EDITOR’S NOTE Payal A Jain (Payal A. Jain) FOUNDER: BOSS NETWORK Three years ago, it felt like a dream. This magazine was a dream. The fellowship was a dream. This support system was a dream. A new society was a dream. But today, it is our reality. I dared to dream with purpose. A purpose that is worked upon with passion becomes a dream come true in waking reality - what the Japanese call “IKIGAI.” And with Boss Network, I found my IKIGAI - spreading happiness, fellowship, positivity, motivation, and celebrating the small successes of businesses associated with us, while also supporting them through their challenges. In this magazine, we bring to you inspiring stories - stories that touched our heart, stories of entrepreneurs who dared to dream, who found their IKIGAI, and who continue to inspire us every day. It takes one moment, one decision, one step to create a revolution in your life. That one leap of courage, that one leap of faith, holding gently your dream, is your IKIGAI. As you unfold this magazine, you will explore not only the real, inspiring stories of entrepreneurs, but also hope, dedication, determination, passion, and resilience - elements that we believe make for a successful and fulfilling entrepreneurial journey. While writing this piece, I reflected on my past and realized that, as a kid, I really wanted to open a community club for kids, to lead and make new rules, to be what I am, and to be accepted for it. Today, with Boss Network, it is the fulfillment of that dream, bringing about a change not only in my life, but in the lives of everyone associated with us. To explore your own IKIGAI, look for tiny details of what moves you, what excites you, or what triggers you. And always remember that people only offer what they have in abundance. If you decide to be abundant in happiness, you will radiate happiness, love, and compassion. Dare to be the Change Dare to Rebel for it Dare to be Different Do whatever but Take the Flight Don’t stop and Dare to dream

Women entrepreneurs in India are a growing force in the business world, with more and more women starting their own businesses each year. One such woman entrepreneur is Poonam Agarwal. Poonam, a Chartered Accountant dropout, began her career with several unsuccessful business ventures. Her inclination towards art led her way to the unique idea of shoe painting that gave her artistic validation but not a soaring business. Undeterred, Poonam started Clarks with the help of her brother Amit Agarwal, who is also a successful entrepreneur, but as luck would have it, Clarks turned out to be a futile attempt too. ‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way’ is a hackneyed saying but isn’t a redundant one. Clarks failure opened new doors for Poonam and she started with a kiosk gadget zone in City Center and then another kiosk of the Man company. Third in line was The Little Human, a kids shoe retail store that offers a wide range of shoe collections right from newly born infants to teenagers. The Little Human turned out to be successful and that gave her the confidence to start Nike. With Nike, Poonam saw an immense success and budding opportunity to diversify her role as an entrepreneur. Apart from being an entrepreneur Poonam is also a mother of a beautiful daughter. Despite the prejudices and the deeply rooted patriarchal set up, Poonam continued to thrive in what she believed in. As a woman, she feels it’s imperative to see women outside the home boundaries and marital duties that are purely man-made and not human made. Thus, she aims to bring gender neutral opportunity in business. She is an avid reader and immensely inclined to spirituality. Each day she thrives to grow personally, professionally, and spiritually in life. NEVER GIVE UP ON your dreams As a woman, she feels it’s imperative to see women outside the home boundaries and marital duties that are purely man-made and not human made. 7

L ife was carefree for Uttam Teron, a resident of Pamohi. Once when he was loitering in his village, he saw few kids collecting firewood. He thought the children should be in school. Driven by this thought, Uttam converted his cowshed into a classroom with bare essentials like bamboo walls, a desk, a chair, a blackboard and a few writing materials. His aim initially was to convince children to spend an hour in his classroom. To make learning interesting and ensure that kids maintain regularity, he’d come up with a variety of activities in his class. This was in 2003 when he had only four students. On the personal front Uttam is married and blessed with twin daughters. His wife helps him in the school besides looking after handloom courses and helping volunteers with their food and stay. The academy has garnered quite a fame for itself but it wasn’t easy for Uttam to sustain his non-profit school. In 2005, he wanted money for his students. So,he started sending blind mails to different organisations and individuals asking for help. Today his academy is a full-fledged educational institution with 376 students from Nursery to Class 10. It has 19 teachers and separate hostels for boys and girls. Children from 18 nearby villages like Ahomgaon, Gorchuk, Chakardo, Mainakhurung, Umsen etc come to the academy. A pediatric dentist by profession and a style curator by passion, Dr. Nisha Goenka is happily juggling two careers, besides raising two sons. Twelve years back when she shifted to Guwahati after her marriage, she