Faculty Newsletter
Hello BMS Faculty & Staff,
Here we are at the end of February already! Time really does fly when you are
having so many fun and interesting teaching and learning experiences!
Although February is almost over, it is a month in which diversity is celebrated
and recognized. Here are a couple of examples……...
February is Tolerance Month
February is Tolerance Month. Tolerance is respecting the individual differences, views and beliefs of
other people, and being understanding and open-minded about the diversity of others, their opinions,
practices and cultures.
February is Black History Month
February is also Black History Month. Black History Month is an opportunity to celebrate the achieve-
ments and contributions that people of African heritage have made for the world.
Here at BMS we are fortunate to have faculty and staff who are committed to ap-
preciating and recognizing the diversity that exists among our students and each
other!
For more information on what’s to come in March, keep an ear out for the CUBS

Things to know
-School is cancelled through the end of the school year, per the
governor's orders yesterday.
-This raises many questions about close-out, including students turning
computers in, library books, 8th grade RISE ceremony, grade book, etc.
Dr. B has a principal's meeting today where they will discuss a lot of this.
More answers to come.
-Grades: No new assignments should be put into the grade book.
Nothing from virtual learning can be graded. *But* you can put in a
grade from an assignment earlier in the marking period based on the
work they've done virtually.
-Social Media: Things like Instagram and Facebook shouldn’t be
encouraged to connect with students unless we have parent agreement.
We don't want to violate user agreements. It would be wise to use the
tools from Clever.
-Distanced learning: Continue to prepare 90 minutes of learning per prep
per week. This might change per the principal's meeting.
-What to teach: no longer bound by SOL's, this gives many contents a
huge avenue of flexibility. Get creative! It should tie into the content
somehow, but what is something that you've always wanted students to
do but felt like you couldn't because of time? Well, now's your chance!
Things to know Continued
-Contracts: One of the good things about being a teacher is we have job
stability. Contracts for next year are online- not sure the date they will be
coming through.
-Recertification: the deadline may be extended but there has been no
definitive answer yet. If you have everything together, scan/send things to
Staci Marshall-Lee at [email protected]. You can email her with any
of these concerns as well.
Next school year: The governor gave four options for each school division to
choose from, which includes (not in exact words)
1) We’re good; we’re done- keep offering enrichment but no more grading.
Next school year goes on as scheduled
2) Run virtual learning and grade all assignments.
3) Bring some students into school buildings, others are virtual
4) Roll the content they missed will be rolled into
next year
-We don't know what next year looks like. Stay tuned and informed!
Stay healthy, stay safe, stay
connected
-This time already has and will continue to test all of us. There is no playbook
for how to handle a situation like this. This is historic. Sometimes, it doesn't
even feel like reality. It's so important now, more than ever, to lift each other up
and encourage our fellow Cubs and the communities in which we live to get
through this season. This pandemic will eventually end if everyone continues to
do their part. Stay healthy, stay safe, and stay connected Cub Family.

Dr. B would like to reiterate: "I am so proud of how the BMS

we continue rising to the call we will come out of this even
better able to reach our Cubs. You ROCK!!!"
