Ben Hill United Methodist Church WOMEN’S DAY WEEKEND OCTOBER 14 - 15, 2017

Dear Ben Hill Family and Guests,

It has been a pleasure to work with the dedicated, spirit-filled, and purpose-filled women who com-
prised the Women’s Day Committees. Throughout this journey, which began in early 2017, we have
been blessed to see the hard work of each committee come to fruition. Much preparation was com-
pleted by all and for that, we are extremely grateful. To God be the glory for each of you! We are
grateful for Pastor Thomas and the entire Ben Hill pastoral staff for their support in Women’s Day
and outreach events leading up to Women’s Day!

For our theme this year, we took the opportunity to build upon the Ben Hill vision statement: “To
share God’s love and make disciples of Jesus Christ by connecting people to God and one another
wherever they are and across generations.” We are delighted to have the opportunity to share with
you some of the ways in which we, as a community for Women’s Day, helped build relationships
inside and outside the walls of Ben Hill United Methodist Church. The Communications Committee
held a Social Media &You Workshop on August 5th with members of Jewels & Partners attending.
One of the highlights from the workshop was to see our youth assisting our Jewels & Partners with
learning the workings of Facebook. This was truly a demonstration of ‘across all generations’. The
Outreach Committee shared God’s love and connected across generations during two outreach
events. The first event was with My Sister’s House where volunteers expressed God’s love by feeding
and getting to know the residents. The second event was the Awesome Girls Tea for 5th grade girls
and their parents at Fickett Elementary school. A third event is planned with Hands On Atlanta.

A special thank you to our honored guests Rev. Dr. Khalia Williams and LaQuitcha L. Washington
(Comedienne Lady Q). We are thankful and grateful that you accepted our invitation to come and
share with us for Women’s Day 2017! We hope that as you poured into us over the weekend, we
poured into you as well in a special Ben Hill way! Please feel free to come and visit us in the future.
We would love to have you!

As we continue to grow as women answering the call, our prayer is: “God, as we arise and take our
place, help us to explore the possibilities for greater ministry. Help us to recognize opportunities
outside the walls of Ben Hill United Methodist Church and to act! Walk with us after Women’s Day
because we recognize that You call us every day to take our place. And by taking our place, we are
to share Your love by connecting people to God wherever they are.”

Be blessed Women of God and Happy Women’s Day 2017!

In God’s Love,
EDEN MABRY AND DEBRA ALFORD Women’s Day 2017 Co-Chairs

Women’s Day Sermonic Scripture

LUKE 8:43-48

And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve
years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched

the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.“Who
touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master,

the people are crowding and pressing against you.” But Jesus said,
“Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.” Then
the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and

fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had
touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to

her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”

across generations and was received by the students based on their responses. We were blessed to have an average

of 16 students each Sunday with the third Sunday attendance reaching 26. The students expressed that they were

encouraged by the teachings they heard and the people they met. Their comments indicated Ben Hill to be a

welcoming and warm congregation. We must not stop...our work has only begun! Look for more on maintaining
