Spring Piano School
The 2011 Spring Piano School is for Primary School and Secondary School piano
students, ages 7 to 18. It is a valuable social and educational opportunity for young
pianists.
Students attend either the Junior Program for Primary School students, from Monday October 3 to
Wednesday October 5 or the Senior Program for Secondary School students from Wednesday October
5 to Friday October 7. The young pianists work intensively to consolidate their musical and pianistic skills,
polish their repertoire pieces and socialise with their musical peers. Students explore the world of the
piano in the renovated historic National Trust property Glenfern. The Spring Piano School 2011 is also
wonderful school holiday preparation for AMEB, ANZCA, VCE and other examinations, as well as for
competitions.
Junior Program
for primary school students (and selected Year 7 students*)
Dates and Times:
Monday October 3, 9.30am to 4pm
Tuesday October 4, 9.30am to 4pm
Wednesday October 5, 9.30am to 1.30pm
Students would normally have experienced at least 2 years individual piano tuition. Junior Program
participants should bring 3 – 5 works prepared to a secure standard.
*Year 7 students may attend either the Junior program or the Senior program. Parents of Year 7 students
should contact the Director Robert Chamberlain to determine which program is best for their child.

Keiko Fujii (Guest Tutor, Monday October 3)
Keiko Fujii is a teacher with expertise in composition, arrangement, piano, electronic organ and theory.
She has worked extensively with students of all ages and ability levels in Australia and Japan
• Creativity Workshop: Make your own motif, make your own melody
Prof Max Cooke OAM (Tuesday October 4)
• Workshop Playing Baroque music on the harpsichord. Students will be sent a short piece
suitable for their level and requested to learn it for the workshop.
• Masterclass for advanced Junior Program performers
Senior Program
for secondary school students
Dates and Times:
Wednesday October 5, 2pm to 5pm
Thursday October 6, 10am to 4.30pm
Friday October 7, 10am to 4.30pm
In the Senior Program, students work intensively with the staff in small groups. There will also be
workshop presentations, masterclasses, and individual support from University level assistant tutors.
Secondary School students will receive:
• Intensive tuition in small groups to improve learning, practice, technique and performance skills
• Workshop presentations: Darryl Coote Practice Time: Improving it, enjoying it, using the
metronome, Professor Max Cooke OAM Playing Baroque music on the Harpsichord.
• One to one support from assistant tutors
• A public recital for family and friends, including certificate presentation
Participants in the senior program should bring 3- 4 works prepared to a secure standard.

Observer places for piano teachers:
A limited number of observer places are available each day for piano teachers to observe the 2011
Spring Piano School. Applications processed in order of receipt. Cost $100 per day.
Cost:
Student Participant: $260 (for either the Junior Program or Senior Program)
Additional participants from same family: $140
Piano Teacher Observers (per day): $100
Morning and afternoon tea provided; BYO lunch
Applications for Spring Piano School participants and teacher observers will be processed in order of
receipt.
Book early! Places are strictly limited!
Applications close September 1 or when places are filled (whichever occurs first)
Scholarships, donated by the Friends of the Team of Pianists Inc. (FOTOPS), will be awarded at the
discretion of the staff.

Distinguished international Canadian pianist, Roger Lord, is visiting Australia to perform The C & C Rigg
Bequest Recital Hommage to Franz Liszt for the 200th anniversary of Liszt’s birth (details below).
Dr Lord will present a Public Masterclass at Glenfern on Thursday October 6, 7pm to 10pm.
Masterclass Bookings and Cost:
