ALT Fire Safety & Improvement Council: Chipping
Ed Grout ([email protected])
The ALT POA provides a chipping service for ALT residents.
After trimming trees, or clearing brush and manzanita from their
property, many residents question, “What do we do with the
brush pile?” One option is to fill out a Chipping Request on the
ALT website – auburnlaketrails.org or in-person at the ALT office.
The Chipping Program allows for chipping of material less than six
(6) inches, comprised of nonpoisonous plants. The chipping pile
should be placed at the street and arranged as shown in the
graphic.
The Chipping Form is also
used to document community
hours and dollars spent on
creating and maintaining
Defensible Space. The POA
performed over 700 chipping
operations last year.
The FSIC uses the information
on the Chipping Forms in the
annual application to the
National Fire Protection
Association for its Firewise USA® Community Designation.

The El Dorado County Vegetation Management & Defensible Space Ordinance
(Ordinance No. 5101, Chapter 8.09) requires an ongoing commitment to be successful!
• Vegetation Management is controlling plant material to prevent wildfire spread.
Start vegetation management tasks early to prepare for the spring inspections.
• Defensible Space is the area around a structure where combustible vegetation that can
spread fire has been cleared, reduced or replaced.
• For improved parcels, any structure qualified for occupancy per the County Building Code
(greater than 120 sq. ft.) is required to have minimum defensible space of 100-feet from
each side of the structure.*
• Good Neighbor Policy: neighbors working together! Adjacent property owners may be
required to assist their neighbor and clear a portion of their own land to give the neighbor
their full 100-feet of defensible space.*
*Review the Vegetation Management and Defensible Space Ordinance for more details.

Why You Should Join the ALT Dolphins Swim Team!
Amanda Dunphy, Dolphin Mama
Have you been searching for ideas to keep your kid(s) entertained and active this summer? Trying to find a way to avoid the dreaded non-stop re-
quests for snacks and shows and avoid the constant “I’m hot and bored!” exclamations? Well then, search no further!
I am a mom of 3 who was in the same boat last Summer and I found the cure. Joining the ALT Dolphins swim team! It provided a daily escape for the
kids to go swim while learning and wearing themselves out. I loved that they made new friends and also were able to catch up with current ones who
also happened to be on the swim team. Plus, the coaches were fantastic and my kids loved them!
Not to mention, attending a sports event on hot summer days isn’t always fun, but it is when it is a swim meet! As spectator sports go, this one is my
favorite. You get to set up your own little chillax station and get splashed whenever you want, surrounded by the nostalgic smell of a pool on a sum-
mer morning!
Still not sure if Swim Team is the right fit? Check out the feedback from a few of our very own Dolphins!
