 1 Peter 3:1 says…“Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure 34 25 Core Characteristics of a Godly Woman The Bible has much to say on how to become more godly, and there are many specific passages that share how to do so as a holy woman of God. APRIL 13-16, 2023 35 35 conduct.” While it is always best for both spouses to be believers, a woman who has married a nonbeliever should stay faithful and let her life be a witness for God. This can lead her husband to his own relationship with God. #6 She Does Not Behave Foolishly, and so Protects Her Household Proverbs 14:1 says…“The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down.” Foolish living can tear down someone’s life, but using wisdom and being faithful to the Word can help a godly woman build a life that is centered on God first. #7 She Keeps an Inner Beauty 1 Peter 3:4 says…“But let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.” It is possible to pay too much attention to outward appearance. A godly woman knows that her worth is found in God’s view of her, as a precious daughter of the King of kings #8 She Keeps From Gossiping or Speaking Ill of Others Paul says in 1 Timothy 3:11 says…“Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but soberminded, faithful in all things.” Our words can cause great harm, and it is very easy to speak badly about someone to destroy their reputation. A godly woman knows this and only seeks to encourage others. #9 She Works Hard and Takes Care of Her Home and Family Proverbs 31:13-15 says…“She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.” You aren’t required to get up at midnight every day, but a godly woman should seek the good of her household and do what she can to support it. #10 She Recognizes That God is for Her Judges 4:14 says…“And Deborah said to Barak, ‘Up! For this is the day in which the LORD has given Sisera into your hand. Does not the LORD go out before you?’” Deborah was a prophetess who told Barak that he would be the next judge over Israel. She encouraged him and later did her part to defeat the invading enemy. She also gave God all the glory and praise for their victory. She began – as every godly woman should – by recognizing that God goes before them. #11 She is Faithful to Support Other Believers Ruth 1:16-17 says…“But Ruth said, ‘Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the LORD do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.’” Ruth is a model of godliness for women to follow. She was loyal to God and loyal to her family. Her sweet submission to others and acknowledgment of God’s provision is a shining example of how a woman can trust God in all things. #12 She Has Faith That Jesus Can Do Anything Matthew 9:21 says…“For she said to herself, ‘If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.’” The woman who suffered from years of bleeding didn’t speak to Jesus in order to be healed, but her faith was great enough to trust that He could do it. She was rewarded for her faith and was healed in both body and spirit. #13 She Is Available and Willing to Be Used by God Luke 1:38 says…“And Mary said, ‘Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.’ And the angel departed from her.” Mary didn’t understand how she would become pregnant with the Son of God, but she did not question God’s plans. She simply made herself a willing vessel who would do what God asked of her.

APRIL 13-16, 2023 36 36 #14 She Remains Dedicated to the Things of God Luke 2:36-37 says…“And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day.” Anna and Simeon are presented as characters who blessed Jesus and His human family at the Temple after He was born. Even though Anna was a widow, she devoted her attention and energies to the things of God, and so was able to recognize the Messiah when He came. #15 She Helps to Care for Those Who Spread the Gospel Luke 8:1-3 says…“Soon afterward He went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s household manager, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.” Many women followed after Jesus throughout His ministry, supporting Him and His disciples as they went. A godly woman can do the same for those in her local church. #16 She Lives Out Her Faith for Jesus Luke 7:44 and 7:50 says, “Then turning toward the woman He said to Simon, ‘Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair…’ And He said to the woman, ‘Your faith has saved you; go in peace.’” Jesus recognized the faith and love of the woman who blessed Him with this gift of worship. This act of worship was an act of saving faith. #17 She Relies on God, Even Through Hard Times John 11:21-22 says…“Martha said to Jesus, ‘Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever You ask from God, God will give You.’” When Lazarus died, his sisters sought Jesus for healing. Though Jesus would later raise him from the dead, they first had to completely trust that He was the Son of God, and able to do more than they could imagine. #18 She Is Open to God’s Plans Acts 16:14-15 says…“One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul. And after she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, ‘If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.’ And she prevailed upon us.” Paul frequently stayed with new believers on his travels. Lydia was a godly woman who opened her home and gave her wealth to support him. #19 She Helps Guide Others to Become Effective Witnesses for Christ Acts 18:24-26 says…“Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures. He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John. He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.” Priscilla and her husband recognized the talents of the young preacher Apollos and provided him with a better understanding of the Gospel. A godly woman can do the same for others that she meets in her church. #20 She Walks in Love and Obedience to God 2 John 5-6 says…“And now I ask you, dear lady—not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—that we love one another. And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it. A godly woman lives her life devoted to the love of God, and in obedience to His commandments.

