2021 | Graduation | RAMPART STROLLS 6 LOCATION: Casbah, Algiers TERM: 2021 | 10th semester Graduation SUPERVISION: Tahari H. Oukaci A. JURY: Kacher S. Lamani K. Bendali A. Kaci M. Since many decades, Algiers Casbah, the city’s original core, saw itself become more and more abandoned. Houses are collapsing leaving behind them voids that are weakening the urban fabric. One of these voids is situated in Sidi Remdan, one of the oldest neighbourhoods and doors to the Casbah. Laying in front of a bastion, a remain of the ancient rampart of the medina, it is nowadays used as a parking. The project aims to consolidate the urban fabric by building the void and marking the entry to the medina while reminding and educating people on the place’s history. The architecture and layout of the building are a reinterpretation of elements from the typical Casbah patio house and military architecture (centered layout, patio, arrowslits, chemin de ronde, nude brick appearance...). It is also a synthesis of the urban experience of the Casbah, a slopped way with framed views and an alternation of light and shadows till it reaches a culminating point with a view on the city and the sea. 26 2020 | 2nd semester | MEDIATRIUM LOCATION: Hussein Dey, Algiers TERM: 2020 | 8th semester SUPERVISION: Djellali D. Horra M. Located in a neighbourhood where there is a number of structures that are dedicated for education, culture and leisure(schools, communal library, sport facility....) Mediatrium is a media library that completes this grid of facilities and offers a new place for learning, socializing, and connecting the community. Starting from the public plaza with its inviting curves to the rooftop that has a 360° view on the city and the sea, the structure develops on 7 floors with a diversity of spaces: a multimedia underground that has recording studios, gaming, VR and multifunctional rooms, two first floors open on the city with a coffeeshop, bookstore and a gallery, a section for each age category (kids, youths, adults) and finally a green accessible rooftop. The media library is organized around an atrium that brings natural day light and ventilation and has stairs that flow in the space allowing us to have a view on each floor as we’re going up and down the building. Floors are also accessible directly from the exterior with stairs that run around the building and connect the street to the rooftop. It animates the facade and offers a new way to see the city. 42 2017 | 2nd semester | SCHOOL GUEST HOUSE LOCATION: El Harrach, Algiers TERM: 2019 | 2nd semester SUPERVISION: Benattallah A. Oukaci A. This final excercise of first year was an introduction to residential architecture. It focused on geometry using references from previous exercices (for my case it was Frank Lloyd Wright, Gerrit Rietveld, Piet Mondrian). The guest house is designed to host invited personalities (architects, artists, reaserchers...), conferences, workshops ...etc. It is located in the part of school designed by Oscar Niemeyer with simple low and horizaontal volumes, cantilivered roofs and raw concrete. This project consists of two main masses, one that holds the workshop and lecture area, it is a direct reference to the architecture of the school with the use of of concrete and appearant overhanging beams. The second mass is the residential part, its outside skin is made of rammed earth, contrasting with the first part and signaling a different function. The general volumetric composition fits in the horizontality of the context. Geometry is based on a Mondrian composition, adapted to the school geometry which uses a 12,5 m module. Further divisions are obtained either by the golden section or by halves. SCHOOL GUEST HOUSE axonometric view of the house in its context

SKETCHES | ALGIERS 48 URBAN SKETCHING It all started in a bus while heading home. We were stuck in trafic, so to pass time I started randomly sketching what was surrounding me in abstract lines, shapes and silhouettes not thinking much about what I was doing. After all, I was just looking to free my mind and find some distraction from that infinite trafic jam. But after a while I started paying more attention to drawing, noticing light and shadows, colors and textures, people and their postures and even their conversations. At that moment I felt more connected to my environment, being really present in that place and experiencing all that was going on. Since then, I started sketching evrywhere and whenever I could with whatever I had in hand. Through time, drawing has gained more meaning to me as it not only allows me to pay more attention to my surroundings, but it’s also an important tool to pen down memories and feelings of the moment.
