A GUIDE ON HOW TO OFFICIALLY
KICKBACK,

I remember like it was yesterday because it still happens often. After a long work day my mother would
call a few friends/or family members and invite them over for what we call today, a “Kickback.” When
the guest arrived our home would become a getaway from the daily routine of life.  This wasn’t just
weekend fun. It often took place in the middle of the week and especially when the New Orleans Saints
were playing. At the “Kickback” you had your options of various card games such as spades, Tunk, UNO,
etc. BYOB is usually the liquor of choice and depending on the occasion, dinner was often cooked.

Listen, my mother has more than 20 years of culinary experience and over 30 years of helping and
maintaining a stable home. Trust me when I say that her guests were always well fed and well
entertained. Imagine a sanctuary from the outside world where everyone was able to leave their shoes
and worries at the door. We all need an escape in a world full of problems, situations, and circumstances
that we simply cannot control.

Imagine it’s Monday morning and you’re still on the weekend high, minus a hangover. Your fade is still
on point. Pastor Mike’s sermon is still fresh on your heart. You admit to yourself that life is good. You
left home early so you wouldn’t be late but of course the train had other plans. You arrive to work late
and greeted by an email from your combative project manager about something that could have waited
until…never! You eloquently respond with, “Per our last email…”

We can’t control the unexpected train or the unexpected wait time for a simple breakfast sandwich. We
can control the energy and happiness in our home. Now enter The Kickback Bible! This is my personal
and loving way of making sure that everyone is comfortable and the vibes are nothing but love, respect,
and of course some shade every now and then.
