ABSTRACT

This field work practice report aims to find out how to tune up 10000km on a 2005 vios
car. This field work practice was carried out at an independent auto service workshop not in
Widara Umbrella on January 31 to July 15, 2022.

Tune-up is an activity carried out to restore the condition of the machine to its original
condition according to or close to the specifications set by the factory. A machine that is used
continuously will experience various disturbances. This will reduce the performance of the
machine itself, therefore periodic maintenance is needed.

As for the things that need to be done at the time of tune up, namely the first is the
battery, is it in good or bad condition and also checks the battery voltage. Secondly, there is a
cooling system which includes checking the radiator water, the radiator cap and so on. The
third is an air filter, this part is enough to just clean and replace every 20,000km / 1 year.
Fourth, there is an ignition system which is divided into 2, ignition coil and spark plug, for both
items, it is enough to check visually, and specifically for spark plugs, it is necessary to adjust
with a feller gauge. The fifth is a drive belt, this is enough to check for tightness. The sixth is
checking the engine oil, checking the engine oil volume, and changing the oil at 4000km. The
seventh is brake fluid, this is also more or less the same as checking the oil, just see if the oil
is in the full position or not, if not, it must be added. The eighth is to check the wiper or washer
water, it is enough to fill the container completely, and if necessary, add a little soap to the
water mixture.

The vehicle came with a complaint that the vehicle was running stuttering which was
certainly uncomfortable and there was a sense of worry about various things. Therefore,
handling vehicles that involve such symptoms is very necessary for maintenance or tune-ups
such as the following:The condition of the battery case box is still good, there is no dirt on the
battery plug cover, there is dirt on the battery plug cap needs to be cleaned, the battery
terminals are not corroded, the battery electrolyte level is below the Lower line, it is necessary
to add distilled water to the Upper line, the battery density is full 1, 27 kg/cm³. The radiator
cooling water is cloudy and needs to be replaced, no leaks were found in the radiator. Air filter
in dirty condition needs to be cleaned. Throttle cleaned with cleaning water. Ignition coil all in
good condition. Gray spark plugs need to be cleaned, spark plug electrode gaps of 0.6 mm, 0.8
mm, 0.8 mm, 0.9 mm need to be adjusted. Loose drive belt needs to be adjusted. High volume
between the Full and Low limits, the brake fluid quality decreases and needs to be replaced.
Lack of brake fluid, needs to be added. The wiper and washer water doesn't need to be added

After doing a tune up which includes work according to the procedure and has been
discussed on the previous page. Finally the vehicle returned to normal.
