In the November Edition of Zone Colombo Central, you will
find the projects and events which has been done by our entity
and the upcoming projects and events which will be happening in
the months to come. As always, we highly value the support given

ZONE COLOMBO CENTRAL | YEAR END EDITION

Emerging Entrepreneur 2.0 is an event organized by AIESEC in University of
Colombo in collaboration with AIESEC for the second consecutive time, with
the intention of bridging the gap between entrepreneurial ideas and the
corporate world to explore new markets for innovative ideas. The event will
take the shape of a competition with the main focus being to find
technology-based solutions for existing issues in the educational and
tourism sectors. The event will have no age restrictions for the participants,
calling out all interested participants who will compete in teams consisting
of 3 – 5 members. The event will take place from 17th November to 19th
December and will include diverse spaces for the contestants to exhibit their
ideas. So, for all those of you who harbor innovative ideas but never had the
platform to showcase them, emerging entrepreneur is the competition you
cant afford to miss!

The organizing Committee consists of 12 amazing individuals and is headed
by the talented organizing committee president, Tharsanka Pathmanathan.
The members of the organizing committee are currently working in
different areas such as Partnership Development, Finance, Marketing,
Delegates and Portfolio Management while synergizing

with each other to create a successful and
memorable event. With the registrations for the
event now nearing the deadline the efforts of the
organizing committee will soon be showcased, so
stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks!

The competition will include four main phases. An introductory session will
kickstart the event where all the contestants will be introduced to the
event, investors, and the panel of judges. The next phase of the competition
will be an exhibition where the contestant teams are expected to present
their products to the panel of judges. The third phase will be a consultancy
space where the panel of judges and the investor will help teams improve
their product. The finale of the event will be a platform where the selected
contestants will have the opportunity to showcase their comprehensive
products. Emerging Entrepreneur 2.0 will be the perfect platform for
innovative individuals to showcase their entrepreneurial skills and enhance
their proficiency in business analysis

Emerging Entrepreneur 2.0 is planning to raise impressive partnerships for
the event which will ensure the success and the smooth sailing of the
entire event. Through the support of the partners the Emerging
Entrepreneur 2.0 organizing committee wants to guarantee that the event
will be one of the most talked about events in the upcoming calendar.
Last but not least we must not forget the pillars of strength behind the
organizing committee of Emerging Entrepreneur 2.0, our very own
Executive Board of AIESEC in University of Colombo. The executive Board
members have aided the organizing committee throughout the entire
endeavor and has been committed to ensure that the event will be a
success, so their commitment and hard work has to be appreciated along
with the organizing committee.

Adapting to the new normal, Excvellentia 2022 will also follow all the strict

health guidelines in place to help keep the members safe while celebrating their

achievements. The Executive Board for the year 21.22 is currently collaborating

with the Organising Committee,

which was announced in early December

We For You

The We for You event series is a unique way to make a powerful impact on
society brought to you by the incoming Global Volunteer function of AIESEC
in University of Colombo. This event series seeks to foster educational spaces
on the basis of inequality for differently able people and the LGBTQA+
community. They achieve this goal by empowering differently-abled people
and the LQBBTQA+ community to uplift their future and to stop discrimination
based on gender and disability.

We for You consists of three phases. The First phase is a Shramadana
Campaign which will be centred around a selected special education school,
helping them make the area around the school safer and pleasant thus
helping the children utilize the space. Phase two consists of a series of panel
discussions on creating awareness in the society regarding the LGBTQA+
community and children who are differently-abled especially because of the
negative connotations surrounding these groups of people in Sri Lankan
society. The last phase will be a day spent with a differently-abled children’s
community doing entertainment activities and giving these children an
opportunity to showcase their talents. The Organizing Committee for We For
You believes and hopes that there will be a day that these discriminated
communities will one day live accomplished, happy lives with the blessing of
society and that their efforts will be fruitful in this endeavour.

Who is Induwara?

I am a first-year computer science undergraduate at UCSC. I am
a team leader in oGV of AIESEC in University of Colombo and the
head of showcasing in the marketing team. I am more of a
designer and a creative individual. I adore playing the position of
a leader, and AIESEC inspires me to do so.

Who is Uthpalani?

I am a first-year undergraduate studying Information Systems at
the University of Colombo School of Computing. I am now
occupied as a team member in H4TF as well as a specialist in the
Business Development team. I am a person who enjoys taking on
new challenges and works hard.

What motivated you to become an AIESECer?

At first, I mistook AIESEC for a volunteer organization. So, I applied to AIESEC
because I wanted to volunteer. However, after joining AIESEC, I discovered that
the organization is much more than just volunteering. It's more about growing
as a leader. As a result, I began to like my AIESEC journey and realized that I
needed to remain with it in order to improve my leadership abilities.

What is Careergraph 2.0?

Careergraph 2.0 is a series of virtual sessions organized by the business
development team of AIESEC in University of Colombo with the intention of
educating youth on leadership and soft skills development in order to prepare
them to achieve their dream career paths and to develop their personalities.
Even though, careergraph2.0 is organized for the second consecutive time, it is
quite different from the first phase. Sessions were conducted to school leavers,
undergraduates and AIECER’s. The guest speakers were well-known
outstanding figures who had achieved success in their careers.

What are your expectations when joining Careergraph 2.0? inalaphtU

I joined the business development team recently. Therefore, I always wanted
to get to know my team well. It is one of the main expectations of me joining
careergraph 2.0. Also, I wanted to get the experience of organizing an event in
a virtual context. Apart from that, I wanted to improve my soft skills like
teamwork, self-confidence, time management, dealing with the corporate
world, etc. I am really glad to say I was able to achieve all of my expectations
through this. Here I would like to thank our event manager and the whole
organizing committee for supporting me to achieve those.