APRIL 13-16, 2023 37 37 #21 She Passes Along Her Faith Throughout Her Family 2 Timothy 1:4-5 says…“As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.” Timothy was evangelized by his mother and grandmother. They passed on the legacy of faith in Christ that he used to become a powerful leader in the early church. #22 She Is Always Prepared for God’s Plans Matthew 25:1 says…“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom…” This parable of Jesus preaches the importance of always being ready for Christ’s coming, and living with eternity clearly in view. #23 She Is Supported and Acknowledged by Other Believers Romans 16:1-2 says…“I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church at Cenchreae, that you may welcome her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints, and help her in whatever she may need from you, for she has been a patron of many and of myself as well.” Phoebe was commended alongside the men of the area churches as an equal leader. A godly woman can use her influence for Christ to be a faithful shepherd for others. #24 She Tells Others What Jesus Has Done for Her John 4:39 says…“Many Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony, ‘He told me all that I ever did.’” The Samaritan woman was among the first missionaries for Jesus. She was eager to tell others about the promised Messiah. #25 She Gives Generously to Those in Need Proverbs 31:20 says…“She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy.” A godly woman is as generous as possible, making it a practice to give to those in need.

APRIL 13-16, 2023 38 38 Warfare Prayers For Women (Written by Elder Glenora H. Wilson) DECLARATION OF FAITH I come to You, Lord Jesus, as my Deliverer. You know all my problems, all the things that bind, torment, defile, and harass me. I now loose myself from every dark spirit, every influence, every satanic bondage and from every spirit in me which is not a Spirit of God, and I command all such spirits to leave me now in the name of Jesus Christ. I confess that my body is a temple for the Holy Spirit, redeemed, cleansed, and sanctified by the blood of Jesus. Through the blood of Jesus, I am redeemed out of the hand of the devil. The blood of Jesus Christ, God’s son, cleanses me continually from all sin. Through the blood of Jesus I am justified, mad righteous, just as if I’d never sinned; I am sanctified, made holy and se apart to God. Therefore, Satan has no part in me or no power over me because of the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. I renounce him, loose myself from him and command him to leave me. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. PRAYER OF REFUSAL AGAINST SATAN Lord Jesus, I’m saying these prayers for myself and my family (name family members). Today, I commit our lives to You totally (bodies, souls and spirits). I ask that You bend, break and mold us to make us into the men and women that You want us to be. Satan, I come against you and all your hosts; I reject everything that you would have for us today. I refuse all the snares, pits and traps you have set up to draw us away from the Lord Jesus Christ and deliverance. I rebuke, refuse, reject, renounce and resist you, Satan, and all your hosts, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Father, I ask for Your will and purpose to be done today. Keep us in Your perfect will and make us yielded vessels for Your work.

APRIL 13-16, 2023 39 39 UNBELIEF, DOUBT AND FEAR Father, I renounce unbelief, doubt, lies, and fear. I ask forgiveness from these and bind and cast them out of us. I ask you to replace them with truth, faith, trust, and confidence in You and help us to have contentment, peace and rest in You. PSYCHIC HEREDITY AND BONDAGE PRAYER In the name of Jesus Christ, I now renounce, break, and loose myself and my children from all psychic powers, bondages, or bonds, or physical or mental illness upon me or my family line, as the result of my parents or any other ancestors or relatives. I thank You, Lord, for setting me free. TAKING GROUNDS FROM THE ENEMY I take authority over you in the name of Jesus Christ, you foul demon spirit. You have no legal right or grounds to reside in this body. Jesus Christ obtained an order of eviction 2,000 years ago at Calvary. The order is written in His blood and signed by the Lord Jesus Christ. I ask my Father in heaven, by His Son Jesus Christ, to send angelic sheriffs to execute this order of eviction. You must vacate God’s property now or be forcibly removed. This is the only warning you will receive. LOOSING FROM DOMINATION PRAYER In the name of Jesus Christ, I now renounce, break and loose myself from all demonic subjection to my mother, father, grandparents, or any other human being, living or dead, who has dominated me in any way contrary to the will of God. I thank You, Lord, for setting me free. LOOSING OF CURSES, SPELLS, ETC. In the name of Jesus Christ, I now rebuke, break and loose myself and my children from any and all evil curses, charms, vexes, hexes, spells, jinxes, psychic powers, bewitchments, witchcraft and sorcery, which have been put upon me or my family line from any persons or from any occult or psychic source, and I renounce all connected and related spirits and command them to leave me. I thank You, Lord for setting me free.
