Prologue

Question: Summarize how the month of August is described.
My Answer: The month of August is described as the end of the
year, sad.

Question:Describe what is on Winnie Foster’s mind.
My Answer: Winnie Foster is thinking about running away.

Chapters 1 and 2

Chapter 1 Question: Explain why no one ever goes into the woods.
My Answer: No one ever goes into the woods because they
would be trespassing.

Chapter 2 Question: Explain why Mae is so excited.
My Answer: Mae is excited because the boys are coming home
the next day.

Chapters 3 and 4

Chapter 3 Question:What does Winnie want to do with her life?
My Answer: Winnie wants to run away

My Answer: The stranger asked Winnie if the house she was at

Summarize
Chapters 1-8

In chapters 1-8 of Tuck Everlasting, it describes how Winnie Foster meets the Tucks.
● Winnie lives in an overprotective house in the village of Treegap with her
parents and grandmother.Their house is on the edge of the woods they own
but never go into.
● The Tucks are getting excited to see their sons whom they have not seen in ten
years. Mae is heading off to meet them, but they say that she has to be careful
not to be seen. She does not look in the mirror before she goes because it
says she has looked the same for the past 87 years. May takes along her
music box as she goes off to meet her sons.
● Winnie has a conversation with a toad. She talks about how hard her life is and
she decides to run away.
● That night Winnie heads out to her yard and meets a stranger walking by who
asks her about the woods and the people she knows in the area. He tells her
that he is looking for a family. Winnie’s grandmother comes out to tell Winnie to
go inside. Just then some music is heard in the woods. The grandmother says
it is the elf music she hasn’t heard in years. Winnie thinks it sounds like a
music box and the stranger is very interested in it.
● Winnie decides not to run away and decides to venture the woods. Winnie
meets Jesse Tuck and gets told not to drink from the spring.
● Winnie gets kidnapped by the Tucks and see’s the stranger standing off the
road while Winnie is getting kidnapped but the stranger did not notice. Once
they reached the woods they stopped by the water and told Winnie about the
music box.
● The Tucks told Winnie about how miles was out with the horse and some
hunters mistaken him for a deer and shot him but did not hurt him at all.
Winnie did not believe them.
● The Tucks warn Winnie not to drink the water from the spring. When Winnie
was playing with the Tucks she realized she made friends.



Chapters 9-17

Chapters 9 and 10

Chapter 9 Question:How do the Tucks make the trip easier for Winnie when she feels

hot and tired?

My Answer: The Tucks made the trip easier for Winnie because
they gave Winnie they’re straw hat and Miles carried her some
of the way.

Chapter 10 Question:Analyze the differences between the Tuck’s house and

Winnie’s house.

My Answer:The Tuck’s house is different from Winnie’s house
because the Tuck’s house is dirty, disorganized, and old, as
Winnie’s house is nice and clean.

Chapters 11 and 12

Chapter 11 Question:Analyze the differences between dinner at the Fosters and

dinners at the Tucks.

My Answer:The dinner at The Tuckś Is different from dinner at The
Fosters, because the Tuck´s eat on the ground without any napkins
or table as The Fosters eat at a table with napkins

Chapter 12 Question:What did Tuck mean when he told Winnie that life is a “wheel”

that continues to move around?

My Answer:Tuck meant everything repeats itself, just in a different
way.

Chapters 13 and 14

Chapter 13 Question:Why do you suppose the stranger took the horse?
My Answer:I think the stranger took the horse so he could
deliver the news quicker

Chapter 14 Question:Analyze how Tuck and Mae differ in their opinions about the

horse thief.

My Answer:Tuck and Mae have different opinions because Mae
said that the horse thief is mean for stealing the horse but Tuck
thinks that the horse thief had a good reason.

Chapters 15-17

Chapter 15 Question:Describe the stranger’s plan.

My Answer:The stranger’s plan is to get Winnie to the Fosters
so he can get wood from the trees.

Chapter 16 Question:Explain what the constable learns from the stranger.

My Answer:The constable learn that the stranger is not willing
to to anything unless he gets something in return.

Chapter 17 Question:What did Miles reveal to Winnie about his children during the boat trip?

My Answer:Miles revealed that his kids did not drink from the
spring so they died, and he wished he knew about the spring
earlier so he could save them.

