Teaching Philosophy

Teaching Philosophy

The development of one’s personal philosophy of teaching and learning is a life-long
process that is perfected over time. It requires an educator or aspiring educator to
reflect on their core beliefs and values. This author’s teaching philosophy relates most
to the Humanism approach to education with some modifications in order to ensure
that all of the domains of learning are addressed. The humanistic philosophy focuses
on treating the student with care and dignity, acknowledging their learning styles, while
promoting the development of a humanistic perspective of others. This approach also
centers on the student realizing and developing their full potential. Achievement is
ensured through combining theoretical and conceptual instruction with experiences
and self-reflection to close the gap between classroom knowledge and clinical practice.
