Nine goals in six matches for finalists, Ngezi seek double as Dynamos seek redemption INE goals were scored between Chibuku Super Cup finalists Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum in six matches, each had a match decided on penalties while there is a chance two players could still pip FC Platinum’s Walter Musona to the Top Goal Scorer gong. Although Zimbabwe’s top flight has been struggling for goals, 17 were scored in the First Round of the competition, an upward of four from the 2022 edition. “It was pleasing to see goals coming thick and fast. It’s a cup competition which has seen players giving out their best and we expect to see more goals,” said Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) Spokesperson Kudzai Bare.

www.bhorafrika.com ROAD TO THE CHIBUKU FINAL 2023 Dynamos accounted for one, an Emmanuel Paga strike at Barbourfields Stadium against Simba Bhora that ensured their place in the Quarterfinals where they faced FC Platinum. At Mandava Stadium Jarrison Selemani had all but ensured FC Platinum advance before Keith Madera forced the match to penalties where Dynamos emerged victorious on a 5-3 scoreline. Caps United was an easy opponent in the SemiFinal, succumbing to Dynamos’ incomparable trio of Tanaka Shandirwa, Donald Mudadi, and Junior Makunike. The match ended 2-0 in DeMbare’s favour to not only book a place in this season’s final but a return to continental football. Madera and Elton Chikona goalscorers for the day. Ngezi Platinum dispatched relegated Triangle United 2-1 in the First Round courtesy of Malvin Gaki and youthful Takunda Benhura to make a date with Herentals in their Quarterfinal match. The Mhondoro-based side finally had its revenge for a 2018 knockout; beating Herentals 5-4 on penalties to avenge their 4-3 penalty loss five years ago. This year’s encounter had ended in a nil-all stalemate. Gaki, Malvin Kwinjo, and Claude Mapoka then combined to demolish Black Rhinos in the semifinal, booking a date with Dynamos a team they are yet to beat this term. Dynamos’ Madera and Ngezi Platinum’s Gaki, both on two goals, could just clinch the top scorer award if they score on Sunday. The Dynamos Route! The Ngezi Platinum Way

www.bhorafrika.com ROAD TO THE CHIBUKU FINAL 2023 We are anticipating nothing less than magic I n its ninth edition since reintroduction, the Chibuku Super Cup has maintained premier status, producing some of topflight football’s greatest moments as was expected when Delta Corporation General Manager Sorghum Beer Business Marshall Pemhiwa launched this season’s edition. After 16 matches, the penultimate game takes place at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro-Ngezi on Sunday; a clash between 2023 Castle Lager premiership champions Ngezi Platinum and giants Dynamos who spent the entire season threatening to snatch it. To reflect on this season, bhorafrika.com produces an excerpt of what Pemhiwa said at the Cup’s launch below; “I am greatly honoured to be part of this journey. We met here two years ago and we committed to a three- year sponsorship package for this tournament and to say that this journey has been exciting will be a gross understatement. “The journey has been nothing short of pure magic over the last two years and we are anticipating nothing less than magic again this year. “Chibuku as a brand continues to take great pride in sponsoring soccer which allows us to engage intimately and connect with our consumers while fostering the bonds of brotherhood. “In that regard I wish to extend our appreciation to our partners who have been instrumental in this journey to bring soccer to the people.” A word from the Sponsors! Chibuku as a brand continues to take great pride in sponsoring soccer which allows us to engage intimately and connect with our consumers while fostering the bonds of brotherhood. ” “

www.bhorafrika.com ROAD TO THE CHIBUKU FINAL 2023 We have been doing this all season Chiragwi says as Ngezi Platinum braces for ‘historic double’ Castle Lager premiership champions Ngezi Platinum will not only be fighting for their second Chibuku Super Cup trophy when they face giants Dynamos on Sunday but a historic double that could etch their names in history books. Ngezi Platinum Stars face Dynamos in the ninth edition of the cup competition on 3 December at Baobab stadium; a competition they won in their first season of promotion into Zimbabwe’s topflight, seven years ago. Then with the likes of Super Sport Forward Terrence Dzvukamanja, Liberty Chakoroma, Washington Pakamisa and Kenneth Bulaji, Madamburo beat rivals FC Platinum 3-1 at the same venue being used on Sunday. This will be the newly crowned champions’ third appearance in four of the much recent editions (2019, 2021, 2022, 2023) having only missed out in 2022 when eventual losing finalists, Herentals, knocked them out in the first round. Having been losing finalists to Highlanders

www.bhorafrika.com ROAD TO THE CHIBUKU FINAL 2023 in 2019, and FC Platinum in 2021, the Madamburo family will be hoping to be third time lucky and ensure double delight at Baobab. A win will see Ngezi join Harare City in the league of teams that have managed to win the premier cup competition twice. Harare City won it in 2015 and 2017. Ngezi Platinum Coach Takesure Chirwagi said his players did not need to be psyched up for the clash as “playing football was their job.” “My players don’t need to be psyched up for the final, they are at work; they know. They know they need to play and win games,” Chiragwi said. “We really need to finish on a high note, we need to focus on the Chibuku Final, there is nothing new, they have been doing this all season.”

www.bhorafrika.com ROAD TO THE CHIBUKU FINAL 2023 Winning the Chibuku Super Cup would be our biggest achievement this year - says Dynamos Coach Kaka, as clash with league champions beckons Dynamos Coach Genesis ‘Kaka’ Mangombe believes winning Sunday’s Chibuku Super Cup final against 2023 Castle Lager premiership champions Ngezi Platinum would be his and the club’s biggest achievement this year. DeMbare not only finished a respectable third but ensured their spot in CAF competitions by storming into the Chibuku final; a return to continental football that took almost ten years. At a personal level, the 40-year-old Mangombe has had an arguably fruitful period since taking over from Herbert Marowa who was relieved of duties in early August. He is the current Warriors Assistant Coach and was part of the technical team that led Zimbabwe to a one-all draw with giants Nigeria in its second 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier since readmission into international football.

www.bhorafrika.com ROAD TO THE CHIBUKU FINAL 2023 The game is being played at Ngezi Platinum’s fortress Baobab Stadium with kickoff slated for 2pm. “Winning the Chibuku Super Cup is going to be our biggest achievement this year, we are going to do everything we can to win it,” said Mangombe on the sidelines of his troops’ Thursday workout. “It is not going to be that easy, we managed to beat Ngezi Platinum at the National Sports Stadium, but they definitely want revenge. This is a Cup game, if they fail to beat us they do not have a second leg. “There will not be any home advantage in this case. Dynamos has fans everywhere, Baobab Stadium is not far and everyone is waiting for that game considering no other games are being played.” Five of this season’s best 11 players will play out the blockbuster clash. Ngezi Platinum contributed three in Captain and Soccer Star of the Year contender Qadr Amini, goalie Nelson Chadya, and young forward Takunda Benhura. Dynamos on the other hand saw two players of their three-member midfield machine making it; another Soccer Star of the Year contender Donald Mudadi and fan favourite Tanaka Shandirwa.