Chapters 9-17

In chapters 9-17 it describes how the stranger finds out about the
magical spring and tells the Fosters where Winnie is.
● Winnie and the Tucks arrive at the Tucks house and Winnie meets
Tuck.
● Winnie explores the house and learns where all the rooms are and
gets ready for supper
● Winnie eats supper and learns they eat dinner at the parlor and don´t
talk while eating. Winnie tells them she knows the stranger. Tuck is
about to take Winnie on a boat ride.
● Tuck took Winnie fishing on the pond and tells her about the bad
things about drinking the water. Someone steals their horse.
● The stranger brings the horse to the Foster´s house to tell them
where Winnie is.
● The Tucks and Winnie go to bed and Winnie wonders what will
happen to the Tucks when her father finds her.
● The stranger makes a deal with Fosters and he tells them where
Winnie is.
● The stranger and the Fosters go to the constable to get help to find
Winnie. And they leave to find Winnie.
● Winnie goes with Miles fishing and Miles tells Winnie about his kids
and he catches a fish and Winnie demands him to throw it back in
the water.

Chapters 18-25

Chapters 18 and 19

Chapter 18 Question:Explain the lie Miles told for Winnie.
My Answer:Mile’s lied by saying they caught fish but none of
them were fish they wanted to eat, when really they didn’t catch
any fish.

Chapter 19 Question:Explain how the Tucks and the stranger knew the same person.
My Answer: The Tuckś and the stranger both knew Winnie
because Winnie talked to Miles and the stranger walked by
Winnieś house and talked to her.

Chapters 20 and 21

Chapter 20 Question:Explain why the constable does not believe the Tucks.
My Answer:The constable does not believe the Tucks, because
he saw the stranger get shot at the Tuckś house by Mae.

Chapter 21 Question:Why weren’t the Tucks charged with kidnapping? Explain.
My Answer:The Tuckś were not charged with kidnapping,
because Winnie said that they did not kidnap her.

Chapters 22 and 23

Chapter 22 Question:Describe the escape plan that Jesse reveals to Winnie.

My Answer:The escape plan is the Tucks will take out the
window bars and Mae will climb out and they will run away.

Chapter 23 Question: Why is the weather so difficult to bear during this time

period?

My Answer:The weather is difficult to bear because the Tucks
and Winnie were about to free Mae and run away but it was
raining so it would be hard to free Mae, because it will be
muddy and slippery to run away.

Chapters 24 and 25

Chapter 24 Question: “Leaving the cottage was like leaving something real and

moving into a dream.” What is the author trying to show with this simile?

My Answer:The author is trying to show that Winnie thinks of
the cottage. As uncomfortable, unwelcoming, and old.

Chapter 25 Question:How much time has gone by since that fateful night?
My Answer:It has been 2 weeks since the night Mae had
escaped, because it said, “It had been a trying two weeks.”

Epilogue

What does the reader learn from the epilogue in this novel? Do
you think the epilogue was necessary? The reader learns how
Treegap has changed and how Winnie didńt drink the water and
when she died.

Chapters 18-25

In chapters 18-25 the stranger tells the Tucks his plan and Mae
accidently kills him. She is then sent to jail.
● Winnie goes fishing with miles and does not catch any fish. They eat
flapjacks for breakfast. When they finish breakfast the stranger
comes to the Tucks house
● The stranger tells the Tucks his plan, they disagree and Mae
accidently kills him, the treegap constable saw what happened.
● The constable studies the stranger nd finds out he is not dead yet.
The constable arrest Mae.
● The constable brings Winnie home and her family treats her well
because they think elves did something to her. The stranger is
reported dead.
● Winnie finds the toad again and wants to give it water, but when she
came back the toad was gone. Jesse found a plan to free Mae, and
then shared it with Winnie.
● Winnie thinks about what would happen if she drank the water at 17
and found Jesse. She leaves her house to go free Mae.
● Winnie helps Mae escape by taking her place in jail. Winnie
hears The Tucks escape.
● Winnie is freed because she is too young to be punished. She
finds the toad again and saved it from a dog trying to eat it. She
then pours the spring water on its head.

however, at the climax it became more
dramatic.

Mae’s place and helped her
escape.

Miles dismantles the jail cell window and The Tuck family continues to stay young
helps Mae escape. Winnie is there to provide while Winnie ages and dies. A fire burns
support. If the constable hears their escape, down the woods and covers the secret
they’re doomed! forever. The toad lives forever because of the
water from Winnie.
Winnie sneaks off into the forest and
discovers a boy drinking from a small Winnie sees a dog wanting
stream. Then his family kidnaps her. to attack the toad so she
rescues him and pours the
Winnie’s family controls her. They won’t fountain water on him.
