Notice to Boat Manufacturer or Installer
!
Throughout this publication, safety alerts labeled WARNING and CAUTION (accompanied by the symbol ) are used to alert
the mechanic to special instructions concerning a particular service or operation that may be hazardous if performed incorrectly
or carelessly. Observe these alerts carefully.
These safety alerts alone cannot eliminate the hazards that they signal. Strict compliance to these special instructions when
performing the service, plus common sense operation, are major accident prevention measures.
! WARNING
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
! CAUTION
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury.
Additional alerts provide information that requires special attention:
NOTICE
Indicates a situation which, if not avoided, could result in engine or major component failure.
IMPORTANT: Indicates information essential to the successful completion of the task.
NOTE: Indicates information that helps in the understanding of a particular step or action.
This manual is provided by Mercury Marine to assist the boat original equipment manufacturer (OEM) with the installation of the
products described herein. The manual assumes that the installers are familiar with the recommended installation procedures
for Mercury Marine products.
We cannot anticipate or advise the marine trade of all conceivable installations and the potential hazards and results of each.
The OEM is responsible for any installation that does not fulfill the requirements of this manual.
The boat manufacturer is responsible for selecting the appropriate controls for any particular boat and power package
combination.
Contact a Mercury product integration engineer (PIE) for additional assistance. For assistance outside the United States,
contact the local Mercury office or authorized distributor.
All information, illustrations, and specifications in this manual are based on the latest product information available at time of
publication. Mercury Marine reserves the right to make changes at any time without obligation. As required, revisions to this
manual will be sent to all OEM boat companies.

5. Snap the ERC cover into place on the ERC. Press firmly on the four corners to ensure that the tabs are fully engaged and
the cover is flush with the surface of the ERC.
71673
NOTE: If the ERC cover must be removed:
1. Use a small flat‑blade screwdriver or equivalent tool to pry around the perimeter of the cover, separating the cover from the
ERC plastic housing. Use care to not mar the ERC.
2. Discard the used ERC cover and replace it with a new one.

Legacy Controls
Legacy ERCs
Legacy electronic remote controls (ERCs) can be used with this rigging architecture, provided the proper components are
added. Each of these ERCs requires a legacy control module (LCM) and a LCM harness.

LCM and Adapter Harness
Dry fit all helm components in their proposed locations to ensure that the harness can reach them without pulling or binding.
Then install the pieces with the slack toward the component to aid in future service.
When installing the LCM, be certain to leave a minimum of 10 cm (4.0 in.) for service clearance on the connector side of the
LCM (shown in the illustration following).
Install LCM so that the LCM connector faces downward, to minimize water intrusion.
The mounting dimensions for a LCM are shown in the illustration following.

Flush Mount Trim Switch Installation
! WARNING
Performing service or maintenance without first disconnecting the battery can cause product damage, personal injury, or
death due to fire, explosion, electrical shock, or unexpected engine starting. Always disconnect the battery cables from the
battery before maintaining, servicing, installing, or removing engine or drive components.
! CAUTION
Avoid injury or product damage. Obstructions, such as braces and wiring, may be unseen when looking at the front of the
dashboard. Before drilling or cutting any holes in the dashboard, check the area behind the dashboard for obstructions. Do
not drill or cut when obstructions are present.
NOTE: For the triple and quad‑engine flush mount trim switch, there are two optional cut out templates to use for modifying the
dashboard. Choose the template that best suits the installation.
1. Disconnect the battery cables from the battery.
2. Cut out the appropriate template and select a location that provides adequate accessibility.
3. Verify the area behind the selected location is clear of obstructions and wires.
4. Apply masking tape to the area that will be removed to prevent chipping and cracking. Tape the template to the dashboard.

Bezel Removal
On the backside of the trim switch assembly, carefully push on three corners of the bezel to remove the bezel.
32618
Bezel Replacement
1. Verify the trim switch is properly located in the switch housing.
2. Align the bezel with the trim switch and housing.
3. Starting at one corner, press the bezel onto the switch housing at each corner. The bezel will snap into place.

Triple and Quad‑Engine Trim Switch
Preparation
! WARNING
Performing service or maintenance without first disconnecting the battery can cause product damage, personal injury, or
death due to fire, explosion, electrical shock, or unexpected engine starting. Always disconnect the battery cables from the
battery before maintaining, servicing, installing, or removing engine or drive components.
1. Disconnect both battery cables.
! CAUTION
Avoid injury or product damage. Obstructions, such as braces and wiring, may be unseen when looking at the front of the
dashboard. Before drilling or cutting any holes in the dashboard, check the area behind the dashboard for obstructions. Do
not drill or cut when obstructions are present.
2. Select a location for the trim switch on the dashboard:
• without obstructions behind the dashboard

• within harness length limits
• that will position the trim switch with enough clearance between other components to install bezels, if equipped
3. If the dashboard is fiberglass, apply masking tape to the area that is to be drilled or cut to help prevent the dashboard from
cracking.
4. If the dashboard is vinyl covered, remove the vinyl from the area to be drilled or cut to keep the vinyl from tearing.
Trim Switch Installation
1. Drill a 54 mm (2‑1/8 in.) diameter hole through the dashboard at the selected location.
2. Install the gasket onto the trim switch.
3. Insert the trim switch assembly through the dash opening.
