a word from some Seniors

“I’ve had quite a few funny moments at Moody, but one of the best has
to be the epic prank I pulled on Ol’ Dean Ward. Last year, for April Fools,
Cierra Klatt and I got a box of glazed donuts from Krispy Kreme and set
them on Dean Ward’s desk. He, being overjoyed, opened up the box to
get a donut, only to find a vegetable tray instead. So, on top of your stud-
ies, make time for good laughs with people you love (and love to prank).
As the Good Book says, ‘A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance!’”
Chris Loux
“My biggest piece of advice for underclassmen is not to take your
friendships here for granted. Take the time to find good people who
will support you through the best and worst of times, because—believe
me—both will come. Your friends here can be more than a passing
acquaintances. Some of these will be people you know for the rest of
your life. Take time to cherish the friends you have and love them well.
They’re one of the greatest treasures you’ll be given on earth.”
KeKe Atwater
“Freshmeat, remain diligent in your studies! There will be moments that
you are going to want to quit, yell, or maybe even die. When the tougher
times come—because they will—always remember that in due season you
will reap if you faint not (Galatians 6:9). Rest assured that each time you
sow diligently unto the glorification of the Lord (not self, not D.L. Moody,
not Mom & Dad) for Christ’s sake, you store up heavenly treasures.”
Keith Nicholls
“‘The poet only asks to get his head into the heavens. It is the logician
who seeks to get the heavens into his head. And it is his head that splits.’
Some wisdom derived from Chesterton: stay sane. May your education
be a means to wonder at the beauty, and magnitude of God. May this
move you to humility in asking questions, seeking answers, and accept-
ing your own finiteness.”
Miranda Hawkins
“Start being proactive about your future after Moody. Begin networking
with people in the field you want to work in and begin building relation-
ships that will help you land a job! Say yes to ANY opportunity that could
be beneficial to a resume or building skills. Don’t just take a job because
of money. Actually put thought into how it will help your future! All in
all, be proactive and hard-working. The workforce is competitive.”
Kelley Roberts
“One piece of advice I’d give to underclassmen is to get a job/activity
outside of Moody. My first year I didn’t do that, and I was getting burnt
out of school and the city really quickly. Working at a bakery and rock
climbing the next year helped Spokane feel like home. It made me more
stable and helped me build a life that I love here!”

“In my first TESOL Majors chapel at Moody three years ago, I remem-
ber Dr. Canner talking to the upperclassmen about their internships—
where they were going and where they had already gone. They were
like “super-missionaries” in my eyes. Now I find myself a junior, about
to embark on my own internship. During my time here at Moody, I have
come to see that I am certainly not a super-missionary—just as those
upperclassmen I had looked up to were not. Rather, I am simply a clay
jar, given the privilege of serving for six weeks in Israel this summer.
Since I am a TESOL major, I will be teaching English to five staff mem-
bers at the Jews for Jesus Israel headquarters in Tel-Aviv. The staff mem-
bers are from Ukraine with a beginner to intermediate English levels.
My job will be to help them become more confident in their speaking
and listening skills so that they can better communicate with others
and, thus, better spread the gospel. I am so excited to see what God has
planned and how all this plays out this summer!”

“My official title at Fourth Memorial Church is Pastoral Intern of
Adult Ministries, under Jonah Lanclos, the Associate Pastor. Two other
Adult Ministries interns and I spend 15-20 hours each week serving the
church in various ways. On Sundays, we arrive at 6:30 am to unlock
doors, turn on lights, set thermostats, hang up signs, and greet people.
Throughout the week we are in the church office. We get together with
Jonah regularly each week to update each other on the work we have
been doing, what needs to be done, how can we pray for each other,
etc. We also do calling ministry, which is a ministry of reaching out to
our church body through phone calls and emails in response to various
things: prayer requests, interest in baptism or membership, attendance
of one of our 13 campus groups, and also to inform and invite as many
as we can to upcoming events.”
