Glossary

Layups - a one-handed shot made from near the basket, especially one that
rebounds off the backboard.

Backboard- an upright board behind the basket, off which the ball may rebound.

NBA- T he National Basketball Association (NBA) is the foremost professional
basketball league in the United States.

WNBA- W omen's National Basketball Association

Reach- T he specific foul that they're calling (and is often called a "reach in" foul) is
the defensive player touching the offensive player ("making contact") in a
disallowed way.

Fouls- A foul out occurs when a player exceeds his or her personal foul limit for a
game and is disqualified from participation in the remainder of the game.

Descriptive

A uniform is what helps you recognize a player. Usually a player's uniform
will have their school name or team name. For example, my basketball jersey
has my school name on it. Also, it has your number on it. My basketball
number is 14, I have been 14 on every single basketball jersey. Another thing
is that your jersey is normally a shorts and a thick sleeved tank top. You
jersey will have two different colors. On color you wear or home games and
one color you wear for away games!

(This is not my basketball uniform but it gives you the idea)

Sequence

Both left and right l ayups are very easy steps to getting to the basket and
are easy as well. First, Start at the wing or 3 point line. Second, Start
dribbling with your right hand . Then, pick up the ball starting to step with
your right foot . Next, step with your left foot. You should be close to the
basket but not under it. Finally, Step off of your inside foot (left foot)
shooting the ball at the corner of the backboard with your right hand.

Layup Steps

Compare & Contrast

The NBA and the WNBA have some similarities. Boys and girls are driven by
winning. They have the determination and they have to make sure they know
their fundamentals. But, they also have a lot of differences. The NBA
players earn $5 million a year. Yet, the WNBA makes 72,000 a year. Also, if
you watch NBA game and then a WNBA you can tell that a men’s game is
more fast pace. In WNBA game, you can tell that the game is slower but
they take more time making sure their plays are clean and done right.

Cause and Effect

Practicing is very important when you play a sport. If you don’t practice, you
don’t improve. Therefore, you become the weakest on the team. When you
become the weakest on the team, the coaches start to notice. If the
coaches start to notice, you don’t get as much playing time. If you don’t play
as much, you get cut from the team. This causes you to practice harder for
next year.

Problem and Solution

The problem is that you r each when you're trying to steal the ball. As a
result, you will get a foul and you only get five f ouls in a game. In order to
fix the problem. You need to learn how to properly hit the ball out of bounds
without reaching. You need to slide your feet with you player and hit it with
you outside hand so you don’t go “through the player.” If you do, you will get
a foul. For this reason only, is why you want to reach properly.
