1 Introduction to reading and note-taking skill
In order for a person to have the capacity to read, comprehend, interpret and decode written

language and text, it is very important to develop a good reading skill as it can be very beneficial to
those who apply this skill. It helps a person to respond to any written communications such as
messages and letter. Next, developing note-taking skill which is a transferable skill is just as
important as developing reading skill. By having the skill of note-taking, a person will be able to
recall any important information from what have been learned.

2 The importance of reading and note-taking skill
University of Sussex has conducted a study about reading and the outcome showed that by

reading, stress can be reduced up to 68% which it also helps to reduce tension and to relax muscle.
As a result, having a better sleep and staying healthy will no longer be a problem. With that being
said, it is important to have the right and suitable reading skill. As for note-taking, it is very important
for a person to have the suitable skill in order to help them understand better and have better
memory on what they have learned. Not only that, it can be applied for every aspect of life as it can
be a powerful aid of communication that helps us to understand what we hear or see.

3 Justification on chosen tool
Using graphic organizer as thinking tool is very effective as it can ease the process of learning

such as classifying ideas and organize their notes. This is especially because of the various types
and styles that graphic organizers have which can be used such as graphs, diagrams and tables.
Moreover, this tool is the best option for visual or reading and writing type of learners. Using graphic
organizers for either teaching or learning purpose will offer a lot of benefits. One of them is to help
showing the relationship between two or more different ideas through shapes, symbols and
connectors.

4.2 Description of product
Simple, organized and easy to understand. These are the exact aspects that are very important

for students to ponder on when they want to start taking notes. However, it would be very hard to
do revisions if the notes that are made are unorganized and is not well-structured right? In other
words, the effort of making the notes will produce an outcome that may not very effective and helpful
when it is needed. Well, this product is totally the opposite from the statement above because it will
definitely ease the process of doing such things like classifying ideas, recognizing the main and
supporting ideas, plan future actions and also helps students to think critically in solving a problem.
The product contains two graphic organizers which it has its own function based on different needs.

The first graphic organizer is the one that uses ‘wh’ questions which are what, why, when and
who questions that can be used to lead anyone to the best solution to a problem or an issue. This
organizer is not specifically made only for students. Anyone who has trouble of solving a problem
can use this graphic organizer. This graphic organizer consists of six sections. It will firstly help to
identify the problem by answering the what section such as stating about what event or incident is
happening or what is the root cause of the problem. Secondly, figure out the cause by filling the
why section such as stating about why is it important to be reached out and fill the when and who
section for additional information if needed such as stating about who is the first one to point out
the problem or who will be affected by the problem. After finishing the filling process, then the most
suitable solution can be planned in order to solve the problem. In addition, this method of answering
questions is very helpful for activities such as discussions and brainstorming which can develop
either critical or lateral thinking.

The second organizer which applies the Cornell note-taking method is the one that is made for
the exact purpose of taking notes because this method will only focus on important concepts and
ideas. This organizer consists of four sections which are definition or concepts section, key words
and main points section, summary section and additional information section. By using this
organizer, students will be able to have an organized notes and it will be very easy for them to
revise for exams by just referring to this organizer. In other words, this graphic organizer
discourages the use of long sentences and encourage the usage of short sentences which means
that having five to ten words in a sentence is enough. The summary section at the bottom row is for
students to be able to strengthen their understanding which is very helpful to do after a class is
done. As for the additional information section, it is for students to put any other useful information
that are related to the topic they have learned.

6 Conclusion
Graphic organizer enables the process of making notes to be much easier. Once again, graphic

organizer promotes an easy to understand, simple and organized note. Not only that, reading and
note-taking skills are very important to be practiced as well because it can ensure that a person will
receive and manage to digest the information correctly and that is how they will be able to utilize
these skills and this thinking tool which is graphic organizer to the fullest and create the best
outcome.
