from the characters in her books. As you read the book, box in all of the

at the “Jessica” chapter and record any of the book titles you noted on
this slide. Place an “x” in the “I read this” column if you also have read
this book.

November Choice #1: Newbery Medals
Mr. Terupt had his class read Summer of the Swans by Betsy Byars. This book won the
Newbery Medal in 1971.
On a large sheet of construction paper, create a poster displaying past and present
winners of the Newbery Medal.
Your poster should include:
● A list of all the winners
● Several facts about the Newbery Medal
● At least two “spotlights” (detailed information about the book) on favorite Newbery
Winners.
Take a picture of your completed poster and insert it in the box below.

December Choice #4: Holiday Research
Mr. Terupt breaks up his class into groups to create holiday centers. You
will be doing something related if you choose this option.
You can choose to work by yourself for this project or with others (up to 3
people in a group). If you choose to work with others who do not have
the novel connection station at the same time you do, you will need to
meet on your own time to plan and divide up the work.
You will research a holiday that none of the people in your group
celebrate.
Create an artifact to teach others about your holiday. You could make a
Google Slide presentation, a poster, a 3-D artifact, a video, or another
idea you approve through your teacher.
Place evidence of your artifact in the box below:
December Choice #2: Bully Research
Because of Mr. Terupt shows us several incidents of bullying. Often
times we look at bullying to be harmless fun, but bullying is very serious.
Research bullying and come up with a Bully Project that your class can
do to help eliminate bullying.
Create an artifact to teach others about bullying and what others can do
to stop it. You could make a Google Slide presentation, a poster, a 3-D
artifact, a video, or another idea you approve through your teacher.
Place evidence of your artifact in the box below:
No new activities: Continue work on previous
novel connection projects.
Scattergories: Mr. Terupt plays scattergories
on a reward day with some students. Get a
copy of the simplified version from the
materials bin and play with your team. When
finished, continue work on previous novel
connection projects.
