What kind of grip are you? We as instructors get this question quite often, and there are
many different answers to this complicated question. If you watch the pro’s today they may
switch their grip several different times during any given point. Here is where this question starts
to define itself, you want to start with the main forehand grip that is best suited for your style of
play. From here we can help you with adding different grips for different shots, based on the
player and match that you are playing.
In general, the eastern or semi-western grip is good for most forehands. The continental
grip should be used for all serves, volleys and slice ground strokes. The backhand should have
the eastern backhand grip, with the one dominate hand either with a one handed backhand or a
two handed backhand.
If you need help developing other grip types or help in knowing when to use them ,Tom,
John or myself are certified by the USPTA. Remember it takes roughly 3-6 months to implement
a new grip that can be used successfully.
USTA Spring League signups for Men’s and Ladies teams coming soon! Please check in with the
shop via email, phone call or stop by so we can get you on a team. Let us know if there are any
questions or concerns, we are here to help. We have had a successful winter and we want to take
that right into the spring, so don’t be left out. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

! Tennis Member of the Month
!! !This month we are recognizing a few people. They are the back bone of our tennis department. Every day they are
relentless in their spirit, enthusiasm and true love of tennis! We here at the tennis center look forward to seeing them
daily. They are a great group of people who tirelessly support the Club and our tennis programs from top to bottom…
!can you guess who they are? Do you have any ideas???
This month it is our pleasure and privilege to honor the members of the Ladies Tennis Association! It amazes me what
they do and how they do it. They are your wives and mothers, who give of themselves to support and play this game
we cherish every day. The LTA has been in place here at NBGCC for 13 years and we could not do what we do every
day without them. From putting together tennis social events, to supporting our USTA junior tournaments, to
supporting our league play, to involving all our members with the best experience at a high quality private country
club of our caliber. It is truly a labor of love and we really thank all of you for being the great ladies you are. I would
like to recognize some ladies who represent the LTA with such grace and dignity:
Former President: Mrs. Bridget Cella, the true definition of a gracious southern lady, thank you for leading us with
style, love and lots and lots of HUGS!!
Former Vice President: Mrs. Kim Hoveland, a classy no nonsense lady who never saw a problem, only a solution to
take care of us all!
Former Chair Member/Current Christmas Luncheon Director: Mrs. ShaRee Frogley, our singer, songwriter,
choreographer, and actress extraordinaire.
These three ladies have just recently turned over the LTA to new officers that I am sure will follow in the footsteps and
walk the hallowed ground that has been set forth by so many ladies that have come before them. Your current LTA
committee members are:
• President: Mrs. Dana Minges
• Vice President: Mrs. Sarah Catharine Gibbs
• Treasurer: Mrs. Danielle Ouano
• Secretary: Mrs. Hannah Mitchell
• Social Chair Ladies: Mrs. Malin Soreff/ Mrs. Jenna Leissner
We are blessed with so many woman in the LTA that support us and we support for all their efforts. We wanted to
honor all of you for all that you do. Tom, John, Max, Georgie, Spencer and Myself say, “thank you so very much.”