was not sure how life will treat her. But she always knew how to find her way. She was working with Operations Smile, a US-based NGO that provides cleft lip surgeries to children worldwide. After a year, she went on to start her own clinic but the journey was not smooth. She received several set-backs as parents generally tend to ignore their children’s dental health. She recalled she had to put in extra efforts to educate people, but today, she feels it was all worth it. Dressing up was her forte and there was not a single day when she was not asked about her style by random people whom she met every day. Nisha realised there was a dearth of brands in the city that provide high-end fashion clothing and accessories. This inspired her to launch Style Stack Pop Up, a one-stop destination for luxury clothing, accessories, shoes, bags and even lifestyle products. Her popup shows are organised in Guwahati, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Siliguri, and are a huge hit with customers. Luxury brands from across the country participate in her exhibitions. Love FOR BANDHANI S hweta Rara was head over heels when she shopped for her wedding trousseau. It’s been 21 years of marriage but her finely crafted red bandhani saree, worn during her pheras, is still her favorite. Things to do to make your Money work 6hard for YOU!! The Golden Formula : INCOME – SAVINGS = EXPENSES. Let’s just SIP: Start a SABSE IMPORTANT PLAN. Involve your Family to make Finance a subject of FUNANCE. Don’t let your money sit idle in your bank account: USE LIQUID FUNDS. Create a safety net for your business: INSURE YOUR BUSINESS. Create a fund that can help you on your rainy days: CREATE AN EMERGENCY CORPUS. Gone are the days when we used to spend first and save whatever little we had. We should start using the golden rule of SAVING first and then spending the rest. It will help us get into the good habit of saving and also let us spend guilt-free. SIP is as simple as a traditional RD - just that the money directly gets debited from your bank account on your preferred date. And you know the good part, you can track its value, withdraw it, stop it, or increase it anytime you want! MYTHS & FACTS on Infertility Rashmi Goenka, Laboratory Director and Chief Embryologist at Goenka Nursing Home (IHR), Guwahati. What is infertility? Who is responsible for this? Husband or wife? What are the different treatment options available for infertility? What is IVF? Your message for the readers? Is the problem of infertility increasing nowadays? What are the common causes of infertility? When a couple tries for a pregnancy for one year and fails to achieve it then we say that the couple is having infertility problems. An important question. Traditionally society blames the wife for infertility, but today medically we know that this problem can be because of both. In approximately 30% of cases, the husband might have some problem. In approximately 30% of the cases, the wife might have some problem. In around 30% of cases, the problem lies in both and in 10% of cases no problem is identified. Not one treatment fits all. For different problems, different treatments are required. Most important thing is to investigate thoroughly and identify the problem. Ovulation induction (medicines to develop good eggs), IUI, IVF, ICSI and Hystero-laparoscopy are a few of the many options. IVF stands for In Vitro Fertilization. Also popularly known as Test tube baby. In IVF, we take out eggs from the wife’s body and fertilize with the husband’s sperm in the laboratory. Once the fertilized egg (now known as embryo) starts growing, we put it back in the uterus. If it sticks there, pregnancy occurs. Keep life simple. Grow responsibly. Women empowerment comes with its own responsibilities. Get married and enjoy parenthood in time. Don’t delay. Yes and no, both. Yes, we are seeing more couples struggling with it. Our changing society contributes to it. Late marriages, late child bearing and lifestyle habits like alcoholism, tobacco, and fast food leading to obesity are to be blamed. Other reasons are more couples are coming out for treatment. The problem of infertility was and still is associated with taboo. But now due to awareness, more couples are talking about it. And secondly, more treatment options are available. For a normal pregnancy to occur we need a healthy sperm, a good egg and normal reproductive organs from both male and female. If the sperms are not healthy, less or absent it can cause infertility. Again, in females, if eggs are less or unhealthy, pregnancy may be difficult. This usually occurs due to increasing age. Unhealthy tubes are another very common cause of infertility. There are many more causes of this problem like PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids, PID etc. The problem of not being able to develop relations among themselves (unconsummated marriage) is another very common problem. Several Roles, One Big Goal: S haswati Phukon is a psychologist, an inter-life skill coach and an educator. The journey she took was a long one and she has taken up several roles, all of which contributed to shifting her priorities into one mold which shaped the kind of person that she is now. A look into her life and it goes back to 30 years when she began her journey as a life skill coach. From Bangalore to Assam to Meghalaya, she visited more than 50 schools to practice counselling, experiencing changes in the lives of children, watching layers of normalcy peel back to lay bare unfortunate circumstances, sometimes of child abuse, sometimes child marriages. But she faced those dilemmas smoothly, with the will of an ambitious and empathetic individual wanting to create a positive difference. From awkward situations to dangerous ones, there were plenty of hurdles to cross before she could even think of wearing her victory crown. Then in 2018, she returned to Guwahati where she started her next journey as an educator – a history teacher. But the sudden change of environment and work scratched the back of her mind, giving her an uncomfortable feeling of something amiss. She had no clue and continued to teach, standing out as a history teacher by combining all that she had learned about psychology into work, making it easier to read the behaviour of children and helping them out in every way she could. Around that time her husband raised a question that left her in a state of confusion. He asked her ‘what was her main profession?’ Her main profession - the broad subject she willingly chose to explore instead of delving deeper into economics because she believed it was her true calling. Today, she has put to good use everything she learned in psychology and began her journey as a psychologist in Assam. She has started her clinic, Chikitsa, at present medicity in Hatigaon. Besides she is a practicing psychologist in two rehabilitation centres, working as a resource person associated with Cambridge University for Northeast Division. Although there was the constant battle of challenging stereotypes and social stigmas, the drive to educate those in need kept her going as a psychologist and an educator. Her profession brings forth a barrage of challenges that she intends to tackle one step at a time. It requires patience, faith, and plenty of belief to remain rooted in one true goal. She hopes to cause even a ripple in a wide river, taking small and cautious steps to do something good, something nice, to give hope and make lives better. Journey of Shaswati Phukon THE CONSTANT BATTLE OF CHALLENGING THE STEREOTYPES, SOCIAL STIGMA, TO EDUCATE THOSE IN NEED KEPT HER GOING. 29

Just a shift here, magical change there! Anjali Goel, a Mahavastu certified consultant with an experience of more than 6 years has immense knowledge of Mahavastu. Till date she has worked on more than 200 cases involving houses, offices, and factories from Guwahati. She has addressed and resolved vastu defects of several homes, offices, and factories through Mahavastu methodology invented by ‘Guru Shakha Kushdeep Bansal Ji’. It is not possible to make structural changes for people so through Mahavastu she ensures that the remedies involve no demolition and are as simple as changing furniture placements or painting the home in some specific colours or installing paintings, plants or 3-D mahavastu remedies. Sometimes she also uses ‘astro script’ which is also known as ‘astro-vastu’. During the lockdown, there was a family who had issues in wealth, health and relationships. Anjali used Mahavastu methology to solve their problems. She got the floor plan and found elemental imbalance. Simply by making changes in their wall colour, interior objects and placement of furniture, their issues were rectified. In yet another example, last year, she got a project of a factory which was not operational inspite of all necessary steps taken. It was a foot-wear manufacturing factory. She applied Mahavastu methodology. The factory started functioning and within a year their net worth doubled. One can easily get in touch with her through email or phone and discuss various issues related to health, wealth, relationship, education or setting up a new venture like showroom, office, factory, apartment etc. REMEDIES WITHOUT STRUCTUR AL CHANGES AND DEMOLITION IS POSSIBLE THROUGH SIMPLE CHANGES 32

A: Various salons use various brands. But the most useful and trending facial of today is hydrating facial. Exposure to UV rays, pollution and unpredictable environmental conditions causes damage to the skin. Use of products without proper knowledge also harms the skin. So, opting for a hydrating facial that gently exfoliates and provides regeneration and circulation as well as nourishment and hydration is important. At Burgundy, we use Jeannot Cosmeceuticals. The hydra boost facial is the most suited facial for dry, sensitive, dehydrated, or dull skin. What is the best facial to go for? What is a good hair treatment to get shiny and healthy hair? What kind of morning and evening routine should one follow for hair and skin? What are the current trends in hairstyling, make-up and nails? Q. Q. Q. Q. A: There are several treatments available in the market like keratin, cysteine, botox, botoplex, nanoplastia, smoothening, straightening and the list goes on. But before you opt for anything, understand your requirement and hair type. If you have damaged hair, then it’s advisable to visit a salon and get consultation. A: Nowadays glitter, stones and a pop of colour are all trending. In hairstyling, gold threads and ribbons, colourful strands, stones and pearls are trending. In make-up, matt and pop of colour is being preferred. With nails, new techniques of magnetic, liquid ink style, marble style, 3D flowers, stones and accessories seem to be trending now. A: For hair, shampoo, conditioning, leave-in serum is the standard routine. Twice weekly, I would say is the