INTRODUCTION

OUR SOLAR SYSTEM IS A BUSY PLACE, CONSISTING, OF EIGHT PLANETS , DWARF PLANETS ,MOONS, ASTEROIDS,
METEROIDS, COMETS, ICE AND HUGE AMOUNTS OF DUST AND GAS THAT ARE ALL TRAVELLING AROUND THE
SUN.SOLAR IS A LATIN TERM MEANING SUN, AND IT IS THIS LARGE YELLOW STAR THAT PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE
IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR SOALR SYSTEM. DUE TO ITS SIZE ( IT CONTAINS OVER 98 PER CENT OF THE
ENTIRE MASS OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM ), THE SUN HAS A VERY POWERFUL GRAVITATIONAL
PUUL,ATTRACTING ALL THE OTHER PLANETS TOWARD IT. ASTRONOMERS HAVE STUDIED THE SOLAR SYSTEM FOR
THOUSANDS OF YEARS AND ARE STILL MAKING NEW DISCOVERIES . THE LARGER ,MORE COMPLEX OBJECT THAT
HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED ARE THE PLANETS AND THEY ALL HAVE DIFFRENT CHARACTERISTICS. THERE ARE FOUR
INNER PLANETS :
MERCURY,VENUS,EARTH AND MARS. THEY ARE SAID TO BE TERRESTRIAL ,IN THAT THEY ARE
COMPOSED MAINLY OF ROCKY ,ARE RELATIVELY SMALL,AND HAVE FEW OR NO MOON.THE OUTER PLANETS
INCLIDE : JUPITER,SATURN,URANUS AND NEPTUNE. THEY ARE CALLED THE JOVIAN PLANETS .THEY
ARE LARGE AND MADE UP OF GAS ,ARE RINGED, AND HAVE MANY MOONS. PLUTO WAS RECLASSIFIED FROM A
PLANETS TO A DWARF PLANET IN 2006.IT IS ACTUALLY MORE LIKE A COMET THAN A PLANET,WITH ONE LARGE
MOON AND THREE SMALL MOONS.

UNI UNIT (2) SUN

Our Sun is a 4.5 billion-year-old star – a
hot glowing ball of hydrogen and helium
at the center of our solar system. The
Sun is about 93 million miles (150
million kilometers) from Earth, and
without its energy, life as we know it
could not exist here on our home planet.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SUN

1)What is the Sun made of? ...
2)How hot is the Sun? ...
3)What would happen to Earth if the Sun didn't exist? ...
4)What happens during an eclipse of the Sun? ...
5)Where on Earth does the Sun shine the most? ...
6)Is there a place on Earth where the Sun does not
rise?
