Learning Target: I can compare and contrast two or more
characters, settings, or events in a story, drawing on specific
details in the text.

Background of this Story:
In some countries around the world the government is

called a dictatorship. In a dictatorship, one person or a small
group of people have complete control of the country. In many
cases the military enforces the control. If a person does not
follow the rules, they may be arrested, threatened, scared, or
tortured. The citizens of that country are not allowed to talk or
act against the dictatorship. A person can be rewarded if they
tell the dictatorship about other people who are against the
government.

Interpretive Question: How does the dictatorship
system of government in the story affect Pedro, his
family, and the citizens it governs?

important information.

The article “World War II and the Holocaust” shows

how Adolf Hitler set out to rule the world. He came into power

Jewish people were relocated. In these camps over 6 million

Background of this Story:
“For centuries, the Star of David was a symbol of Jewish

pride. But during World War II, Nazis used the Star to
segregate and terrorize the Jewish people. Except in
Denmark. When Nazi soldiers occupied his country, King
Christian X of Denmark committed himself to keeping all
Danes safe from harm. The bravery of the Danes and their
king has inspired many legends. The most enduring is the
legend of the yellow star, which symbolizes the loyalty and
fearless spirit of the king and his people.”

How does this picture relate to the chapter?

My Thoughts:
The picture can relate to the book because
when the sister is telling a story it said ¨There
once was a King and a Queen and a beautiful
daughter, and they lived in a palace.¨ But in the
picture here it's barely any different. There is a
King, and a Queen, and a hansom sun, and
they also live in a palace.

Chapter 4

How does this picture relate to the chapter?

My Thoughts:
The picture can relate to chapter 4. On page 30 it says ¨ We

shall go to Tivoli to dance and watch the fireworks, and
maybe there will be some handsome men there!¨ And on the

pictures it shows fireworks and they said ¨ Tivoli to dance
and watch the fireworks.¨ On page 31 it says ¨ I remember
the fireworks the most.¨ That can also relate to the picture

because she was talking about her remembering the
fireworks the most. And on page 31 it says ¨ Annemarie
scoffed. You never saw the fireworks. So maybe she didn't
see the fireworks at all. Those are my reasons why I think

the pictures do relate.

Chapter 6

How does this picture relate to the chapter?

My Thoughts:

(Can be expressed in bulleted points or paragraph)
This picture can relate a lot. On page 53 it says ¨Im sending inge to you
today with the children, and she will be bringing you a carton of
cigarettes. On page 53 it also says ¨ But there are a lot of cigarettes
available in Copenhagen¨ And in both of these they are talking about
cigarettes and they can relate to the picture. And lastly on page 53 it says ¨
Annemarie was quite certain it wasn't true. Cigarettes were the things
that Papa missed the most, the way Mama missed coffee. Those are some
of the reasons why I think the picture can relate to chapter 6.

Chapter 12-13

How does this text relate to Number the stars and
particularly Annemarie in chapter 13?

My Thoughts:

On page 101 the chapter is called “Run! As Fast As You Can!” And in the book The
Man In The Red Bandanna when he is trying to help people get out of the building
he says “Run! As Fast As You Can!”. On page 101 it also says “I’m alright, really.
Don’t worry. And the Rosens are with Henrik. That’s the important thing.” That
can relate because in the book The Man In The Red Bandanna he wasn’t scared
for himself, he was scared for the other people in the building. That is why he was
helping them and not himself. On page 101 it also says “Henrik was there waiting,
on the boat, and he took them aboard and down below so quickly to the cabin
that they were in an instant. So Mama is trying to save other people. That is some
proof that she is only trying to save the Rosens. And in the book The Man In The
Red Bandanna he keeps going up and down the stairs to try and save people, he

isn’t saving himself at all, he is saving other people