preferred way. Plus, it’s important to comb your hair and tie it before sleeping. Open hair causes knots and breakage. If u have curly hair, the regime is completely different. For skin, CTM (cleansing, toning, moisturising) is the basic rule. You can add serum and sunscreen in the morning. Depending on the skin condition, collagen-based products can be added. These days people are paying a lot of attention to ingredients like hyaluronic acid and niacin amide. But it’s important to devise a routine under guidance to prevent allergies and reactions. Hopefully, these basic tips would help you take care of your skin and hair better. HAIR, SKIN AND BEAUTY TIPS by Shradha Goenka, Burgundy Salon Whether you are a newbie or someone who is well versed with tips and tricks of the beauty industry, there is always something new to learn about your hair and skin. I was born into a Marwari family in Silchar and grew up observing several religious rites, celebrations and rituals around me. However, I was different. I would do something or follow some belief only if I myself found value and peace in it. I wasn’t someone who would embark on a spiritual journey just because someone else did it or told me to do so. I needed reason and proof to go along anything in life. I can’t remember any particular event or incident that propelled me towards spirituality. The urge to know more about energy and heal people around me led me to higher learning in the spheres of spirituality, pranic healing, use of bach flowers and crystals, meditation, chakra healing and so on. It has been five years since I started this journey towards learning, healing and enlightenment and I’ve been fortunate to receive blessings from many people around me. Whenever I meditate, I always make it a practice to send out pure intentions, goodwill and blessings out into the lives of each one who has come in contact with me. I’m immensely grateful to my mentors and Master Choa Kok Sui for granting me access to divine learning so that I can heal myself and others. During the time when the Coronavirus pandemic created havoc around the world, I spent my evenings in meditation and attending online classes in various modalities related to healing. Whenever I see that my clients found my advice or services useful, it makes me immensely grateful to the divine for making me the medium of healing. There have been incidents wherein my clients have found solutions to their problems within weeks after connecting with me! “More than the monetary aspect, the happiness and healing that they experience give me greater motivation and eagerness to continue my journey towards spirituality and helping others” says Garima Maheshwari of Garima Kreations - a brand which is your guide towards spirituality. If there’s one thing I truly believe in, it’s the power of thought. Our thoughts can make us or break us. It’s imperative to have good, healing thoughts in our minds. Meditation and breathing exercises can magically transform our aura and elevate us to higher consciousness of thought and behavior. In order to manifest, we needn’t spend a lot of time or energy into various processes. However, we must cleanse our minds of negative or sad thoughts if we want to attract happiness. We cannot manifest happiness when our aura in unclean and we still have negativity, fear, anger or trauma within us. Let us build a happy and healed life through pure and divine thoughts, behavior and action through prayer, spirituality and acts of kindness towards one another. “Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, man cannot live without a spiritual life” Buddha Road to Spirituality 37

about Lippan Myriads of tales have been narrated about the Folk Arts of India and a lot has been explored too. However , one such Folk Art known as Lippan Kaam or Chhittar Kaam , popularly known as Lippan Art is still taking its baby steps towards popularity. The word “Lippan” roughly translates to Lep or Lepan , an expression used where camel dung/mud is used to smear the walls to create artistic patterns. Tracing its origin to the Kutch region , Lippan Art has no official records of its beginning. It has been mainly practiced by the Rabari, Kumbhar, Marwada, Harijan and Mutwa communities of the region. The traditional practice of decorating the walls of the huts or bhungas with a mix of camel dung with mud or clay and shattered pieces of glass has now evolved into its modern version which makes the art more durable, portable and odourless. With the addition of modern designs , colors , more sturdy forms of clay and differently cut mirrors, Lippan now is one of the most gorgeous and glittering forms of Folk Art of India. The usage of glass pieces in Lippan art can diffuse the light from a single lamp and buff up any space adding vibrancy extensively. Until few years, this art was either restricted to Kutch or curated in designer stores but now Folktales Handcrafted is in the forefront of bringing this art form into Assam and to its people. As the name goes , Folktales Handcrafted brings you people’s tales crafted in hand through various art forms such as Madhubani, Pichwai, Bengal Folk Art and much more. Arpita Bhattacharjee, the founder and principal artist behind Folktales Handcrafted is a local girl for whom Art is her way of Life. Her art sure brings in happiness to its beholder’s spaces. IT REQUIRES PATIENCE, FAITH, AND PLENTY OF BELIEF TO REMAIN ROOTED IN ONE TRUE GOAL. A Tale 40
