Our Mentor’s Message

We are delighted to publish our first
annual report.

Our journey of service started 37
years ago. In 2005 India Now
Foundation gave it formal structure.

In 2016 Nivritti Foundation was
born giving impetus to the mission.

The common binding force for both
trusts is - YOU. Each of you who has
- contributed generously your time
and resources to advance our
purpose in a definitive manner.

Year 2017-18 promoted an
exceptional focus on volunteering
setting a stiff target of 4,250 man-
days (about 12 man years). We are
pleased to see that this was
comfortably achieved reaching a
total 4,500 man-days.

This is nobility in action!

This annual report, a first of its kind,
is to express our gratitude to YOU –
our volunteers, contributors and
patrons.

Enabling Nobility 4

BACKGROUND

Enabling Nobility 5

India Now Foundation was established
in 2005 with a mission of Creating Noble
Citizens.

The primary focus area has been

enabling nobility among deserving rural
children.

This has been done by:

✓ Delivery of Amazing Empowerment
Workshops;

✓ Providing about 1000 titles of

carefully curated books to libraries
of JNV’s; &

✓ Supporting Nivritti Gurukul.

The Foundation is funded by individual

contributions. Tata Motors became the
first patron from the Corporate world to
support the mission of INF as part of their

CSR projects.

The uniqueness of INF remains in it’s

ZERO indirect admin costs. Every rupee is
spent directly to the progress of the
mission. The contributors participate

both financially as well as offering time in
supporting INF’s cause. Honorary

Trustees and office bearers with no
payments.

It provides the perfect platform for the
yearning of professionals to give back to
the Society.

Enabling Nobility 6

Financial Highlights

Enabling Nobility 7

The strength and unique selling point of India Now Foundation (INF) has
been the concept of volunteer’s contributing not only money but also their

time so as to keep to minimum the operational costs. Typically for all the
empowerment workshops the volunteers who conduct the workshops bear
the cost of logistics such as travel to the venues and the foundation incurs
the cost of purchasing and delivering the books to the schools. The books
undergo a process of covering and packing to preserve the longevity for
library use, which again is carried out with volunteer support.

The Costs incurred to purchase and deliver books over the past 3 years:

Year No of Books Freight
Donors Purchased Expenses

Amount in Lakhs of Rupees

2015-16 30 24.9 4.5

2016-17 31 28.8 2.2

2017-18 104 60.8 6.8

The success of INF’s activities is reflected in the positive impact it has on
the stakeholders who have come in contact with INF. Our goal is to
maintain and improve upon the following…

Life changing Experience for students and seniors alike

Zero negative feedback including from seasoned principals

Enabling Nobility 16

Our Mission

Nivritti Gurukul is a unique initiative to develop Noble civil servants.

Nobility is built by teaching, demonstrating and practicing.

Teaching nobility: values education sessions every day

Demonstrating nobility: Volunteers come spending their own time and
money to do seva for children. All activities in the Gurukul are done by
volunteers

Practicing nobility: Children themselves are taught to give – see Durbal ki

Seva covered later

Deliver noble civil servants who will do “Desh Seva”

Economically underprivileged but academically well performing children are
selected from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV’s).

Nivritti Gurukul has been a great experience for both the children and the
volunteers. Children with aspirations but no capacity to pursue higher studies
due to financial and logistical constraints find Nivritti Gurukul as a great

opportunity to reinvent themselves.

The five-year program is designed as a residential distance learning
undergraduate degree program supplemented with training to appear for the
UPSC exams.

Partnerships

We live in an interdependent world where forging partnerships with like

minded organisations is a force multiplier.

During the year some new partnerships were created and some strengthened.

Principals

1. Partnership with JNV Principals

The workshops and book distributions were the commencement of a strong

partnership with many noble JNV Principals. These Principals continue to help
in getting the right children to Nivritti Gurukul.

We invited a selection of JNV Principals to Nivritti Gurukul and honoured them
for their contribution.

Enabling Nobility 25

Building on our successes to date we intend to scale up our activities
significantly.

Our children from Nivritti are being trained to do workshops and we

intend to roll out workshops conducted by them in JNV’s near their home
and also in other local government schools. This will be done when they
go on vacations.

Our children are encouraged and they have already started taking up
social impact projects near their village and also near the Gurukul. They
write about their experiences as part of the project submissions. These
projects will make them well rounded leaders of the community.

The current Nivritti Gurukul campus will reach capacity by the year
2020. Work has commenced on a new campus development with a
capacity of 600 children. Ten acres of land has been purchased and all
approvals are in place. Work is expected to commence on the new

campus no sooner rains recede in October 2018.

We are very excited with this new phase of our journey.