Induwara What is your role in OC and why did you apply for that?

I was the Organizing Committee Vice President marketing. I applied for marketing

because I enjoy creating and I prefer using technology to increase the reach of an

were tired with webinars. So, we created several marketing strategies, such as

Careergraph 2.0 was a good platform for youth to improve themselves. I feel
that many delegates were able to get a great experience through this and"
their feedbacks proved it. It was quite fantastic to get positive comments from
delegates. As the organizing committee we are humbly proud about it. So, I do
not have many things to change in Careergraph 2.0. However, I believe the
topics we picked were quite typical. We would be able to attract more
participation if we choose some unusual topics. There were also several
speakers during the day. I believe it would be better if we only had one
speaker per day. Other than that, in my perspective Careergraph 2.0 went
really well.

How was the overall OC experience?

The project was a great experience for us OC members which was also a
pleasant and interesting event. As OCVP marketing, I had the opportunity to
collaborate with every VP and that was a fantastic opportunity to learn about
the responsibilities of other members of the OC. Before joining Careergraph
2.0, I was a member of several other OCs. I joined Careergraph mostly to get
more understanding about business development, career guidance and
leadership development through the event. So, I believe I had the experience I
anticipated. So, if you're an AIESEC member, I'd encourage you to apply for
chances because they come and go, and they're not waiting for us. We must
seize them and recognize their worth.

International Career Fair is an event organized by AIESEC in
University of Colombo that promotes the internship and work abroad
opportunities that are available through the Outgoing Talent and
Teacher products of AIESEC. This year it is held for the second
consecutive time with the hope of providing a wealth of insight and
knowledge into the opportunities for Sri Lankan youth to go on a
successful journey in their career path.

The organizing committee is currently gearing up for a successful launch of ICF 2.0
as a two-day event on 9th and 10th December, covering the most popular fields
of the business world today: Business Administrations, Business Development,
Finance, Engineering, IT, Marketing and Teaching.

When it comes to the Organizing Committee of this
year's International Career Fair 2.0, AIESECers from
all the products of AIESEC in University of Colombo
have become a part of the organizing committee. It
consists of two organizing committee presidents
while there are about thirteen organizing
committee vice presidents. Isuru Nishadha, who
was the organizing committee vice president for
International Relation in International Career Fair 1.0
which was held last year, has been selected as one
of the two organizing committee presidents this
time and Pavani Mandira who was also a part of
the International Career Fair 1.0 organizing
committee has been selected as the other
organizing committee president along with him.
Other than the Co-Organizing Committee
Presidents, 13 hard-working AIESECers are
covering the areas of International Relations,
Delegates, Finance & Events, Marketing, and
External Relations to make this event a success.

This time, Lishani Suriyampola and Nuwan
Fernando who are the local committee vice
presidents for outgoing global talent product in
AIESEC in University of Colombo are working as
event managers for International Career Fair 2.0.
These days, all the executives of AIESEC in
University of Colombo including these two event
managers are giving their maximum contribution
by providing advice, and guidance to the
Organizing Committee to achieve success for the
event. They are the silent heroes and the backbone
of the organizing committee.

There is another reason for the event to be successful. And they are nothing else
but the partners of International Career Fair 2.0. When it comes to the partners of
this event, those partnerships span internationally and locally. Local partners are
the ones who give monetary support for the event. Four partnership opportunities
called title, Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze have been introduced for the
event and currently, the organizing committee vice presidents for external relations
have raised 5 partners including one gold partnership and four bronze
partnerships.

Accordingly, Sanasa General Insurance company has already joined hands with
this event as the gold partner. Furthermore, Imperial College of Business
Studies (ICBS), Classic Travel (Pvt) Limited, EVS Visa Services PLC, and
Avtrasoft Lanka (Pvt) Ltd have partnered up as the bronze partners with
International Career Fair 2.0.

As the Organizing Committee is still in the process of obtaining partners,
there is still a great opportunity for Sri Lankan companies to be involved in
this wonderful event as partners in the aforementioned partnerships of title,
platinum, gold, silver, and bronze.

We have only a few days left to see the results of the hard work of the organizing
committee and everyone behind the scenes. As another AIESECer, I'm very
confident that all of their efforts will be successful and it will be added to the
memories as another great event held in AIESEC in University of Colombo. So if you

Leader in you is one of the newest initiatives of AIESEC in University of
Colombo as a means of molding young individuals into leaders with
exemplary personalities who are capable of taking up leading roles in their
future careers.

Leader in You focused on students who have successfully
completed their advanced level examinations who are awaiting exposure to
their higher education and careers soon after. ‘Leader in You’ disseminated
knowledge and awareness to these students by a series of seminars of two
types that were conducted aligned with the two major categories, personal
development and professional development to help in shaping the
attitudes, skills and knowledge gained by young individuals who are to take
up challenges in the society and in their future professions.

The first phase of Leader in You successfully concluded upon the
completion of the series of six seminars to international (private) schools
conducted from the 27th September to the 27th October 2021. The topics
for main sessions were based on either personal or professional
development and each seminar was followed by fun activities to uplift
engagement of the participants. These sessions were done on important
topics like “Public speaking and presentation skills”, “Diverse career
paths and career selection”, “Leadership skills and teamwork”, “Time
management”, “CV writing and maintaining of Linkedin profile” and
“Mindfulness activities and techniques”.

Leader in You also acted as a platform for all its participants to be
introduced to global volunteering and heading for the future programs that
will provide them with the opportunity to develop themselves further with
regards to personal and professional development.
