bawat kapatid.”- Bro. Marcelino “Tatang” Ferry pledged as the newest elected and the youngest
Alpha Phi Omega Philippines National President and Board of Trustees last May 2019 during the
General Assembly held in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.

WHO IS BRO. “TATANG” FERRY?

Bro. Marcelino “Tatang” Sebastian Ferry is the incumbent National President and Board of
Trustees of Alpha Phi Omega Philippines for Development Year 2019-2021. He pledged in 2002 in
Epsilon Omicron Chapter, Wesleyan University, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, Philippines where
he studied and finished his Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. He served as the Prime Chancellor of
his chapter in 2004-2005, Grand Chancellor in year 2006-2007 and moved up as Northern Luzon
Administrative Region’s Collegiate Section Chairman for DY 2007-2009. His willingness and
eagerness to serve his beloved organization opened more opportunities and that he became the
Deputy Regional Director then subsequently Regional Director in 2009 and as National Executive
Vice President in 2017.

Bro. Tatang, as he is famously known, was born on May 7, 1984 in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija.
He is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Ferry who are both working as Officers in the Department of the Interior
and Local Government in Nueva Ecija. Bro. Tatang currently works as the Chief of Staff of his
province.

APO IDEALISM

Bro. Tatang grew up having great respect for our organization and was curious as to what our
members do for our society. He wanted to understand how an APO member execute its core
values and principles; Leadership, Friendship and Service. This motivated him to join APO, pledging
at an early stage in college.

He decided to pursue a political path within APO to prove his abilities and to inspire others,
especially the young generations, that age should not hinder anyone from serving the brotherhood.

Inspired by this year’s theme, “Unity in Diversity, Bridging Traditions and Innovations”, his goal
is to unite all Brothers and Sisters, all the different collegiate chapters and alumni associations by
acknowledging our diversity and recognizing that our differences do not prevent us from fulfilling
the meaning and purpose of our organization. He wanted to link together traditions of old and
the innovations that we need to adopt in order to endure in this constantly changing world. He
recognizes the importance of keeping sacred customs alive as this defines our identities not only
at the chapter level but on a national scale as well. He also acknowledges that in order to survive
as an organization in these challenging times, we have to be open to change and accept the fact
that compromises must be made. He rejects the idea that APO is a dying breed because it refuses
to transcend. Together, he believes, we shall forge stronger bonds of brotherhood anchored by
mutual respect and acceptance of our differences while at the same time working towards the
healthy amalgamation of the old ways with the new.

KEEPING THE DREAM ALIVE

His ultimate dream is unity in our circle, to be able to develop and promote services especially
in our respective communities, and to ensure that APO is at a level higher than other organizations,
that is, to maintain the image of APO as a professional and the premier service Fraternity and
Sorority in the Philippines.

(bloodletting; medical, dental, and
surgical missions; sports programs);
environment (green scouting APO
Tree/Forest Camp; coastal cleanup);
education and training (Balik Eskwela,
APO Academy, National Book
Giving); peace and governance (Yes
for Peace, Adopt a Barangay, APO
Interfaith Prayer Battalion); scouting
(Balik Scouting Program, ROVIC,
basic training courses, advance
programs in scouting); and, pledging
(APO Pledge Program).

TAKING INTO ACTION

From May 26, 2019 to the present,
Bro. Tatang has already realized
numerous accomplishments. He built
and created a National Medical and
Dental Team with related branches
of services running throughout the
different regions, the Committee on
Disaster Response Team (a team who
responded to the needs of the victims
of typhoon Ursula that hit Leyte
and the most recent Taal Eruption
in Batangas), Kitchen on Wheels,
Committee on Sports, and Scouting.
He also empowered the collegiate
to produce more quality members
through active recruitment and
massive service programs. Services
and projects under his leadership are
evident and enshrined in this issue.
