Seniors Last Will and Testaments from June 1969 Krabba Highlight

I, CLYDE MURPHY, leave my role as goat of the athletic department to Steve Bowler and hope he
is as lucky with Mr. Seymour as I was.
I JUDY HENDIN, bequeath to my teachers and to Mrs. Davidson a jar of tranquilizers.
I, FOLEY JONES, bequeath to Mrs. Gebhardt one year’s free membership in the “party”… my
locker full of Dick Gregory posters to Mrs. Peyton … three shopclass garbage cans to be used in
preparing food in the cafeteria.
I, GRACE BOWMAN, leave to Mrs. Gebhardt all the luck of the Irish and hope she catches a
leprechaun.
I KATHY HILL, being of sound mind and body bequeath to Coach Palmer one large unused
portion of canned laughter. May he use and enjoy it in good health.
I HAL MATTHEWS, leave my intelligence, my spontaneous reactions, my good looks, and my
unique body to Mr. Bert Carr and to Fred Balmer Baby.
I, BUDDY HIMES, leave my old trombone to Mack Thornton if he promises to always throw it
around, never clean it out, and get at least three dents in it at each football game.
I, TONY ROSSO, do hereby leave Richard Wallio my track shoes, in hopes that he will make his
move and not die.
I, DAVID ALEXANDER, leave for V.M.I knowing that somehow next year won’t be the same.
I, GAIL NIXON, leave Mrs. Cox my singing typewriter so that she may hear many happy hours of
the Lone Ranger.
I, BOB WILSON, leave Mrs. Orcutt to her husband.
I, CHIP PARADISE, thank Miss Sweeney for all the compliments she paid me, all those nights
without homework, and all those A’s I received on her tests which made my last semester in high
school so enjoyable.
I NANCY LEAH JONES, leave Miss Sweeney all my questions and giggles and Mr. Swiggett my
ability to follow his directions to the note.
I BOBBY PHILLIPS, leave my HI-Q pest to next year’s captain in hopes that he will make better use
of it.
I, BUDDY ROUTTEN, leave my side burns to Bill Daughtry.
I, TONY HAYNES, being of neither sound mind nor body after three years of Hampton do hereby
leave Mama “G” to all lucky juniors and Miss Sweeney to all unlucky juniors.
I, DEBBIE PASCHALL, leave Hampton High School in hopes that there is a better world
somewhere else.
I, JOEL STEIN, leave an unfinished ode to Mrs. Gebhardt, seven sonnets to Mrs. Orcutt and all my
fake excuses to Mrs. Williams.
I, LARRY COOPER, leave HHS to the younger groups of kids, and hope that Coach Russell can find
another great year like “69.”
I, ROBIN DARLING, leave to Foley Jones a magnolia tree to be planted in Morningside Heights.
I, KAREN KOSTYAL, leave Mr. Solomon a cultural awakening which he so anxiously awaits.
I, CHRIS WILSON, leave Mr. Swiggett a piece of gum and a wisecrack.
I, RICK JACOBSON, leave hoping that next year Col. Wilkinson can get his experiments to work.

“Do You Remember When”

“Do you remember when”… these are special words to all;
The miracle of memory, the blessed gift to recall.

Our life, a chain of memories, full of laughter and of tears;
Without notice in our youthful days, they get fonder through the years.

So relax your mind and come with me as we travel back in time;
A lengthy trip of 50 years back to 1969.

50 years….that can’t be right, we’re barely beyond our youth!
Look again, my friend, take a good hard look, the mirror tells the truth.

“You only live once” it’s often said, and this we can’t ignore;
But reminisce and live your life a hundred times or more.

So, close your eyes and close your ears, let your mind give sight and sound;
And together we’ll be young again, many memories to be found.

Now be real still and listen close, the old stadium seats are full;
As we listen to the marching band, play the tune of Lonely Bull.

It’s Turkey Day, the whole town’s there, continuing the lore;
All dressed up, corsages and ties, as we trounce the Typhoons once more.

And remember the trip to Charlottesville, hotels were not to be found;
We were destined to win it all, to be the best from all around.

Led by Foley and Dino and Pat and Mike, they secured the last two wins;
But we’re still not convinced even to this day, that Ron and Don were twins.

Wrestling and Swimming and Chess teams too, were winners standing tall;
So much for us to cheer about, tradition envied by all.

Pep Rallies in the HHS gym, we showed the red and white pride;
Our rivals learned, “YOU CAN’T CRUSH A CRAB”, no matter how they tried.

“Do You Remember When” (cont’d)

Oh what fun – to reminisce, when we lived such simple lives;
Dances at Willis, WGH, 8-track tapes and 45s.

Donut Dinette, Robbie’s Drug Store, and Giant Open Air;
Hip-hugger pants and bell-bottoms too, provided the fashion flair.

The days of Buckroe Amusement Park, cruising along 1st street;
Riding the rides were done by a few, but mostly a place to meet.

The carousel, the Tilt-a-Whirl, the Ferris Wheel high above;
The rickety sound of the roller coaster and the silence of the Tunnel of Love.

CRT tokens and Shoney’s Drive Inn are a distant thing of the past;
Gone is the 15-cent burger, and fast food is no longer fast.

Drive-in movies, the full service station, are not what they used to be;
The James River Bridge is considerably wider – but then again, so are we!

Yes, things have changed; we’re no longer cool; nor can we say “I dig it.”
Instead we have swag and bling and hashtags; don’t speak but rather tweet it.

Hindsight confesses our dances were strange; the Twist, Mashed Potatoes and Jerk
But let’s get real, that pales compared to Gangnam Style and the Twerk!

They say that wisdom comes with age, and these golden years are a treat
But we struggle to see that pot of gold; heck we can’t see our feet!

So it’s time to fess up, we’re seniors now; most of our life in the past;

Like the end of a roll of toilet paper; man it sure seems to go fast.

So cherish each minute with your old friends, for reunions are quite a treat;

And with a class as large as ours, we still have friends to meet.
And as we come to this place this day, where in secret we can still say “nifty”

Let’s milk each minute for all it’s worth, as we celebrate #50.

Hampton High Alma Mater & Fight Song Lyrics

69 Alma Mater

Hampton High, to thee we raise
Songs of joyous praise.
Glory, laud and honor,
We sing to thee always.

Red and White thy colors be
For faith and loyalty.

Thy fame be ever shining

As far as eyes may see.

Through the doors we enter

In search of truth, the key.

To the skies thy praises soar

HAMPTON, evermore !

Fight Song H

Here’s to Hampton High School;
Here’s to H.H.S.

Here’s to our football team
Is it fine? Oh, yes! Oh yes! Oh yes!

Victorious or defeated,

We will always fight

For Alma Mater and that old Red & White.

Red & White, Red & White, H
We will fight with all our might

As old Hampton goes fighting along.
Blue & Gold, Blue & Gold,
You will never, ever hold

As old Hampton goes fighting along.

For it’s “Ray! Ray! Ray! S
Raise your colors gay:
Come on, put pep into your song.
For where ‘er you go, you will always know
That old Hampton goes fighting along!

Watch ‘em fight!
That old Hampton goes fighting along!

Mighty right!
